Yep... you read that right. I had to greatly reduce my caffeine this week. Why? Well, that requires some explanation. In case you all didn't know, I've been recovering from shingles. (Look it up.) WAY earlier than I should've gotten it. I'm only 45. Between a kinda-stressful (but good) trip to California, more than one sickness scare during said trip, a histamine reaction to my usual deodorant, immediately returning to work, and an already crappy immune system... yeah... my body gave out. Early shingles outbreaks in younger (or in my case, young-ish) people usually happens because of two factors: compromised immune system (which I've often theorized), and stress. And I was five years shy of qualifying for the shingles vaccine. As for stress? Oh I'm always stressed. I took a week-and-a-half off of work during the worst of it. The whole left side of my body felt like it was constantly being rubbed with fiberglass. From the inside. That has since subsided in Week 2, but I'm not out of the woods, yet. Recovery has been slooooooowwwwww. I wondered why. So, I did a little reading. It turns out continued stress will prolong the infection. Caffeine exacerbates stress in those prone to anxiety and/or are caffeine sensitive. I'm both, albeit undiagnosed. To hopefully speed up recovery, caffeine and I are sort of on hiatus. Luckily, I have plenty of herbal and decaf options on hand. The withdrawal symptoms, though...? Sleep has been rough-goin', and my dreams? Yeesh, pure nightmare fuel. And the migraines, well, I already had those everyday; that's old hat. Dunno how long this embargo will last. Just letting y'all know in case you were 💀 DYING 💀 for more tea content.
