"What I find strange is that you're so upset," Layla pointed out, putting down her phone to lightly touch their arm instead. "I don't know. It's just not like you to be like this." The smile on her lips was comforting, but it could only do so much to hide the worry she was obviously feeling. "Do you want to talk about it?"

karasolis:
“Listen up!” Kara shouted at the mass group of people, standing on one of the nearby chairs to be able to look down at everyone and make sure they were paying attention. “I don’t care how hungry you are, we have to ration the food we have or we won’t make it past next week or even tomorrow. I get it, we’re all desperate and don’t want to be in this situation but we are and we have to be smart or we’ll die because we were stupid and not because we were bitten by one of those things. Now, if you are feeling up for it, if you have food in your dorm we can share it and ration that until some of us can go out and look for more food. Think about it.” She looked over the people for a few seconds before finally getting down from the chair. “Liked my speech?” She chuckled turning to the nearest person.
“It was great,” Layla said with an almost affectionate eyeroll, a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips as she looked over at Kara. “Very inspirational, really.” Looking over at the crowd that seemed to be quite upset by the idea of rationing food, she raised a brow. “Do you really think anyone of these people is actually going to share?”

hcldendarcy:
“We should try to catch one,” Holden mused as he looked past the fence, watched walkers desperately claw at it, trying to get to all those juicy humans inside the school. Looking over at the other person, he tilted his head to the side. “I mean, we know practically nothing about this other than that they die when you destroy the brain. If we got one, we could run tests, find out how the virus works, how it’s transmitted, how long the incubation period is, if there’s a way to stop it.” His gaze drifted off to the science building, thinking of the labs inside, all the things they could figure out if people put their minds together. “I mean, we are supposed to be the intellectual elite of tomorrow, right? Now that no one knows if there is even going to be a tomorrow, we might as well just start today.”
Layla frowned at his suggestion. This might just be the worst idea anyone ever had, was her immediate response. But there was reason to is madness, just the idea of getting her hands on one of them, taking it to the lab, working on a cure. It was quite intriguing. “One would be enough, right? Someone could kite one away from the group.” One walker. That would be all it took. She could handle one walker. She saw soft wimpy kids handle one walker. How dangerous could this be?

mason-theflynn:
Mason knew that it wasn’t safe to be alone at times like these, but after he lost everyone he knew, he just assumed that everyone was dead. Maybe they weren’t, but there wasn’t really any way to contact them. He decided to explore a small shop, to see if he could find some food. He walked around the halls and when he saw someone in front of a shelf, he raised his gun and pointed it at the person. “Hey, those cookies were mine!” He said and frowned, when he realized who it was. “Wait, I thought you were dead.”
Layla was getting better at this by the day. Venturing off into the city, moving through the shadows without attracting too much attention. Grabbing what she needed and leaving unnoticed was something she had gotten used to by know - only that this time, when she stuffed her backs with yet another box of cookies, she apparently didn't go as unnoticed as usual. If it would have been any other person, she would have been scared, probably. But she recognized the voice immediately. “Wow, big guy. That's pretty offensive,” she said, an easy smile resting on her lips as she turned around. “It takes more than a couple of walkers to take me down.”

eligreyson:
“So do I, but Layla… we don’t know how things are down there. We have no communication with anyone else besides the people on this campus.” The moment they saw the first infected, every single source of communication was gone. It was like they were the last to be reached and everything else was wiped away. Then he wondered what was going on oversees, if they were fine or also experiencing the same as them. “I know. That’s what I’ve bene thinking all this time and you should come too.”
“All the more reason to go there,” Layla said eerily determined. She knew it was a dumb idea, probably even a suicide mission, but the idea of just leaving her family behind was way more sickening than imaginening what could happen to her if she decided to try and find them. “I will, eventually. But you can't wait for me. If you really want to make it, you can't wait for anyone. Take the first chance you get to go up north. I'll catch up and come find you later.”

milesxdamon:
The School health center was the one thing keeping Miles sane. Since the whole Fear The Walking Dead deal had started, the infirmary had been pretty much overrun with patients–too many to handle with its limited resources. So when they’d come looking for volunteers, Miles had been one of the worst to sign up. Since then, all of his time was spent moving from patient to patient, from the time he woke up to the time he fell asleep. The amount of focus it took kept him from absolutely losing it with all the anxiety and worry constantly building up inside of him.
He moved on to the next bed, greeting the patient with a full, enthusiastic grin. “So, what seems to be the problem?”
“I just need a clean bandage,” Layla said as she uncoiled the bloody bandage that was wrapped around her hand. The smile on his face was sickening. Sure, the situation was dire enough and sulking didn't make it better, but this amount of genuine happiness was unsettling at best. “I split my knuckles a few days ago. It was fine at first but now it started bleeding again.”

“Them?!”, Layla asked, panic bubbling up as she looked at Aderyn, the adrenaline in her body overshadowing any sort of concern she’d usually have considering how beat up her friend looked. “How many?”
“Run!” Aderyn shouted at the person standing in her way, herself already running towards the closest building. Her face was all scratched up, and her clothes and hair covered in dust and blood. “They are coming!”

“We can’t stay here forever,” he started pacing around the room contemplating everything about every single decision that been made since they found out about the infected. “Maybe if we go up farther north? I mean, don’t get me wrong we’re safe here for now but people are going to turn against each other and then what?” He let out a breath, calming himself down. Everything just came out of nowhere, all these thoughts and worries.
“I can’t,” Layla pointed out, watching Eli with a hint of concern on her face. “I'm going down south the first opportunity I get. I have family down there. I need to make sure they are safe.” She was worried, too. More on edge than usual, but she did a good job of hiding, knowing that freaking out would hardly make her situation better. But then again, she couldn't really blame Eli for it. “But you should go north. Grab a couple of friends, pack a back and get going as soon as you can. I hear chances of survival are better up there.”

