The Final Exam
First of all, let me just say that I have enjoyed this class so much and I love all of these virtual sketchbook assignments that we have had to do, and I was even more excited when I found out I could come up with my own piece of art for the final entry. If I’m being honest, I pondered what to do for awhile, but one day while I was at work it hit me, I could draw Unitato! Now you may be asking to yourself, what the heck is a Unitato?! Well you see, when I was in elementary school one of my art assignments was to create my own character and show him in different movements of art. And thus, Unitato was born. From here on out, when my art teachers would ask my to create a character for an assignment, Unitato would be used.
Tumblr media
This was my first creation of Unitato.
Tumblr media
This is a more recent piece of art that I did that included Unitato.
As you can see, Unitato is a conscious and alive potato, with a horn! He’s not the smartest, but he is the kindest and he loves to make everyone happy.
For this project, I decided to create Unitato preparing for Christmas! I had a lot of fun laying out the art and actually creating my idea! It turned out exactly how I wanted it to! :)
Tumblr media
This was after I planed out everything using pencil.
Tumblr media
This was after I outlined everything.
Tumblr media
And finally, this was after I colored everything.
In my opinion, Unitato has never looked better, especially with that Christmas sweater on! Finally, I decided that this piece should be called “Unitato Decks the Halls”. This project was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed it! I hope everyone has a Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

Virtual Sketchbook Four
1. Writing, Thinking, and Looking Critically
Jackson Pollock was a revolutionary artist during the 20th century. He first studied under the realism artist Thomas Hart Benton. However, upon Benton moving away Pollock decided to study more abstract pieces of work. It was from here, he decided to take his own take on abstract art. For many years, Pollock struggled with alcoholism and it wasn’t until he met his wife did he stop his vice. Like anyone who stops a bad habit, your feelings can run wild. They were overwhelming him and he felt the best way to express himself was through his art. It was during this time that he had his “Golden Years” of art. He would paint from how he felt on the inside. So while the viewer may feel his work his “all over the place”, Pollock knew exactly what was going on. He painted with his feelings.
2. Art Project
Tumblr media
I call this piece “The Show”. I created this from the memories and happiness I felt when I went to my Harry Styles concert. I have loved Harry since he was in One Direction, and seeing him live out a new part of his career on his first solo world tour was on of my proudest moments.

Virtual Sketchbook Two
1. Journaling
Unity: wholeness or completeness
Variety: incompleteness, not whole
Tumblr media
In the painting “Olive Trees” by Vincent van Gogh there is unity because of the trees, the mountains, and the skies.
Balance: having symmetry or asymmetry, reaching equilibrium
Tumblr media
There is symmetrical balance in this painting of “The School of Athens” by Raphael
Emphasis: the focal point of the work
Subordination: areas of a work that aren’t what the artist wants the viewer to focus on
Tumblr media
In the painting “Sunflower” by Vincent van Gogh there is emphasis on the sunflowers.
Directional forces: the way in which a piece of art is supposed to be viewed
Tumblr media
In the painting “La Belle Jardinière” by Raphael” the directional force is in the shape of a triangle.
Repetition: when a theme or object is done over and over again
Rhythm: the repeating of dominant and subordinate themes in order
Tumblr media
There is repetition and rhythm in “Sky and Water I” by Mc Escher.
Scale: is the relationship of size to another thing
Proportion: the relationship of size to a whole thing
Tumblr media
There is a proportional relationship between the people, the tables, the chairs, and the buildings in “Café Terrace at Night” by Vincent van Gogh.
2. Writing and Looking
Tumblr media
“I saw the Figure 5 in Gold” by Charles Demuth, Revel Chapter 4
Ingredients: repetition, warm colors, gray tones, text, asymmetrical balance, and unity
3. Connecting Art To Your World
Color is one of the main things that helps to influence how we feel. Color is everywhere we look. Color influences me in my room. My room is a dark blue, almost purple color. As it can be known, blue helps to bring calmness into people. This color helps me to feel calm and relaxed when I am working on homework. It also helps me to unwind after along day.
4. Art Project
Tumblr media
This comic shows a young-adult girl getting really excited about going “home” to Walt Disney World. I relate to this because as I get older the more excited i get to go to Disney. It is one of the places in the world that makes me happiest.
5. Photo/Design
Tumblr media
This picture shows a Black Lives Matter protest. This is a movement that is aiming to end police brutality and acts of violence against African Americans. This picture helps to visually represent the story to the viewer because it shows many different people gathering in hopes of making a change of things. They are pushing to cause changes in light of recent deaths of African Americans at the hands of police.
Tumblr media
This picture shows the singing of the Peace Treaty between the UAE and Israel. This is a major accomplishment to help fighting to stop in the Middle East.

1.Writing and Research:
Titian 1538 Venus of Urbino. Oil on canvas; 47" x 65".
A little known fact about me is that I was born in a Pennsylvania hospital, which was founded by Benjamin Franklin.
1.)This painting was originally made as a gift to the Duke of Urbino Guidobaldo II Della Rovere as a gift for his wife.
2.)The woman in the painting is Venus, the goddess of love.
3.)The sleeping dog at the end of the bed is thought to represent loyalty and faithfulness.
4.)Titian was Italian.
5.)Titian was taught by Sebastiano Zuccatov and Giovanni Bellini.
When I first looked at this painting I was in awe. The painting is very beautiful and I could tell almost instantly that there was a lot of symbolism throughout the piece. I love how all of the colors have a more cool tone to them. After learning more about the piece I had more of an admiration for the work. I now see that there is a lot more symbolism throughout the work than I originally saw.
2.Art and Writing:
Tumblr media
This piece of art was made using colored pencils. It is used as a reminder of my Great Uncle. He was very talented and did many pieces of work. I think it’s is very beautiful. The birds and the tree seem extremely realistic. We have many more of his pieces throughout my house tying in with the “bird” theme.
3.Writing a Self Portrait:
I am 17 years old female. While I was born in Philadelphia, I have lived in Florida since I was three. I am white. For fun I enjoy hanging out with friends and going to the beach or the pool. I am not a member of any organized groups. I work as a cashier at Publix. The thing that makes me unique is my care for everyone. I always like to make sure everyone is happy and satisfied with what is going on in the moment.
