“Mmmmm- I don’t know if that’s a word beautiful,” Jack replied in a sing-song voice as went over to the coffee pot and poured herself a cup. She added a couple of sugar lumps and cream, she was trying to figure out what she wanted to eat. Coffee was not a substantial breakfast, but she knew for some people it was enough. “I’m craving waffles- how do you about that?” Jack asked. “I do have a waffle iron that is calling our name- and it will go great with your fruit.”

               ‘‘ seems like a word to me, ’’ she teased before moving a few strands of hair out of her face, tucking them behind her ear. the messy bun was slowly falling apart on the top of her head, but the wolff woman couldn’t bring herself to care. knowing that jack wouldn’t complain about any way she looked; seeing her drunk to waking up in the morning, the other woman saw it all. ‘‘ you don’t have to ask me twice on that one. you feeling peaches, mangos, strawberries? i think i have some frozen blueberries in the freezer. ’’ healthy eating? new thing for andi, not that she would complain as long as jack was the one eating it with her.

Angel understood depression, not many people knew this about her but she had seen it first hand with an old friend. She tried not to think about it, considering how it ended. Seeing a repeat of the actions on Jessie- she needed to get through to the girl so that she didn’t fall into the same fate. Her family didn’t deserve that, neither did King. “Don’t apologize,” Angel rolled her. She remained standing with her arms crossed looking down at the girl.

“Haven’t you had enough of that now?” Angel questioned shaking her head. She needed to remain rough, she wanted Jessie to fight back not be so- so much of a lesser being. Hearing the mention of an anniversary, she assumed it had to deal with her brother. She never knew the details and was hoping she didn’t need to  get into it too much. “Yeah you should, I’ll help you clean up- you should shower and I’ll start. And if you want a sounding board- I have the two ears god gave me, but for now- let’s focus on external, it might help the internal a bit.”

               ‘‘ shower ---- i can do that. ’’ slowly, but surely, jessie got up from the side of the couch that had a now indefinite print of her small body. taking a deep breath, jessie moved towards the bathroom, closing the door behind her. it wasn’t that she was dirty; taking showers was still a daily thing, but dry shampoo was her best friend as she rarely had the energy to fully wash and exfoliate her hair.

               give or take a half hour to forty-five minutes, jessie was found gravitating from the bathroom door. hair still damp but combed and looking fresh looking. new clothing covered her body, her own clothing, a pair of jeans and a t-shirt as though she was actually going out. stepping outside of the house was a scary thought, the idea of seeing people she knew and was blocking out of of her mind and not answering their messages. taking a deep breath, jessie moved back to where angel was located, instantly feeling as though she needed to help. ‘‘ what----’s left? not sure if you’ve been towards the bedroom but i’ve mostly been on the couch so the bedroom isn’t too bad. laundry is minimum but i can happily go down to do it. ’’ her voice was still quiet, still broken, but she was up. survivors guilt - she needed to handle it, needed someone to help her handle it, but asking for help was never jessie’s strong-suit.

“Your rants are adorable and anyone who tells you different can deal with moi,” Angel replied. Despite hurting Harleen herself, Angel was very protective over the girl and she would bite anyone’s head off that came even slightly close to hurting her. Angel may have a cutesty name but her claws are always ready to come out. “I’m sure there are, but none that compare to you. So do you want a proper prom-posel or will this suffice Leeny?” Angel asked.

Angel linked arms with her bestie leading her to her car so they could drive to the local diner. Although she knew she would have to run for an extra hour, she did enjoy being with the blonde which is why she insisted on picking her up from school on select days. “Good, now tell how was your day?”

               ‘‘ deal with you? i’d be worried about their well-being, ’’ she stated with a small chuckle following afterwards. harleen wasn’t a tough girl, she had gone to multiple people to help build her back up after the rejection from angel. she didn’t have a backbone, she was filled with sunshine & jelly, nothing that was firm enough to keep her to stand up-right to hold her ground. angel was the hard one, the one that didn’t take shit from anyone; relying on her wasn’t something that harleen specifically enjoyed, almost feeling bad the more she used angel for her own security reasons. ‘‘ that’s perfectly fine! i don’t need a full prom-posel, ’’ that would just be more stress for the woman.

               moving towards the car, she took in a deep breath. she knew angel was strict about her body, strict about how she looked due to her intense training. harleen believed she was nothing less than beautiful, but she knew better than to voice her concerns about the continuous pressure. angel would come to her when she needed. ‘‘ it was okay! nothing too stressful, got my homework done for the week so i can relax before getting next weeks done. how was yours? ’’

“Then we’ll stay here for a bit, but I do think we should go out eventually so we don’t leave you sis all by herself,” Brad suggested. He had grown close with the family in the last few weeks of their mother’s life and he could tell Talia wasn’t fond of people. He was trying to stay on the both girls good side. “In the meantime- wanna play twenty questions? Keep your mind off out there?”

               ‘‘ talia is probably thankful that i’m up here and not down there. i’m more prone to make a scene than she is. talia is too ---- nice for her own good, ’’ she said quietly before taking a deep breath and sitting up properly across from the male. ‘‘ but i agree. i’ll go down once i’m calmer and not full of anger and resentment. could be a while. ’’ she said in a small joking tone before letting out the first chuckle in a few days. ‘‘ twenty questions? i guess. you start though, set the tone for this whole ----- ordeal. ’’

“Friends? I interrupted Friends? The oldest show you have seen at least a dozen times! I am so sorry!” He remarked sarcastically. Manpreet settled in on the couch across from her, he needed to be out of arms length of the woman. “There are other food groups? Who knew. I mean I do eat at home sometimes, but a man can get tired of roti,” he shrugged. “We can go on a run after?”

