One of my favorite subtle allusions to Lucy and Cooper's relationship is how she embodies everything he once loved and valued. Before the war, Cooper Howard valued justice and moral responsibility, though I think it made him naïve when faced with the depth of Barb and Vault Tec's corruption, because he wanted to believe the best and was blinded by his love. I imagine Barb's ultimate deception and betrayal scarred him and clearly left him with a deep distrust of people.

But, in walks Lucy MacLean, who actually does the right thing and lives up to her word... I think his line to Barb in this scene is foreshadowing how he will come to feel about Lucy as he begins to reconnect with who he used to be, also thanks to Lucy.

And I think he's going to fall desperately in love with her, and all of her do-gooder, hero, golden rule bullsh't.
