Project Evaluation
This project was image manipulation. I struggled a lot at the start of this project. I had no inspiration for anything original, as we were going on I found various artists such as Dan Mountford and the images from Vault 49 which helps boost my brain along.
What I have enjoyed most about this project is creating something 100% original. No matter who the model is, or the items you're using in the image.. it is always different. If you use the same style but a different person, it is still 100% different. Every ones faces are completely different, and that is why I used people.
The techniques I have used most in this project are quick mask tool and layer blending modes. I have used them on 95% of the images I have created. I find that they work best for me and they work well with the images I am producing. While creating new images how ever, I have experimented with filters, and other various tools to create weird and wonderful things.
I am very pleased with the work I have produced, and I 100% want to continue working on images like these. I want to keep practicing and get better and achieve more wonderful, interesting images.
If I were to learn any new skills, it would be to learn how to have a steady hand, and to have more patience with Photoshop.
If I were to do this project again, I would defiantly spend more time on each image in Photoshop. I would also shoot a LOT more random objects, patterns and textures.

Here I decided to take two images of Shaunee dancing. One where she is smiling, and one where her face is creased as she hurt herself. To me this shows how dedicated some people are to things, even when they hurt themselves. I decided to use the texture of a tree I had previously taken an image of, and quick mask and layer blend it on to her skin. I made the cracks slightly fainter on the side she looks happy, and darker on the side where she seems more broken about what she loves doing. Deep meaning, but /i really liked the way it turned out.

Here I took an image of Joel and an image of a tree as a graveyard and merged them together, changing the opacity and the layer blending mode. I quick masked the tree just into his face, any area there was skin. I quick mask selected his eyes and using the brightness setting, I made them brighter, more vibrant and creepy like. After that I went into the filters and added noise to give it the strange and scary effect.

Here I decided to use the Polygonal selection tool to move certain parts of the models face. After moving things I around I changed the image to black and white for a more dramatic look and fiddled around with the contrast, levels and curves.

Here are the images I took in the studio, to finalize my portrait examples for the project. I used high key and low key.

Here is the final image after I used the unsharp mask on it. This is my own digitally done double exposure. Both of the images I took myself.

Here I decided to do a double exposure image. I used two separate photographs that I had taken before and applied them to my canvas. I then adjusted the opacity of one of the layers and then adjusted the contrast and colours (taken the colour out of the image of the tree). I brought through some of the background even more in certain areas using quick mask. I then flattened the image before using the unsharp mask to create the final image.

Here are the two images, the first one is by Dan Mountford, and the second is my rendition of that image.

Here I recreated an image done by Dan Mountford, where he places cigarette butts inside the side on portrait. Here I used layers, quick mask and layer blending tools. Both images used are from google.
