TS3: Thumbnail Camera Edits

Here's a minuscule mod, inspired by TS3 beta footage, that changes the perspective of Sim and pet thumbnails in-game, making them appear at a front view instead of a 3/4 angle. 📐

This mod contains some edits to the INI files that control the camera positioning the game uses for generating thumbnails. These edits affect all Sims and all pets, including dogs, cats, horses, deer and racoons. The changes can be seen across various game modes, such as the Sim Bin in CAS, the Live Mode HUD, the notifications panel, the Online Dating App, the adoption screen, and more.

The mod comes with some caveats due to how the game stores thumbnails, so please read the rest of the post carefully.

Known Issues

Because the game stores Sim thumbnails inside save files, the game will not regenerate new thumbnails right away. To speed up the process, I recommend using Onebeld's Regul Save Cleaner to wipe the Sim portraits in your save and allow the game to regenerate new thumbnails the next time it's loaded.

Some EA premade Sims' thumbnails may resist regenerating even after following the above step, since they are stored inside .world files instead of save files. This can be resolved by opening your .world file in s3pe and removing the SNAP resources in it; I only recommend doing this if you know exactly what you're doing, and if you've backed up your .world file prior in case anything goes wrong.

Sims saved to the Sim Bin have their thumbnails stored inside their .sim file, so any Sims created prior to installing this mod will retain their old thumbnails. You can also open up any .sim file and remove the SNAP resources from it if you want to force the game to generate new thumbnails; again, please be careful and back up your files.

Compatibility

This mod is not compatible with any other mod that replaces either the base game or Pets ThumbnailCameras _INI resources.

This mod is fully compatible with any mods that alter Sims' UI poses, such as @thesweetsimmer111's New UI Poses. I prefer to use my mod in conjunction with hers in the Exaggerated flavor.

TS3: Get to Know Fix + More Discoverable Traits

Here are a couple of trait-related mods! Find a fix for some borked Get to Know functionality and some tweaks regarding which traits can be learned by Sims under the cut. 🤓

Get to Know Fix

In the vanilla game, learning another Sim's traits with the Get to Know interaction appears to be near-impossible unless your Sim has the Charismatic trait or a rather high skill level in Charisma. This can lead to unnecessarily low compatibility and BFFs who know nothing about each other.

The reason why this happens seems to be some sort of mistake where the game only accounts for Charismatic Sims' chances at learning traits through this interaction and forgets about pretty much everyone else.

This pure script mod remedies that by making sure all Sims get their chance to learn somebody else's traits when performing Get to Know. It shouldn't conflict with any other mods out there.

Optional: Higher Chance of Learning Traits

As a little extra, here is an optional tuning mod that increases the chances of learning a random trait for all Sims.

By default, the values are 20% for most Sims, 35% for Perceptive Sims and 50% for Charismatic Sims; my mod ups those to 35%, 50% and 65% respectively. You can of course open the XMLs up and tweak the values to your liking.

This mod will conflict with any other mod that edits the SocialComponent_0xd23f83ef7f810490 and TraitTuning_0xc4e3fd010a0b7db0 resources in GameplayData.

More Discoverable Traits

By default, there are quite a few traits that Sims are never able to learn in their interactions with others no matter what. These traits include No Sense of Humor in the base game and many other traits from across all the Expansion Packs.

While mmsbludhound's Trait Discovery Fix has been around for a while and solves exactly that, it also comes with the downside that a blank notification will display when a Sim learns any of these traits. That's why I set out to create my own spin on a mod like this with some enhancements.

More Discoverable Traits comes in three flavors to determine which sets of traits your Sims will be able to learn from others and includes strings for each additional trait discovery, so you'll never get an empty notification.

You may have only one of these installed at a time:

Flavor 1 - Regular: This version of the mod will enable the discovery of all traits available in CAS.

Flavor 2 - Regular + Hidden: This version of the mod will enable the discovery of all traits available in CAS as well as any hidden NPC-related traits, but not occult traits.

Flavor 3 - Regular + Hidden + LTR: This version of the mod will enable the discovery of all traits available in CAS and all hidden traits as described previously, as well as most trait-based Lifetime Rewards. This does not include LTRs that give your Sim special objects.

Keep in mind that this mod doesn't make hidden traits visible in a Sim's traits panel, nor does it give Sims reward traits automatically. You still have to give your Sims these rewards manually and then other Sims will be able to discover them.

