So you lost your arm… and your brother… he lost his entire body… i see… it all makes sense… you fools committed the ultimate taboo! you attempted human transmutation, didn’t you?! alchemy’s one and only unforgivable sin!

riza “refusing” to die in the final arc because she’d been ordered not to will never cease to completely cut me to pieces.
aside from the obvious sentiment behind refusing to abandon roy in his hour of need, and doing everything in her power to stay alive so he wouldn’t have to commit human transmutation, there’s just such a powerful tone behind the way she phrased it. “i won’t die, i’ve been ordered not to die”, sounds completely ridiculous to anyone who doesn’t know the extent of her and roy’s past together, right? so much to the point that the gold-toothed doctor wasted his precious time mocking her over how illogical that statement was.
but to roy, it conveyed exactly what it needed to, and so much more.
he got that she was honoring her one and only oath to him, even when that meant doing the impossible.
he got that she wasn’t going to give up without one hell of a fight, and at this point, he knows what she’s capable of. he knows what that means, coming from her.
he got that their mission was still the most important thing in the world to her, even after watching him be consumed by such violent, senseless vengeance that she was nearly forced into shooting him in the back, thus abandoning everything they’d spent the last decade working so hard for.
he got that after all of that, after everything they’d been through, his words still meant something to her, and she would honor them with a fortitude that transcended life and death.
if riza says she isn’t dying because roy previously ordered her not to, she isn’t dying. not now, not today, not anytime soon.

Water from Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean. Scooped out of the ride in summer of 2010. The bottle was all the way full, and it now almost halfway gone. As of today, it still smells.

Royai Week, Day 4: “Promise”
This is a collaborative piece between me and @capthawkeye . She is just the best! Art by me and the amaaaaazing fic by her!
Day 4 of Royai Week: Promise Rated: K || Words: 868
It’s a quiet mid-morning in Central. The day is vibrant and a slight breeze ruffles the grayed bangs away from her face. She recalls several days like today: the calm deception of the Promised Day or perhaps a proud, short day such as the last Fuhrer’s inauguration. The memories remind her how much has changed since then.
The saying goes: Time leaves nothing unaltered.
Aches settle in her bones and her hands now tremble. She uses a curved cane to bolster her steps and her muscles no longer respond with youthful vigor. The Hawk’s Eye precision blurs with passage of time. The years of building up strength dwindles with each passing day, but she carries the weight of their past all the same.
An old woman walks in her shoes now, past her golden years. She blends into the crowd seamlessly, an elder enjoying her routine stroll. A bittersweet smile sneaks onto her lips; for years now, her walks across the park are lonelier and all she cares to do is reminisce.
