Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse. It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search termsÂ
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable. As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
â
Google is so powerful that it âhidesâ other search systems from us. We just donât know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free

TDP Day?
I'm sure a lot of us are probably already playing tdp in the bg but what do we think of having a fandom-wide TDP Day in the first week of January where we try to get it up in the Netflix top ten again?
Thinking if we get a day we can boost it across platforms to get people on board

Aaravos pushed us to the brink. We were ready to sacrifice it all. Everything! You and me, Callum, Rayla... we almost gave up everything that we are. But because of them, the archdragons, we didn't have to. [...] It's up to us now, Zym.

Iâm honestly so fond of the idea that Zym could talk the whole time (s4 onwards) and was just shy/didnât want to/didnât feel ready to share like câmon, Zymâs cheeky, goofy ass little âyeah. this is what I sound like :Dâ is so endearingly in line with him having worked himself up to it like this is not the first time this kid has ever spoken, but it is him enjoying surprising his brothers with it and being cheeky about it. Thereâs also just something about the idea that Zubeia and Ibis knew he could talk if he wanted to but werenât pressuring him to do so if he wasnât feeling like it/wasnât ready/just wasnât ready to share it with the others that is just so precious to me

sometimes I sit back and reflect on how much passion and care Grian and his team put into the Life Series, especially as it's grown and progressed... the coding and design that went into Wild Cards, the cleverness and creativity of the Secret Tasks, all of the little animations and popups, even picking out specific game maps so that the players have access to a variety of biomes and building materials. on the Imp and Skizz podcast, they also discussed how well-crafted the cast of the Life Series is, and I totally agree - it's such a perfect group of people that work SO well together. you can tell that the series is being designed not just for the maximum enjoyment of the players, but also for the community. I see it in the little details like the lightning strikes for player's final deaths that started in Limited Life, and in bringing back beloved POVs like Jimmy, Mumbo, and Skizz's even after they've been eliminated... you can just tell that the Life Series is in good hands.
