Artist - Paul Chan
Paul Chan is an American artist who was born in Hong Kong on April 12, 1973. Chan attended the Art Institute of Chicago earning a BFA in Video/Digital Art, and later a MFA at Bard. His art ranges from projections, animation as well as multimedia which are influenced by artist and philosopher one being Henry Darger. Darger was an artists and writer who was known for his collage of ‘epic fantasy’ containing 15,000 pages. He’s work was only discovered after his death in April 13, 1973, a day after Chan was born. The topics that Chan’s art tackles are themes such as geopolitics, globalization, with their response to political climates, war documentation, violence, deviance, and pornography, language, and new media. He has had his work exhibited in gallery such as the Venice Biennale, Whitney Biennial, Documenta ,the Serpentine Gallery , Museum of Modern Art, New Museum and many others. He took a hiatus from art 2010 and in his return he was awarded the Hugo Boss Prize in 2014 for his solo exhibition Nonprojection for New Lovers at the Guggenheim.
The Hugo Boss Prize honors outstanding achievement in contemporary art, celebrating the work of remarkable artists whose practices are among the most innovative and influential of our time. This piece is somewhat hard to assess, since as with most installation you have to be there to experience it. From just watching video of this piece it is underwhelming. Though from what I’ve learned and experience from this class we the viewers each think of different things regarding the subject of the installation. This wasn’t the first award Chan has won in 2009 Alpert Award in the Arts. The piece that won him this there was Waiting for Godot in New Orleans, goes on the aftermath of the neighborhoods affected by Katrina
The main piece that drew me to Chan’s artwork is his Light and Drawing. This is a simple yet beautiful piece that uses shadows and lighting to create emotions. The installation was essentially shadow art, but what make his work differ his uses color light. In most shadow art  it is that pieces that make the shadow that create the color, not the actual source light.
He has a series of these shadow art animation in a series called Light. There are several pieces to this, the main one I’m focusing on is one called 1st Light. Similar to the Light and Drawing this plays one shadows, but done with animation. This piece gives a more eerily feel to it then the previous piece. Here it’s showing human figures falling from the sky and debris raising up giving a very apocalypse-like atmosphere to it . A completely opposite feel than the previous.
As a stated before Chan’s shadow art is what in-line in what I’m wanting to experiment with. While I’m not completely in-line with the main medium he uses, I’ve been trying and managed to accomplish with playing around in this class. What I do connect with Chan is animation, this is something I have a strong interest in. Not having a lot of practice in this medium Chan’s work are a good simple role models to help with.

Kimsooja
Kimsooja subject , form is performance art captured in video form, content is shaking up the ‘norm’ of a specific area by inserting herself doing something not normally done in that area and context is that Kimsooja want to shows the different points of views of an actions

uses the lens to show three different views

Rituals
The role of repetition is highly important  since they set us on a schedule. Schedules are important to us because they help in keeping us organized. This is shown through the constant repetition with simple daily rituals.
A ritual that I had was one which I daily watched youtube with my little brother and occasional my older sister. The ‘ritual’ is simple in which it is just me and my brother watching whatever our favorite youtuber posted. This is something that we have done for the last three years, but my sister and I have done it for nearly six. The motive for this is simple, bonding with me siblings. So this is done in a more expressive way since they only pro that comes from this ritual is connecting and bonding with my siblings.
(10 rituals under)
1) Morning routine
2) Birthday parties/gift giving
3) New Years gathering
4) Movies hangout
5) Thanksgiving gathering
6) Nightly routine
7) Christmas day/eve celebration
8) Train rides
9) Class schedules
10) Showering/bathing

Andy Warhol’s Sleep (1963)
The subject of the Sleep video is the artist’s close friend.
The form is a five hour long video recording.
What the content is the human body when it is asleep where it’s at one of the most peaceful stage.
As for the context it is not clear. It can be taken of how the body crates multiple forms without

