Social Identity
Barker defines social identity as 'the expectations and opinions others have of us’ (Barker, 2012). Our social identity is influenced by the world that pre-exists us and with language, cultural practices, history, normative rights, obligations and sanctions within this world. Our social identity is formed through how we conduct ourselves around others, our values and how others view us. The song ‘Fixer Upper’ from the movie Frozen explores the social identity of the character Kristoff through various other troll characters who list a variety of things which he is known for in his community and the opinions the trolls have of him.

Fractured Identity
Fractured identity can be defined as having many parts to one’s personality, many sources of ideals, many drivers of action. (Mcleod 2015) It can be said ‘within us are contradicting identities, pulling in different directions, so that our identifications are continually being shifted about’ (Barker, 2012). This idea can be explored in the song “Reflection” from the movie Mulan where Mulan is experiencing a fractured identity of who she believes she is verus who she thinks she should be for her family (the perfect daughter) and for the society she lives in (the perfect bride).

Creative Identity
Weeks defines identity as being about sameness and difference, about the personal and the social, (Barker, 2012) ‘about what you have in common with some people and what differentiates you from others’ (Weeks,1990;89). From this, creative identity can be defined as the certain sameness and differences you express in your art when compared to others and what sets you apart. In the song ‘Real in Rio’ from the movie Rio, we can see all the characters are similar as they are all birds and contributing to this one song however the various species make their own unique sound to add to the song. This differentiates them from the others and gives them their own creative identity.

Authenticity
Authenticity can be defined as an attempt to live ones life according to the needs of ones inner being, rather than the demands of society or ones early conditioning. The song ‘Gaston’ from the movie Beauty and the Beast explores the various individual features unique to the character Gaston, showing his individuality and authenticity. ‘There’s no man in town as admired as you... For there’s no man in town half as manly... No one’s been like Gaston’, this uniqueness is backed up with unique qualities and experiences listed in the song such as Gaston's slickness, quickness, physical appearance, fighting ability etc.

Creative Influence
Creativity is heavily influenced by everything around a creator. Therefore creativity is influenced by people, places and experiences of an individual creators life which is then expressed in ones art or inspires the creator in some type of creative way. This can be explored in the song “Can’t Stop Singing” from the movie Teen Beach as the characters have been transported into a world where the only form of communication is in song and therefore the characters are influenced to express their frustration through the creative form of song.

Sensory Knowledge
Sensory knowledge is the ability to use our five senses to tell us about the world outside our bodies. By using our senses we are able to recognise details such as colour, sounds and textures of the world at large (Mcleod, 2015). This idea is explored in the song ‘When Will My Life Begin (Reprise 2)’ from the movie Tangled as the character Rapunzel explores grass, dirt and the summer breeze for the first time. ‘Just smell the grass! The dirt! Just like I dreamed they’d be! Just feel that summer breeze - the way it's calling me’ these lyrics show how sensory knowledge can extend past the senses and help connect an individual to the world at large.

Overdetermination
Overdetermination is where the unconscious ‘takes the accidental and trivial and turns it into the significant, dramatic, even tragic’. ‘When we talk about overdetermination, we are seeing the most intense psychological energies invested in the smallest behavioural space’ (Mansfield, N. 2000). This idea can be seen in the song ‘Friend Like Me’ from the movie Aladdin as it opens with the phrase “Master, I don't think you quite realise what you’ve got here’ showing how accidental and trivial it was for Aladdin to free the genie without realising what significant and dramatic things would come of it.

Unconscious
When considering the Freudian theory, the unconscious can be seen as the part of the mind containing ‘all sorts of significant and disturbing material which we need to keep out of awareness because they are too threatening to acknowledge fully...it is where wishes and impulses are kept at bay’ (Mcleod, 2015). The song ‘The Place Where Lost Things Go’ from the movie Mary Poppins Returns explores this idea of an unreachable place within oneself. ‘Memories you’ve shed, Gone for good you feared, They’re all around you still, Though they’ve disappeared...Hiding in the place’.

Essentialism
‘The western search for identity is premised on the idea that there is such a ‘thing’ to be found.’ (Barker, C. 2012). Essentialism is based on the view that every person has a set of attributes or characteristics that are necessary to make up who they are/their identity. In the song ‘I am Moana (Song of the Ancestors’ from the movie Moana, the character Moana explores this idea of finding her identity as she begins with the question ‘Who am I?’. She then considers her journey, values and achievements before ending this journey of identity with the statement ‘I am Moana’.

Subjectivity
Subjectivity is ‘the condition of being a person and the process by which we become a person; that is, how we are constituted as cultural subjects and how we experience ourselves’ (Barker 2012, p220). This idea can be seen in the song ‘Your Welcome’ by Dwayne Johnson in the movie Moana as his character explains various aspects of his personality and the experiences that have made him the demigod he is today. After explaining various experiences he retorts ‘Ha, I guess it's just my way of being me’ showing this is how he experiences himself.
