I have chosen this engaging multimodal, TedxTeen, presentation about sustainable living, as it displays how the spoken word (linguistic), expression (audio) and gesture (gestural) can portray a powerful message.
I would use the presentation in the upper level as a mentor text in the cross-curricular unit, sustainability. The presentation will start a discussion about the similarities and differences shown between Lauren’s experience and their own. This will encourage students to look into sustainable websites and investigate ways we can lead a sustainable life within the classroom or community. This investigation could lead into students writing an exposition or persuasive report to their principal or local leader on how to incorporate more sustainable practices within the school or community to encourage a sustainable future.

Literacy References
Two literacy references I have been exposed to this semester is the Literacy Teaching Toolkit and TeachStarter.
We were introduced to the Literacy Teaching Toolkit in last weeks seminar. It has some strategies on how to improve students reading, writing, speaking and listening. I am looking forward to looking further into this resource in years to come.

On placement I was introduced to TeachStarter. This is a great resource for activities, lesson and unit ideas.

Reading Kids Bookshop
The Reading Kids Bookshop, based in Carlton, is a fantastic bookshop which specialises in children’s literature.
They also run weekly story time for young children. Great way to motivate children to engage in reading.

This is a great poster to remind all students of the writing process.
Found the poster on the Excelsior Online Writing Lab website.

Put Me in the Zoo
Tumblr media
Put Me in the Zoo was one of my childhood favourites. It was humourous and silly. I enjoyed how imaginative and creative it was... My parents read to me every night. Back then I did not appreciate the time and effort they spent with me. When I was little, I loved reading, however, in my later years, not so much. This was due not finding a genre I enjoyed. I want to instill a love of reading to my future students and to assist them into finding genres they enjoy.
