This is the only way to mute Layla’s barks. And apples are her favorite treat! Definitely my favorite trick. Used to shut her up when you get home from work or have guests over! :P

This is Layla, like the Clapton song! She is 3 years old. I rescued her when she was 1, and we’ve been pals ever since. However, things have changed and she needs a new best pal.

Hello Dog Lovers
Tumblr media
Yes, I made a blog entirely dedicated to finding my dog a new home! I love her very much, she is a great dog, but she needs someone very special and I figured tumblr was the place to go!
PLEASE STOP READING NOW IF:
You have any children, ever want children, or have children frequently visit your home
You live with many people, or in a cramped space
You believe dogs should be hit
You live outside the state of Colorado and are unwilling to pick her up. No I cant meet you halfway if you live 500 miles away, sorry.
You have a sensitivity to high pitched noises, barks, yips, screams, etc.
This is the main reason she needs a new home. We have tried everything to train her to stop barking (professional training, home training, positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement {loud sounds, cage time, light nose flicks}, citronella bark collar, shock collar, letting her “bark it out”. SHE JUST NEEDS TO BARK
Okay, one more thing before I telly you about my angel. I KNOW about the Colorado Shiba Rescue, that’s where she’s from. She’s actually cycled through there twice before I got her so clearly they were not apt to find her the right home. All nearby shelters have over a 50 dollar reliquishment fee which I cannot afford, and I want to find her the right person myself.
See my next post for the details of Layla :)

This is Layla, like the Clapton song! She is 3 years old. I rescued her when she was 1, and we’ve been pals ever since. However, things have changed and she needs a new best pal.
Before she came to me, she was abused by a man and his children in her puppyhood, so she will never trust children. She seems to like men alright though! After that home, she went to another home with two pitbulls who overpowered her with rough play she does not like, and two children who chased her and pulled her tail. She was in one other home of which I am unaware of the details. When I got her, I never planned to have kids, but surprise! Now I have one. This is why I would prefer her to go to a responsible adult, who has no children.

HER BEHAVIOR:
Unlike the picture above, when I first met Layla, she would not get anywhere near me without screaming in fear like a little girl. I had to physically carry her out of that home, with her squirming and screaming like I was about to throw her in a fire. As soon as I got into my car, she was my new best friend. She laid in my lap and licked my leg repeatedly the whole ride home. It took her about a week to warm up to letting my boyfriend touch her. Not to mention she had clearly never been trained. She shat everywhere, pissed everywhere, ate furniture, ate the crotch out of every single one of my pants and underwear, and let’s not forget she screamed in the night like someone with violent PTSD. At that point I was letting her sleep in my bed, and leaving her free roam of the house when I went to work. I tried for almost a whole year to train these behaviors out of her while giving her freedom, to no avail. She destroyed my house. So I crate trained her, fixing the problem entirely after 6 months! But to this day, if you leave her alone outside of the cage when you’re behind closed doors or leave the house, she will do any or all of those things. If she knows you are watching, she will never do those things (except bark/scream). However, she will eat garbage and food left around so be wary of that. The crate is her friend. She also now knows and follows all basic commands and even does some tricks!
Her remaining behavioral problem is the barking. It is very loud, very high pitched, and very often. She barks when anyone uses the front door, talks in the other room, anyone walks by the house, a bird chirps outside, etc. SHE JUST LOVES TO BARK. She needs to be with someone who doesn’t mind that, or is deaf or hard of hearing.
Tumblr media
Layla is good with dogs and cats after a warm up period! She just doesn’t like big alpha dogs! She is not good with strangers. She only likes people she lives with, and *some* friends. She never bites anyone! She has never even nipped at anyone except a child who lunged at her! This is why I say NO CHILDREN, she is TERRIFIED of them. She just barks defensively at everyone else.
She needs space to run! It’s her favorite thing to do, inside and outside! Her favorite game is chase! She tolerates dog parks, but tries “protecting you” by barking at literally everything that moves. She needs a spacious house with a yard.
After 2 years with me, she blossomed from an absolute nightmare dog, to a good girl who needs to bark a lot. If you can deal with that, are interested in Layla, or have questions for me, send me an ASK or Message, or simply comment on this post.
