âsuffering feels religious if you do it rightâ no shut up it doesnât. my friends laughing in the kitchen while i make dinner feels religious. the sun on my face after a long winter feels religious.
i hate when i send someone a meme in another language and they're like "uhm... translate? đ" fucker i sent you a meme where 90% of the words have an english cognate and/or you don't need to know what they're saying to find it funny. can you at least TRY
Kind of hilarious to me how poorly the title "Mob Psycho 100" localized to English-speaking areas. To someone whose first language is English, it scans as:
Mob (Yakuza, Mafia)
Psycho (violent person with "crazy" behaviors)
Thus: a particularly violent member of organized crime.
But in Japanese it scans as:
Mob (background characters in crowd scenes in manga or anime)
Psycho (short for psychic)
Thus: a psychic who looks/acts like someone you'd never pick out of a crowd scene in a comic.
FWIW, "mauve" was one of the coal-tar dyes developed in the mid-19th century that made eye-wateringly bright clothing fashionable for a few decades.
It was an eye-popping magenta purple
HOWEVER, like most aniline dyes, it faded badly, to a washed-out blue-grey ...
...which was the color ignorant youngsters in the 1920s associated with âmauveâ.
(This dress is labeled "mauve" as it is the color the above becomes after fading).
They colored their vision of the past with washed-out pastels that were NOTHING like the eye-popping electric shades the mid-Victorians loved. This 1926 fashion history book by Paul di Giafferi paints a hugely distorted, I would say dishonest picture of the past.
Ever since then this faded bluish lavender and not the original electric eye-watering hot pink-purple is the color associated with the word âmauveâ.
The only way I will EVER be a member of the 5 AM writerâs club is if I started writing the night before and lost track of time.
I don't know what tenth circle of hell my YouTube algorithm fell into, but I really wish it would stop showing me videos of 5 a.m. morning writing routines.
i love those "americans only know burger" posts cus its true we literally have a word for when something is insignificant or something without value and yeah. its "nothingburger". because whats more worthless than nothing burger....
Youâve got to forgive yourself for being traumatized and needing to learn how to function again.Â
Recovery isnât always nightmares and depression, itâs forgetting to eat, being scared of what others might see as completely normal things, itâs getting random panic attacks, not knowing how to take care of yourself, not knowing how to live like an adult, even if youâre twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, of feeling like youâre failing to function in a world where everyone seems to have their shit together.Â
If you need help, ask for it. Go to forums and ask for advice. Take advantage of community resources. Buy pre-sliced veggies and fruits, eat instant meals if you canât cook for yourself today. Hire someone. Ask a neighbor for a favor. Buy any item you think might make life easier, even if you feel like you arenât âdisabledâ enough to have it.Â
Some of the depression posts (ie open your windows, take a shower, go outside, call a friend) are really helpful but theyâre not always enough. Iâve found advice for spoonies, people with chronic pain or other disabilities have the best tips because they know what itâs like to be bedridden, out of energy, stuck in a brain fog.Â
You may never return back to the energy you had when you were younger and you might always need to use crutches to help you through life. Itâs the same with medication.Â
Trauma is a real thing that happens to you, it physically alters your brain and itâs alright to have lasting scars.Â
Youâre not broken, your life is not over and you can still be happy.Â
To be fair, you're in an area currently undergoing a unique dialect change. This is an old article, but I think a good one: https://slate.com/human-interest/2012/08/northern-cities-vowel-shift-how-americans-in-the-great-lakes-region-are-revolutionizing-english.html
Just checking....
We all pronounce Miette like My-TAY in our heads, right?
So, there's a lot of USians around who are very clearly fucking fed up with their political choices this election cycle, and planning to sit it out.
And I get it! What's the point of voting if there's no one to vote for?
The thing is, I'm Australian. In Australia, voting is compulsory. We don't get to sit out our elections, and I'll be real honest with you - we don't exactly get better choices than you lot. So how do you vote if there's no one to vote for? You find someone to vote against. And there's always someone to vote against.
Now, we have the pleasure of preferential voting in Australia - We get to rank every candidate from 1 to X, and I'll tell you, there's something so cathartic about putting the biggest bastard of the lot at the very bottom of your preferences. I understand that USians don't get that option - you get to mark one person, and that's it.
That means that you get one shot, so aim it at the biggest bastard of the lot. The candidate you most utterly detest. Put your vote in the worst possible place for them. Don't even think about who that vote's going towards, that's not the point. Remember, every vote is a vote against someone. Make sure you fuck up that someone's election day!
