Using angles and a vision to capture a story is how we creatives spend our free time. We have to map it all out and be organized. I find this form of assembly to be enjoyable in a way that keeps you on your toes and can change course at any moment. One second you want your work to look a certain way and the next it seems like the entire lens flipped, rotated and landed on its front after a U-turn. These stages of production each offer new challenges new outlooks and more to learn with each mistake and each win. We creatives indulge in such magnificent variation. With joyous effort we take it step by step all looking to put together an output that others can offer a judging eye to. Negative or positive, feedback is feedback and we will embrace it with more to come. This is my purpose in the creative field and maybe it can be yours too.

I chose to interview my club on a pressing topic that seems to add some stress to everyone’s load and this is increasingly true in college. They were very open to explain if they were single or in a relationship helping me to understand why they responded the way they have. One key focus I brought to their attention were some of their biggest fears in relationships which provoked answers they later were understood to be reasons on why they act accordingly when it comes to sustaining relationships and looking for relationships. I could hear out their feelings revealing pet peeves and so many linked concerns were brought up showing how complex relationships can get especially around this age. I learned from the interview that many young adults are simply fed up with “games” and the uncomfortable situations that are brought along by relationships. I hope to continue this interview to get other perspectives and to uncover the similar truths we all feel toward subjects we are faced with every day.

“GO GREEN! GO WHITE!” A chant that can never get old, a monumental chant that can represent virtually anything spirited. We the Spartan family take pride in building our community through four intense words. We can greet each other with it, congratulate each other with it, we can instill so much culture into these four words it is incredible. It causes adrenaline to stir and intensities of the context to grow. It opens doors for the connections that drive this community to fulfill the greatness we have entailed for so long. It is allowing us to GO forward  to GROW beyond limits. Many forms of community have worked but this one is certainly showing off its quality. Setting example not only benefits the legacy itself but inspires the velocity of other movements to find voices that will develop just as strong and resilient making it that much easier for progress to disperse.

Couples run to pumpkin patches, sisters go for the photo ops. A way of getting around seasonal depression with my girls is to learn how to appreciate each others company trumping those relationship wishes. We can have just as good of a time sharing cider and donuts because we’re all we got and sometimes that is okay. We take boomerangs fake laughing turning out to be so funny that we begin genuinely laughing. Behind this camera Is a story. A story about a few girls not letting the cheery joy the holidays bring sweep past them. We will watch the leaves change colors and we will also make sure we are the ones in front of the tree trying to capture that memory. This is my type of sisterhood, the rest can wait because fall won't miss our presence. Capture the moment, before there aren’t any left, tomorrow isn’t promised so why do less?

yellow, red, orange, brown four colors spelt with letters.
that is not all they are confined to be.
letters following one another forming meaning
but scents, themes, and feelings are spelt with letters.
pumpkin spice, bourbon maple, cinnamon bark,
fall fiascos, pumpkin patches, hayride,
when the sip of apple cider
takes your mind to a dream painted by these colors
we call that no feeling lighter.
fall colors.

When you think of sisterhood and brotherhood what mental picture can one draw up? Both magnify what it means for individuals to uplift each other and eventually discover such an important bond. Through blood, through friendship, and through groups we see these structures flourish. They have different ways of forming their own connections. They can be all different, no two alike. Maybe growing through silly traditions, perhaps through supporting the community, even simple pow wows on fun discussion topics. The best part of the connections can be described as unique. When I asked that question earlier what was your take? Is the experience one that you long for or have endured? Again it’s unique. To each their own in regards to sisterly and brother love. Maybe through wielding you’ll find your missing piece, through hobbies and through out our entire world somewhere in this world there is sister and brother hood out there waiting to be a special part of your life.

