This past week our group met with the H.A.R.T.S. Transit Managers of Harnett County. Barry and Larry informed us of many transportation services offered by Harnett County. They explained to us some of the transportation rules, guidelines, limitations and difficulties. We asked questions regarding the elderly population in Harnett County and evaluated how their particular transportation needs were being met through Harnett County’s transportation system. The meeting was very informative. We also worked on our presentation for the Healthy Harnett Coalition event.

This week Team Seasoned is working on analyzing our survey results and comparing them to the 2016 Harnett County Community Health Assessment so that we can be prepared to present our results to at the Healthy Harnett Coalition. We have also been working on our practicum video using iMovie. So far everything has been going smoothly, but we still have a lot left to do! We are excited to present our findings soon!

This past week Team Seasoned worked on a letter to the legislators and the advocacy campaign about the Meals on Wheels program at the Harnett County Health Department. Listed above are some of the points we made in the letter. We wanted to express that the meals for the seniors are more than just a meal. These senior citizens look forward to getting these meals because they also get to spend time with the individuals who bring the meals to them, and sometimes that is the only social life they receive within the day. This week we also scheduled our Medicare open enrollment counseling shadow appointments. I shadowed one Medicare appointment this week with LeeAnn at the HCHD, and next week I will shadow another appointment with Vicky. Pretty soon our group will start working on interpreting and analyzing our survey data, creating our video, presentation, etc.

Yesterday, our team held our listening session at the Dunn Enrichment Senior Center. When I first arrived at the senior center, I noticed two women putting together these care packages with wash cloths, soap, and other hygiene products for the hurricane victims across the world. We had a great turn out at our listening session. I am looking forward to sharing more about the listening session in my next Macro post. #teamseasoned

This past week our group finished up our Elderly Community Health Surveys. Each group member completed 30+ surveys and entered them into Survey Monkey for further data analysis. During our meeting at the HCHD, we planned out what we are going to discuss at our Listening Session at the Dunn Senior Center on Tuesday October 10th.

This week Team Seasoned went to Shaniqua’s church, Mt. Pisgah Free Will Baptist in Erwin, NC. We were able to survey some of the senior citizens in her church before their Bible study on Wednesday night. I really enjoyed this experience. All of the people there were super friendly and interested in taking our survey. I was able to complete 6 surveys within an hour! :)

This week I went to the Harnett County Health Department’s Caregivers Summit meeting and listened to a powerpoint presentation on Opioid addictions/problems in Harnett County. Then the senior citizens at the meeting were able to eat lunch, get their flu shot, and participate in our Community Health Survey. The sweet lady pictured above with me was so kind to let me take a picture with her after she completed the survey. The meeting went well and I met several wonderful individuals. #teamseasoned

This picture was taken at the Coats Senior Center, I forgot to include it in last week’s post, but I wanted to make sure I posted it. These senior citizens were enjoying their lunch before they completed our Harnett County Elderly Community Health Survey. This week I will be interviewing some elderly individuals at the Harnett County Health Department Caregiver Summit Event on Thursday September 21st. I hope I will be able to get more than 7 surveys completed this week but it depends on how many people are there. Im looking forward to it!

This past week we did not have a meeting at the HCHD due to the IPE event. However, our group was still active in our efforts to get as many surveys done as possible within the community. Jasmin and I went to the Coats Senior Center and met so many precious senior citizens. We completed around 7 surveys a piece. It was a successful meeting. Then I spent some time submitting the survey data into survey monkey because we did the surveys on paper originally since we did not have access to the Internet at the senior center.

At today’s Team Seasoned meeting with HCHD we met with several HCHD employees to discuss dates and times of events within Harnett County for the month of September and October. Our team is now prepared for several events within the next few weeks. We can’t wait to get out and meet some elderly individuals & get to know their health needs! Our survey is complete and ready! Pictured above are flyers that the HCHD gave us for the upcoming events.

At our Team Aging meeting today, my team members, Mrs. Mary Jane, and I reviewed our elderly health assessment survey questions and compared them to last year’s survey questions. We decided to throw out some questions and keep others depending on how relevant we felt the questions would be. We are looking forward to finishing our survey & going out into the community to survey some of Harnett County’s precious elderly individuals. :)

This week “Team Aging” became “Team Seasoned” and was tasked with creating survey questions to assess the elderly in Harnett County. We examined the survey used to complete the Harnett County Health Assessment (CHA) last year, as well as other survey questions used by other researchers in the past to create our questions. We will collaborate next week with the HCHD Dept of Aging to ensure our survey will provide insight to elderly-specific issues that are relevant to them.

Today, at our group practicum meeting at the Aging Department with Harnett County Health Department we discussed the Community Health Survey and questions we plan to include in our surveys with the elderly within the community. Our group also decided on a new group name, “Team Seasoned” :) Ask us how we came up with that name! ;)
