here are some basic gif etiquettes c:
look guys itās not math. all you have to do is just RESPECT THE CREATORāS WISHES. ITāS THEIR CONTENT!!!!! if the creator doesnāt want you to repost their work, donāt do it.Ā
letās put it in a term that youāll all understand. letās say the singer wrote a song and posted it for people to listen. then another person takes a snippet of that song, posted it without crediting them, then say itās their song. is that fair??? no. another way to think about it is fanart, the artist drew it, took hours or even days to finish it so that they can post. then someone else takes it and reposts it without their permission then act like itās their fanart. do you see how thatās not okay????
for those of you who donāt know whatās going on. a lot of twitter users are reposting tumblr gifs from tumblr content creators without permission or credit. if you are one of those people, please feel free to unfollow me because i do not allow reposting of my gifs and i will never support reposters.Ā
for those who want to support tumblr content creators, here are some things you can do:
tell the tumblr content creator via ask or dm them with the link to the tweet
reply under the tweet with the link to the original tumblr post and tell the twitter user that the creator does NOT allow reposts of their work and ask them to delete it. the more replies about that, the more likely they will delete their reposts.
for those who make content, these are some things that you can do to help protect your gifs:
disable right clicking on your desktop theme so that they canāt save it on their laptops/pcsĀ (click on the link there)
disable dragging of images on desktop theme so that they cannot open a new tab to right click and saveĀ (click on the link there)
watermark your gifs (unfortunately it has to come to this)
if you really really really want to make sure that people donāt repost, putĀ ādo NOT repost my gifsā orĀ ā repostĀ š«ā in the captions
for those who canāt make their own content but still want to post something:
ask for permission. if the creator saysĀ ānoā then do NOT do repost. respect their work and decision. itās not like itās going to end you if you donāt repost someone elseās work.Ā
if the person is kind enough to allow you to repost, CREDIT them. you can do that by linking their twitter, tumblr, and ESPECIALLY their original post.
make your own content. if you donāt know how, there are a ton of tutorials. hereās a list of resource to help you get started.Ā
it takes hours to finish a GOOD gifset so please donāt just go around reposting other peopleās work. thank you~

How do you colour your captions like that? Its really pretty!!
You mean the gradients? Itās a bit of a html trick ~
I personally use this online tool to make it easy. Normally youād have to pick the Hex Code for every color and set it manually but with this tool you only have to enter your text and pick the start and end color of your gradient and it makes the html code for you!Ā
More under the cut bc the pictures make this post a bit lengthy..
It looks a bit complicated but you only need this small interface:
Put your own text in the upper box and choose your start and end color. Then click run! It gives you a html code like this:
Copy all of it! Then open up your tumblr post and click on the settings on top of the post. For the text editor, choose HTML instead of the regular Rich Text option. Otherwise you canāt use the html code you just made!
Then paste your code into the text box, so it looks like this:
You can use preview to check if it looks ok, if you want to make adjustments, just go back to HTML mode (I usually make my captions bold etc). If you like it, it means youāre done! Just click Publish and your post looks something like this!
It looks like a lot of steps but itās actually rlly quick!!
