now that i'm approaching a 10k word count, i'll be posting snippets from 'the glare of the morning light' chapter 2 later today! i'm still trying to pick one that isn't purely back-and-forth arguing or internal monologuing and makes sense without context, but it'll be up i promise

i'm shooting for around the 20k mark with this chapter, and like to post snippets halfway through and then again when i'm almost done. could be longer, though, because i have no clue how long it'll take me to execute what i want to here. 20k's the baseline

after so long struggling to even type anything, today was one of the better writing days i've had in a while, even though it isn't a particularly big number :) i've finally nailed down where i want this chapter going, and a solid 60% of it is just arguments, sorry guys. most of the rest that isn't arguments still isn't all that optimistic either. sorry again

i wound up deleting a big chunk of prior writing this afternoon because it just wasn't clicking (despite best efforts). thankfully, it's working the way i want it to now, but it means that the word count update looks a bit wonky when compared to last time. i need to step away rn, but will write more later tonight!

George can’t help but feel a strange sense of familiarity whenever he’s around Dream, even though he’s never heard of the guy’s existence until literal days ago. It’s like he’s known him all his life, and there’s a loud voice in his ear, telling him not to let him go any time soon, or ever. It saddens him a little, the thought that he could’ve had Dream in his life earlier, had he just done one little thing differently. He can’t help but feel like he missed out on so much. Missed out on him. Whatever bundle of emotions that rumble in his chest is overwhelming and bigger than he thinks, but there’s one thing he knows for sure: Dream was meant to be in his life, and he’s doing whatever it takes to keep him in it.

or: an AU where George never responded to Dream’s coding request on that one forum. Consequently, Dream pursues music instead of Minecraft and George becomes a streamer on his own.

They still end up finding each other, anyway.

Summary:

Desperate to escape a bad situation, George impulsively takes a last minute job serving as a fire lookout in the Montana wilderness. He's expecting nearly five months of complete solitude as he keeps watch for fires by day and tries to heal from his past by night. What he's not expecting is a chatty neighbor in another fire tower twenty miles away. Dream is an experienced ranger tasked with keeping an eye on the new guy, but as they talk day by day over the radio, getting to know and slowly trust one another, something new starts kindling beneath the surface. Will the spark between these two strangers die in the smoke, or will it turn into a full-blown fire? And what will happen when fire season is over and George has to go back to his normal life, full of troubles?
