How To Judge The Problems With Your Copier Or Printer Transfer Roller
Tumblr media
Transfer roller is a very important part on copiers or laser printers, it’s responsible to pull the toner from the toner to the paper, poor print quality may be caused by improper working of transfer roller, the symptoms include paper jamming, streaking, noise and odor emission. If you notice the symptoms below, just try to recover the good quality same as before.
 Paper Jamming
With time and use, the transfer roller on the copier or laser printer may be in incorrect position, try to remove it and replace it back to adjust correctly to ensure the paper can go trough the transfer roller normally again. If this can’t solve the problem, you probably need to replace a new roller.
 Paper With Streaking
After the printer working for some time, the printout paper may come out with streaking and black spot, it is possible that the roller is not clean and comes with residual toner, use a dry cloth to wipe it gently and don’t use liquid and chemical material to clean the dirt, because these material can damage the surface of the component.
 Noise
With long time use, the clips at two ends are worn and broken to cause the transfer roller to be fixed improperly, so the roller probably has rolling fiction with other components, to avoid further damage, remove the transfer roller from the printer, and replace it back correctly to the slot, and use new clips to lock it, if there is any damage or distortion on the roller, the transfer roller need to be replaced by a new one.
 Odor Emission
The reasons mentioned above probably cause that the transfer roller don’t interact with other components, this is why you can smell some strange odor from the printer, so stop the print work as soon as you notice this issue, and clean the roller and reposition it. If the issue can not be solved after print some test files, you need to replace it by a new one.

There's a lot of processes for this work, so today I'm going to show you how to disassemble the fuser assembly.
Tumblr media
Sometimes you still have some print quality issues though you replaced the toner, such as that the paper comes out with loosen toner or some flaws, that's part of the fuser assembly or the sleeve, so we need to know how solve the problem with the fusing unit, before we replace a new one, just need to remove the old one, but it's definitely not too easy to do it by yourself. Let's get started with a philips and a flat blade screwdriver, and a pair of nipper pliers also, turn off the power button, open the font cover plate to remove the toner cartridge inside, use the flat plate screwdriver to remove the cover plates at the right side and left side, and then pull out the paper tray. Now let's get to the back part of the machine, we have to take several screws off
to remove the back door plate, for removing the top plate and then anther group of screws and a wiring harness need to be removed to take off top plate. Get to the back part again to remove several wiring harnesses, some screws more need to be removed again, and unplug carefully some wires out of sockets, after pull out all the linkages with the fuser assembly, now let's take off the group of driving gears in there. after all these complicated processes, now we pull the fuser assembly right out and you could see the things inside the assembly, the fuser film sleeve, fuser rollers and so on, the fuser film sleeve is usually torn that cause the print quality. What Is Upper Fusser Roller For?
Upper fuser roller is also called as fuser roller, which is one of the laser printer parts to be used with fuser film sleeve that cover over it, and there is a piece of printer heating element set in such a roller to generate heat, when the paper pass through the roller, the heat is conducted by the fuser film sleeve to melt and fix the toner particle onto the paper. When the upper fuser roller working, such an action is also assisted by the lower pressure roller that is located under it to press the melted toner particle to attach tightly onto the paper.

Why Paper Is Hot While Your Laser Printer Prints It Out?
You can feel hot after the paper is printed out from your laser printer, as before that, the paper pass through the fuser unit, there is a pair of fuser rollers within the fuser assembly to apply heat and pressure to fuse the toner particles onto the paper fiber.
The toner is transferred from the drum to the paper and form text and images, but that is not the last printing process, as the toner particles are still loose and easy to take off from the paper, so that need to pass through the upper fuser roller to melt the powder and fix it on the paper, the upper fuser roller sometimes we call upper fuser roller has a piece of heating element to generate heat, and there is a lower pressure roller below to press and make it more tight.

How To Clean A Upper Fuser Roller
Inside the printer fuser assembly, there are two pieces of rollers, upper fuser roller or fuser roller, and lower fuser roller or pressure roller, the upper fuser roller is a high quality aluminium tube coated with teflon, with a heating element inside, sometimes, we can use a fuser film sleeve to instead of the upper fuser roller. The lower pressure roller is a soft rubber roller.
The best way to clean a fuser roller is to use isopropyl alcohol if you haven't a specific cleaning fluid, just don't use rubbing alcohol, it may contain ingredients that can leave a residue on the fuser surface, you can also use a very light coat of silicon oil and a non linty rag. When the rollers are clean, dry them with another cloth. You can fully disassemble the roller before clean it, but it could be done with minimal removal just so the roller could be turned. The surface of the fuser roller is made of a teflon film that is easily damaged, so use only light pressure when cleaning, and better not to use harsh chemicals like acetone or trichloroethane, pay attention when you clean a fuser film sleeve, as it's very fragile and easily demaged, insert the sleeve into a support, wipe away the old grease from the heating element and apply the new high temperature grease, if you don’t have the grease, remain the old grease.

