god, where’s his red pen? kaz shuffled the papers spewed on top of his desk, brows furrowed for a short moment before glancing towards the redhead, “hm? oh–freya?” a natural smile found its way to his lips as he spoke her name, turning his full body towards laurel, “yeah–no, yeah, she’s the one who suggested i go, actually. she thinks it’ll be good to…get away, from rockport, y’know? we’re actually, uh, probably going to have it when i get back? nothing’s set in stone…but, we’re hoping.” he shrugged nonchalantly, rubbing the back of his neck. the poor man was…completely oblivious to her attempts to sound not jealous. because there was no reason to be jealous in the first place…right?

as he was gathering up an explanation for her query, she breathed in hard to calm herself and not think about his impending marriage. she definitely had no right to pry and she was supposed to be supportive to her best friend. ‘ really now? ’ she replied, an eyebrow up as she smiled. she tried to be genuine in regards to wishing kaz happy. ‘ the trust in your relationship, wow. ’ she commented, looking down, thinking about all the relationships that were ruined because of distance. ‘ the distance doesn’t bother you both? ’

laurel watched her best friend fervently as he moved around his newly acquired room as she was already taking up space on his bedside, not bothering to help him at all. ‘ you know, i was thinking... ’ she started, eyes finally looking around as she voiced her thoughts out. ‘ your fiancé is fine with you being absent for six months? did you guys move the wedding now? ’ she asked, a chuckle escaping her lips, trying to remove the jealousy that would often lace her tone when she wanted to be a good friend to kaz.

laurel was born to a sixteen year old high schooler who never knew what protection is. after being born, she was directly shipped off to the nearest orphanage and was an orphan since she was born. 

the orphanage was small and bullying was prominent in there and despite her not being the center of the bullying, she disliked the environment of the orphanage and always kept to herself. she followed the rules to avoid attention and always hated being scolded as she would hear the snickers of the children that never liked anyways.

after a few months living despondently around the streets, a rich man happened to find her pretty (she was aged 16 already) and claimed her for his. 

warren simone, aged 50, a single businessman found profit in the face of laurel. after being kind to her, and claiming her as his daughter, he started to become creepy towards her by the fifth month of their stay. her wardrobe became skimpy and one day, she found herself crying as he took her from behind.

she could not do anything about it as she was threatened multiple times when she resisted, it became a weekly activity between them up until the point she was numb to his penetrations.

at the age of 20, laurel was enrolled in rockport university so that she would not be behind her age level. her program was of her father’s choosing since he did not want her away from him especially when he needed her.

the cruise was a lucky break for her. warren was livid about it but let her on the boat since she was always in the house and a breath of fresh air would definitely make her miss him.