Jesus Rafael Soto Blue Penetrable BBL
After watching a video of the Blue Penetrable what I believe is the subject is the viewer. This is because the viewer is excepted to interact and experience with the piece.
The form of the piece is a simple square filled with loose string that move the shape around.
The content is the blue strings and the viewer.
And the context of the the piece is getting the viewer to physically touch the art. This is since more often we aren’t allow to touch the art in worry of damaging it.  That is what I see as the context of the piece, to break the norm and touch and interact the piece,

Shadow Box
To make making the actual shadow art, I’m planning/ thinking of combining this idea with the concept of a shadow box. That way I can have the objects already in place and only need to adjust the lighting.

Brainstorm 10 memories
1) Playing laser tag for a friend’s.(2015)
-Inside -Large room -Two levels/floors -Dark with neon color lights -Foggy -Loud -
2) Aurora Mall/ Town Center at Aurora art festival (2009)
-Inside -Large open space - Bright lights -White/Creamy walls -Chatter - Creamy, gray, tan floor tiles - Cluttered art stands -
3) Universal Studios (2017)
-Hybrid of inside and outside -Large -Tight -Cramped - Open but limited space -Extremely loud
4) California Island (2017)
 -Spacey -Open -Outside -
5) Watching/ listening to Rebecca Sugar’s speech (2015)
- Inside (pool) - Large -Some open space -Decently lit - Large Windows (main source of light)
6) Hanging with Friends getting ice cream (2017)
-Inside - Small - Large windows - Tiny table/sitting area -Counter/ ice cream area takes most of the store’s space.
For a majority of what I can recall of the space of important/powerful memories  is they mostly occur in a building. This is likely just a coincidence and if I was able to recall more important memories it would likely balance out. Another similarity they all have is the space they take place have been large or decently big , this is because these space are public places so they have to be able to hold a large amount of people.
24 hour memories
7) Halloween/ Trick or Treating
-Outside -Open -Spacey - Dar/ Dimly lite -
8) Over at the in law house
-Inside - Spacey - Well lit
9) Bonding with my sister
-Small - Limited  moving space -Extremely cluttered/messy - Somewhat lit         - Middle size window (source of light)
10) Train ride to school
- Decent size - Early noon - Little amount of people - Well lite
1. Brainstorm a list of 10 memories that are important or powerful. Next, select one of those memories and analyze the space in that memory. Write down as many descriptive notes about that space as possible. Write down as many descriptive notes about that space as possible. Then, make a list of memories from the past 24 hours. Select one of those memories and analyze the space in the memory (do not physically visit the space to analyze it - just use your memory).
The memory I have of hanging out with my older sister, her room is extremely small. So because of how small her room there is very little open space. The only open space she has is in front of the electronic fireplace which is next to the door. Her room is filled with the basic furniture of her bed, two dressers and a work desk. Another thing filling her room is a electronic keyboard that is clumsy next to her dresser blocking off to her closet
Current Room
The room I am currently in  is a large computer room, with decent amount of room to move around between the aisles. The room also has sufficient amount in the middle and back but the front where the projector is.
Comparing this is the previous two, this and the recalling the 24 hour memories are likely more accurate from I actually remember. This is simply because of how ‘new’ these memories are. As well as how these places are location I often visit so I can recall more of what is in the space. In comparing to memories from a year to years it is easier to forget and falsely recall things.

Project 4 Ideas
One idea I have for this project is to use sound, mainly the sound of video games. Using more old style or at least, pixel inspired games, so I can create multiple cut outs for several characters. Having different sound effects or music over lapping to cause the video to listen to see if they can recognize any.

Wave Table - Liz Phillips
-subject- What I believe to be the subject of the piece is the substance in the table. The major focus is what the substance produces when it takes in the sound that is placed
-form- The form of the wave table is like ice that form on a window or a piece of glass.
-context and content- The context is simple for the substance is making a sound into a physical image we can see. For what I think is the context is as I state before, to make a non physical object/idea into physical
