if there's one thing the breeding kink discourse taught me, it is that most of you aren't weird enough to handle solas. i'm taking him off your hands. solas dragon age is my character now and i decide that he's a freak. i decide that he's a slut and a freak and that he is capable of doing bad shit with bad intentions.

solas did drag a low approval inquisitor to the eluvian by the arm and shut it off to dismember them most traumatically. he did that shit and he was swinging his hips as he did so.

solas will sometimes bite into something particularly crunchy and think fondly of times he was in his dread wolf form eating animals bones and all while they were still alive. he might even have a lil smile about it.

solas is of the persuasion that everyone around him is inferior to him, that the lives of everyone who survived his error hold so little value that he's willing to sacrifice countless of them. he has a prejudiced and highly racist remark for every inquisitor be they elven, qunari, human, or dwarven. solas is a cunt.

and yeah, this is the same cunt who protected a random wanderer who fell asleep between the paws of his statue. yup the very same as the one who goes "that was a kind thing you did" with the softest voice in the world if his companion goes out of their way to spread some stranger's ashes where they would have wanted. same dude as the one who beelines to offer his aid to hurt refugees at the crossroads in da:i. and yes it's the same freak who loves dancing and gossip and tiny cakes and painting and who calms cole down from a panic attack. he is all of those things at once.

but give me warlord!solas. give me the solas who followed a man for twelve years to drive him to madness with laughter. give me the solas who carves vallaslin into the faces of his foes when he kills them. show me the solas who faced mythal for the first time after betraying and rebelling against her. the solas who saw the first dwarves crawl from the titans and perceived them as being beneath him, as being the severed arm of a once mighty hero, lying in a pool of blood, undirected, whatever skill at arms it had gone forever? zoom in. enhance. rotate. this solas is just as true as the caring, wise, sad solas.

i'm not saying he's evil, i'm just saying that he's not a good man. he isn't. treating him as one and excusing his failures and crimes as exclusively poorly executed but well-intended mauls him. he's such a complex, multidimensional character and i wish people would stop woobifying and sanitising him because it is such a waste!!!!! it's such a waste!!!!! let him be freaky!!!!!

I think it has to do with evolving in a veiled world. Solas says in dai that lyrium is the source of all magic other than that which comes from the fade. Spirits are manifestations of magic/the fade, and if every modern elf can trace back their lineage to a spirit, I’d imagine evolving in a veiled world would change how lyrium affects them vs the first fleshed elves.

Solas also talks about Seeker/templar capabilities in that they negate magic by “reinforcing reality” or something along those lines. So there might be a dichotomy between magic from the earth/lyrium (being “realer”) and magic from the fade (being less tangible and more incorporeal). Which might be why dwarves can’t dream (which happens in the fade) and the couple of dwarves who can do what can be considered magic comes from titans/the earth.

Modern elves are closer to the earth than the fade compared to the first elves, but are not as close to the earth compared to the dwarves which may be a reason why they have different resistance to lyrium.

According to the art book, solas is able to tranquillize people by just touching their forehead (presumably with a spell) as that’s how he tranquilizes ghilan’nain and himself. In modern Thedas, tranquility is created with a lyrium brand touching the victim’s head. Is he able to do it without lyrium because he himself is kinda sorta made of lyrium? Are blood-born elves not able to do this? Is this a spirit-born and/or evanuris only ability? But most importantly, could he do this during inquisition times or only after killing flemeth?

Something I've been thinking about is how Elgar'nan tolerated Solas for so long despite his vengeful nature. I mean, "Elgar'nan" translates to Spirit of Vengeance. And he was Mythal's husband and the king of the Evanuris. And Solas was just this dude his wife brought home one day, who was constantly pining for her and shitting on his plans for world domination. I can't imagine the amount of rage Elgar'nan had to suppress on a daily basis just to get through dinner.

Like, legit imagine if your S/O brought some random home and was like, "this person is going to be my advisor from now on and they are living with us forever." AND THEN this random turns out to be in love with your S/O AND they absolutely hate you and they do everything they can to fuck up any plans you make. At the same time, your S/O is complaining to you about how stubborn and unruly this random is, but they won't let you kick them out and they won't stop taking advice from them and they keep telling you to tone your rage down.

Like, ffs. Props to Elgar'nan for having god-tier coping skills underneath all that seething rage.