Last Thursday morning, I peeled myself out of my lovely warm bed to clean the overflowing basket of dirty socks and clothes collected during the past two weeks. As I walked down the hallway, I noticed it was eerily silent as if the whole building was in hibernation. I carefully balanced my basket on my leg as I opened the heavy door to the machines. Usually, I do my laundry at night after a long day of classes. After exploring this new route, I genuinely enjoy morning laundry. It is a productive time to get homework done and have some quiet self-reflection. Since I was the only insane person to wake up early on a weekday, there were no distractions - only the calming hum of the laundry machines.

Physics two is a hard class. However, my friends and I like to reflect on the differences in our professors - some may call it “People Watching.” Our professors are the best. One is from Germany, and the other is from - we think - France. This week we had our french professor. Our French professor is a nice guy. He tries to give us modern examples to try to relate to the course. However, if you listen, you can tell that he has a different accent. It is somewhat different than the American accent. The sound “oui” is something you hear a lot during lectures. However, with our german professor talks very stern and factual - with fewer examples to life and more application examples. There is less of an accent with our german professor as well. Also, our french professor’s clothes are a bit more refined than our german professor. Having professors from different countries is something fresh and unique. It is an opportunity to hear and see small cultural differences.

As a woman in the field of engineering, it is tough to feel that I belong in such a man dominated occupation. In my EGR100 - an introduction engineering project class required for all engineering freshmen - I am one of five women. To find other women in engineering joined the following MSU organizations: Society of Women Engineering (SWE), Women In Engineering (WIE), Women In Computing (WIC). In SWE we get together on an average of every two weeks. The first introduction meeting at SWE was terrific. It was crazy to see all these powerful and intelligent women in one room. I got to meet other women with the same and different engineering majors to me. I got to learn about their experiences as a woman in engineering and learned helpful tips. One useful advice I got from SWE was, “do not feel threatened by men.” Women are equally, if not more, intelligent to men. I got to meet women that have interned at huge companies such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft. As a computer engineering student, I look up to these women as role models. I know that I can achieve anything if I do not give up.

This club defines support, defines broken boundaries, it debunks stigmas. We are Big Sister Little Sister. They said black women cannot get along “they can’t support their own kind” but BSLS will and does. This chapter has heart I can see it, sense it, and even feel it in my heart. They find purpose bringing a lot more meaning to the importance of sisterhood itself. We walk for awareness. We strive in our principles. We remember always to take our sisterhood with us. Our bond makes the difference. Empowering each other making us stronger. I take a look around at the buzz of a simple general meeting. We embrace interacting with new sisters at each event. We smile and greet without hesitation. We click during ice breakers. We show up in numbers to establish the passion held for our sisterly movement. Our culture is not the typical organization it is bigger than that alone, it’s bigger than us... it is the example.

She’s in a cast, grocery shopping in Fresh Thyme. I didn’t pick her for any reason, she just caught my attention. From the fresh produce to scratching her head about the right cucumbers to buy maybe tomatoes instead. She circles around as if she’s about to leave but caves in to snatching a couple of avocados. On to the next isle she sniffs the fresh nuts. I wonder what she gathers from the scented information. Walking away a tad faster as if she’s taking too much time in that section she reveals that she’s shopping with a friend and they begin shopping for fruits together. One with a basket to push and the other with a basket to hold. Friend appeared to be more like a roommate. They discuss how they feel about the products they’re selecting. “I kinda want to try this guac.” one friend reveals. Maybe they’re planning a Taco Tuesday or shopping to load up the apartment for the week. The beauty is going shopping as friends doing their own bonding, being adults and adulting. Food on the table isn’t the only format of bringing people together so does the actual shopping of the food.

Dull seemed to be hers, his, and everyone’s limit. Content with boring was okay? I was sick of the standards. That packed, brown cardboard box that was suffocating. I didn’t like closed spaces, call me claustrophobic. I wanted to branch out, to create, the most beautiful verb to be. More than existing, more than general. Difference, was a glow I wanted to be drenched in. In and out let me glow but here I transfer my glow, and make room for more. Everyones, hers, and his was there but where? Where now does it lay? Floating to the sky wasted, forgotten, unlocked.