This mod is currently translated in English and Spanish (both ES and MX localizations.) For other languages, the new text notifications will be displayed in English. Translation submissions in more languages are appreciated - for string editing I recommend s3se STBL Editor.

This mod will conflict with any other mod that edits the Traits resource in GameplayData. I know there are a lot of mods out there that alter this same resource, so if you happen to have a conflicting mod but want to use mine without losing the additions of your other mod, you can use a tool such as WinMerge to check the differences between each XML file and combine them that way.

What is new?

Recolorable - That means, you can have all the recolors below with it.

New mesh replace on old ones.

Behind of the mesh, there is TS4 Frames texture - That part is not recolorable.

Custom Thumbnails - Recolors were not visible without it.

Alpha edit texture - Invisible parts available!

It was hard to make this work, but finally I figure it out! This is something to celebrate for me. I wanna share my happines by thanking some Simmers!

So, the sliders for the nose, mouth, and face presets are going to take a while longer since I have midterms coming up, but I figure I may as well release some of the eyes since they don’t need gender conversion sliders.

Presets for Head, Nose, and Mouth

Okay, so I got around to fixing my presets to be gender neutral and I’m finally happy enough with them to share.

I use a lot of sliders, but the most important with these are @oneeuromutt‘s twin sliders (found here and here) and my sliders that have a similar function for other parts of the face.  I’m not sure whether I should upload my slider folder so instead I’ll upload a folder with screenshots of the sliders I use (which can be found here). My slider folder should be very similar to the slider folder from @tractusopticus which can be found on the Wix site here, since that’s where I initially found those sliders myself. I’m not sure if these are included in that folder or not, but I also use a lot of sliders by @simtanico in these presets, so if you want to have these presets display correctly you should download the sliders there as well. I’d also suggest the Thorns Tiny Lips slider since that affects the size and shape of the mouth presets.

Welcome to Aileen Landing! (BETA Version)

A custom sci-fi alien neighborhood with scripted events! ^^

Aileen LaFontaine's discovery of this moon has raised hope for people from all over the world. Sims from Pleasantview, Strangetown or Veronaville have left their homes for a better future on this moon!

But the environment seems rather intimidating than welcoming! Bizarre gravity. Swirly gas giant hovering over the ominous misty sky. Two pulsating suns?

Is the "New, Better" world really a better world?

You will find out as you play in the neighborhood! ;)

Neighborhood Information:

* Fully BG Compatible and No CC/EPs Required to play in this neighborhood! However, you may want to check out the optional sky mod I made specifically for this neighborhood.

* No camera mod needed to view the whole neighborhood.

* 58 lots (13 community / 45 residential) … with a few “ready-to-upgrade” lots for EPs, such as Nightlife, Open For Business, Apartment Life, etc.

* 15 families with scripted events/scenarios like in the TS2 base game neighborhoods (see attached screenshots below!)

* Includes customized alien townies/NPCs to reflect the neighborhood's overall theme! Most of the sims are named after actual celestial bodies... i.e. there is a sim named after the star Pollux!

* Speaking of which, there are lots of other astronomical references/easter eggs in the neighborhood (well I guess, that's what happens if you let a physics student design a neighborhood, lol!)

Main Download:

*Aileen Landing BETA (with Sims) - to install, put the folder AL01 into your Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 (Ultimate Collection)/Neighborhoods folder and you’re good to go. If you can’t see the neighborhood, try deleting the NeighborhoodManager.package file.

Optional Downloads:

*Alien Skybox NEW! (Recolor of lowedeus’s skyboxes) - doesn’t affect other neighborhoods unlike the default replacement sky mod, plus a few more details in the sky! See screenshots here! To install, just place it into your Downloads as usual.

*Alternative Alien Sky Mod (DEFAULT REPLACEMENT) - default sky mod as seen in early screens of Aileen Landing, suitable for those with EPs lower than Pets and/or cannot use the skyboxes! To install, just place it into your Downloads as usual.

Custom Scripted Events!

I really don't want to spoil too much on this already and just let you guys explore the neighborhood first, lol! But I've included an optional mod that introduces you the sims and their storylines a litte.

Simply remove it from the neighorhood folder once you've finished your first round (I recommend playing each family for one day to complete the scripted events). If you don't want to use this mod, you can also remove it from the neighborhood folder.

The recommended play order is exactly the way the families are presented in the neighborhood story. But you can play as you like, the scripted events are independent from each other and won't break if you choose a different play order.