Aderyn approached Layla’s on-campus apartment with a massive bouquet of white roses. She knocked on the door and waited a couple of seconds before placing it on the ground in front of the door. Even if she wanted to give her a huge hug before doing what she had to do, she was also glad she wasn’t there. At least it wouldn’t make things more difficult than it already was. She placed the letter in the middle of the flower, then quickly walked away.
« My dearest Layla,
The past few days have been really hard for me, as you probably know. I’m not going to spend much time talking about this. I just really needed you to know what a wonderful person you are: you’re beautiful, intelligent, funny, and you deserve the world. I’m more than thankful for having you by my side all this time.
However, it is time for me to say goodbye. I’m not okay and I can’t stay any longer without going crazy. I’ll contact you whenever I’ll feel ready. However, if you need anything, let me know and I’ll come back as soon as possible.
I love you a lot, take care of you and stay safe.
A.C. »

“Layla, please…” Aderyn sat down in the waiting room, sipping her coffee. She didn’t want to be alone anymore. She needed Layla, even if she wasn’t ready to just say it like this. You could just see it on her face. “No, I don’t want to bother Ezra. He’ll probably visit Emry, at least I hope. I’m not hungry, and I’m not tired.” This was a lie. She was so tired she could fall asleep in this uncomfortable chair. But she also knew she’d have nightmares and she didn’t want to. “
“Unacceptable,” Layla said as she poured herself a cup of coffee and took a seat next to Aderyn. She watched her face closely, shaking her head as she lied straight to her face. “I'll tell you what we're going to do. We finish our coffee. We go say goodbye. And then we go home, my place. I'll cook us some dinner and you can stay the night. First thing tomorrow morning, I'll drive us back here.” Tilting her head to the side, she gave Aderyn a smile. A real, genuine smile. “How does that sound?”

emeryfoster:
Emery turned to see Layla she dropped her head back in a sigh, “I just.. I can’t lay in this bed anymore.” She admitted turning back to look at her friend. She couldn’t help but laugh a little as her friend made a comment about not being able to leave, but of course even that hurt and pulled at her stitches causing her to wince. “I guess not,” She said letting Layla put her back onto the bed, still gripping at her side. “Yes please. I’ll sit here and wait, I promise.” She said holding her hands in a surrender.
Layla looked at Emry skeptically, narrowing her eyes even when she apparently gave in. “Okay, you sit your cute little butt right here and not move an inch. Not. An. Inch. You got that?”, she questioned, pointing a finger at Emery as she slowly, making her way to the door. “I'll go get you a wheelchair.” After a few short minutes, she came back into the room, placing the wheelchair next to the bed. “Okay, here we go. Let me help you up.” Taking Emery by the hands, she carefully maneuvered her into the chair. “Good. Careful. Here we go. Now let’s get you out of here.”

“No, I have to stay…” Aderyn said, grabbing her coffee and taking a sip of it. Even if it was the fourth, it still tasted awful. She turned around to look at her friend and shrugged. “What do you want me to do? Pretty much everyone is here, they are all either dead or stabbed, or visiting the ones who are still alive…” Aderyn rubbed her eye with her fist, yawning silently. “But you, you should go. I’m fine.”
“No, you don't.” Layla was having none of it. Seeing most of her best friends in hospital after getting stabbed by some psychopath was bad enough. She didn't need to see Aderyn suffering here too, sleep deprived and looking absolutely fucking broken. “I’ll stick around, check on everyone and let you know when something happens,” she suggested, tilting her head and narrowing her eyes at her friend with a skeptical expression. “Call Ezra, ask him to hang out. Go home and sleep. Get some food. You look like you need it.”

emeryfoster:
Emery was getting sick of the hospital bed, and she wasn’t usually one to wait for someone to help her. Sitting in the hospital bed all day with nothing but her thoughts.. All she could think about was that night. The memory of turning around and before she got a chance to scream it was too late. She hadn’t slept a full night since. She needed a distraction, and out of the bed. She slowly pulled herself up into a sitting position, breathing through her teeth at the sharp pulling feeling at her wound. She lowered herself till her feet hit the ground, she hadn’t really stood up in a day or two. Her legs felt a little weaker then expected, forcing her to abruptly grab onto her nightstand to brace herself and tug at her stitches. “Holy mother..”She cursed, just as someone entered the room. Closing her eyes which were pricking up with tears, so the nurse couldn’t see, she didn’t want to be told to get back into bed.
“Emery, what the hell?” was the first thing leaving Layla's mouth when she entered the room and saw her friend standing next to her bed. Placing the flowers she brought on her bedside table and setting her purse down on the ground, she quickly reached out for her, carefully placing a hand on her shoulder. “I really can't leave you alone for two seconds without you doing something stupid? Sit down.” She gently pushed her down, careful not to hurt her. “If you want to get out of bed so badly, at least let me grab you a wheelchair. We can go for a walk.”

fearlessaderyn:
Aderyn arrived at the hospital early this morning. All she knew was that the barn burnt down during the event and that many people were stabbed. She knew Riley was okay, and so was Mason, despite the fact she was not allowed to see them so far. She was standing in front of the coffee machine in one of the waiting room, waiting for her fourth coffee, whispering to herself. “And happy birthday…”
“You should go home,” Layla said as she grabbed a mug. Looking at her friend, she frowned, a worried expression settling on her tired face. “Seriously, no one should be spending their birthday in a hospital.” It was weird. Layla almost forgot. Her present for Aderyn was still sitting comfortably on her couch table, a small box, neatly wrapped in purple paper with silver ribbons. It was so easy to lose track of time and she felt almost guilty for forgetting about it. “Take a break, go out. Enjoy yourself.”