How Is The Image Printed On The Paper
There are so many laser printer parts inside your printer, the toner cartridge has two main components, one is the drum and the another is hopper. The drum begins to turn around when the printer starts to run, its surface charges with negative electricity from a charge roller. The drum has a  layer of sensitive coating on the surface, it gets hit by laser beam and as it turns. As the laser radiates the drum line by line for million times per second, it releases the electricity to create more non-electricity spaces, until they finally form an same image as the document right on the drum, just outside the hopper, there's a roller that gets covered with toner particles as the drum turns past this roller, the toner has no choice since the toner carries a negative electricity to be attracted to the non-electricity spaces on the drum, at the same time, the toner is repulsed by the negative electricity that cover the rest of the drum, so the toner only sticks to the spaces hit by the laser, now the toner forms a same image of the document on the surface of the drum, furthermore, the printer is charging a piece of paper with positive electric charges, the rolling drum carries its toner image down onto the paper, and this is for pulling the toner off the drum to attach onto the page, now the image of that text is on paper.
The last process but not least, the paper need to pass through the fuser assembly, there’s a roller inside to heat up to 200 degrees Centigrade to melt the toner particles and fix onto the paper to finish a printed page.

How To Maintain Upper Fuser Roller
Upper fuser roller is made of seamless alum alloy tube, its thickness is between 1-3mm, and there is a piece of printer heating element set in such a roller to generate heat, the surface of roller is covered with the fluorine resin film, which is usually called as fuser film sleeve. When the paper pass and is jammed in the fuser assembly, just don't pull t out heavily, as such an action may damage the surface coating of the fuser roller, and the damaged parts will fail to fuse the toner particles on the paper. If the paper comes out with some spots and residual toner, it may be due to that the surface of roller is damaged or scratched. When cleaning the surface, just use some cotton with alcohol to wipe gently off the stain on it, and remember that not to use blade to scrape it.

Process Of Applying Grease in Fuser Film Sleeves
Fuser grease is made of silicone oil for lubrication, and it also has excellent performance at thermal conductivity to assist fuser film sleeve to conduct the fusing process. Just like other laser printer parts, we need to replace the grease with use and time, proper operation is very important to be careful when installing, otherwise your fuser film sleeve will be damaged and scrapped totally. Hope the following instruction can be of help to you.
Step 1. Detach the fuser unit and remove the used fuser film.
Step 2. Use alcohol to clean the surface of heating element.
Step 3. Use soft spatula to scoop up grease from the container, total applying amount is around 1 gram.
Step 4. Place the spatula at an angle on the surface, and wipe evenly the grease over the surface of heating element with forward and backward movement.
Step 5. Put the heating element into the fuser film sleeve, and the end of the film with ground ring should be in good contact with the surface of lower pressure roller or the conductive brush after installation.
Step 6. Turn the film sleeve by hands and feel if the turning is smooth.
Step 7. If everything is okay, re-install the fuser unit and make a test.

What's In The Printer Maintenance Kit?
In the past 10 years, so many printer users perform replacement of their printer parts to save money and time, so the laser printer parts manufacturers supply collections of necessary parts for users to do DIY maintenance on their printer, so this is reason why we call this set as printer maintenance kit.
The parts included in the printer maintenance kit are usually fuser assembly, pickup rollers, separation pads, transfer roller and so on.
-       Fuser Assembly: a component to be responsible to fuse and fix toner onto the paper.
-       Separation Pad: help the pickup rollers to tug a single sheet of paper and separate it from other.
-       Transfer Roller: an electrically charged roller to transfer toner from the drum to the paper.
-       Pickup Roller: also named feed roller, are used to pick up the paper from the paper tray and feed it to the printing parts.
Most of printers have a system that can inform you when it's time to maintain your printer, it will show on the screen and let you know which parts you should replace.

The Difference Between Fuser Film Sleeve And Fuser Roller
Fuser roller has one or two heating elements (hologen lamps) inside to generate heat and transfer to the toner to melt and bond on the paper.
Fuser film sleeve has a piece of ceramic bar to release heat and transfer via the fuser film sleeve to the toner.
Fuser roller features high power consumption, slow preheating, but has long lifespan. Conversely, fuser film sleeve features low power consumption, fast preheating but wear resistance not good as fuser roller.

Laser Printer Print Head Need To Be Cleaned Periodically
When your printer has been used for some time, it's print job will become not as good as new one, you need to clean the toner cartridge and other printer components periodically.
Turn off the power of printer and unplug the power cord for 1 hour, allow to cool down the heat in the printer before cleaning. Open your cover and remove the toner cartridge. Pull the toner cloth gently several times to activate the cloth. Toner cloths are designed to capture loose toner powder in the air. Wipe gently the toner cartridge and head thoroughly with the toner cloth. Many toner cartridges have a protective cover over the print head that also should be cleaned. Remove spilled toner inside and outside of the printer with the toner vacuum, taking care not to touch or break any exposed wires in the printer. Install the toner cartridge back and power the printer on to resume normal use of your printer.