            ‘‘ do not even think about judging my netflix streams while you’re over here eating dumplings like it’s going to out of style, ’’ she stated before flicking pieces of hair out of her face, not even attempting to move away from the male as he sat next to her, tilting her head towards him to look at his face during their conversation. ‘‘ just because you’ve managed to become someone that i talk to on a regular basis, do not think i won’t fuckin’ smack you. ’’ she said with a warning before reaching for the bag filled with chow mein. ‘‘ cute that you think i actually go for runs. i’d love to teach you yoga one day, though. i think i’ll get in enough laughs for the new decade watching that. ’’

Angela rested her forehead on his momentarily before settling back down on her feet. She enjoyed being this close to him, his warmth radiating on to her, she was never anti love but she always thought it would be difficult because of what her parents had been through. It was nice that things just felt easy with Clay and happy.

“Madam- isn’t that for like married old woman or like teachers?” Angela giggled. She forced herself away from him a bit, it was bit chilly out and she was ready to enter the car. “I am actually starving and craving pasta?” She smiled.

               clay didn’t have much of a history of witnessing love. his father had dipped at a young age, elena and his father consistently fighting which caused them to separate. of course, he was still in touch with his father, but with him living in chicago, it left with him feeling as though he missed out on a lot in his young years. not that he hated his mother, he loved elena with his whole heart, but there were things he wouldn’t want to talk to his mother about. pressing his lips together, he couldn’t help but smile at the giggle that came from the woman’s lips, only falling deeper with each giggle. ‘‘ well we better get some pasta in that system of yours, huh? ’’ he asked as he opened the door for her. once he slid in himself, he looked towards her. ‘‘ how was work? what’s the record of the day? ’’

Rose shook her head in disbelief handing the i.d. back to her big sis- a thought that was still wild considering she never thought she’d ever get to have a sibling. Her mother barely wanted her, at least that’s how she felt. “I’m proud of you! Now I have my own personal uber, huh- huh?” She chuckled. “Hey! My life isn’t a total snore fest, I have my girl, I have my friends, I have my snowball- I don’t need the inspiring Italian air,” Rose giggled flipping her red hair back. “But- I hope you came back with something really special for your baby sis who is graduating this year!”

               initially, aurora had not been fond of the other woman; mason wanting another child without even thinking about trying to come raise rory was enough to make the woman go into a spiral downwards. it was cooper that raised her, who made her into the woman she was today, who made sure that she was nothing less than spoiled with love and devotion. ‘‘ only if you provide the starbucks, ’’ she teased with a small chuckle, reaching into her bag to pull out the small box that held the necklace with rose’s nickname engraved in a silver heart. since warming up to the other, aurora couldn’t find herself without a sister. she might have grown up without a father, but she knew what it felt like to have a sister and that was enough for her. ‘‘ nothing too special, but it’s from rome so i thought that was enough of a special side. ’’

Zach felt bad seeing Zoey cry, but he also understood this was an emotional time for his girlfriend and even for him. He had been reading up on books about autism and googling to try and make sure he wasn’t gonna cause the boy harm, but he also knew they were both doing the best they could. Zach wrapped his arms around Zoey hopefully given her the comfort she needed, he loved her and he needed her to know she was not alone at all. “Most parents have no idea what to do, you just have an extra challenge, but I don’t want you for one second believe you are doing worse then anyone else,” Zach replied kissing the top of her head. “And I really need you to understand that you are not alone here, we have been building a life together. You even said you want to have a kid with me some day- so I have to assume we are entering a very serious zone. You have to stop thinking of us being one and one and start seeing us as a team,” he paused. “I’m sorry I gave you the impression that work stresses me out, I like my job- it just normal complaints. And I want to pay for a better environment for him or an aid or something. Because I’m here for both of you. We’ll figure out your job front when we can- but I make enough and what better way to spend my money then on this?”

              zoey wasn’t the type to cry, to just break down without reason. she was the type of woman that kept her feelings bottled up, dealing with them on her own terms and in her own way of healing. she didn’t cry after justin had left her upon finding out about her pregnancy, she didn’t cry after she gave birth to abel and became worried about how she was going to raise him. she never cried when it became too much, nor did she cry (at least now this bad) when abel was diagnosed with autism. zoey was a strong woman, probably strong enough to worry the men around her most days with her inability to show her emotions like most women did. zach’s words were enough to make her sob in a more hysterical manner, knowing that she wasn’t alone or that she wasn’t letting down her son was the words that she needed in that moment. never feeling like a failure, the more the school called to tell her that her son was uncontrollable despite the medication rushing through his veins, was enough to make her feel as though she was failing the one person in her life she vowed to never fail. ‘‘ i just ---- , ’’ before she could even finish arguing, she gave in with a nod of her head. zach was her support system, someone she wanted to build a family with and someone she would be happy to see at the end of an aisle, but she couldn’t help but feel as though she tied him down in a situation he didn’t entirely want. ‘‘ i’m not ----- i’m not failing him, right? ’’ she asked, voice cracking. ‘‘ i ---- i love you, zach. ’’

“Well- seeming as your not laughing, I’m gonna guess no?” Autumn sighed. Something told her this conversation was going to go different, and she was not ready for a serious blow up. She got up and threw on her under and pants as he continued. She didn’t quite know what to muster up in response, she was not good at feelings and frankly didn’t want to get better. “You- you don’t sound stupid. Or less manly- or whatever,” she said crossing her arms she sat back down on the bed. “Have you ever thought that maybe I just don’t get why you want or need more from me?”

              he didn’t enjoy arguing with the woman, he should be satisfied with just having her for the time he could. but he couldn’t help but hate the feeling that ran through his veins every time she would leave the door, causing him to wait by the phone for her ringtone to take over his ears. ‘‘ because i like you, autumn. for ----- fuck sakes, how else am i supposed to say it? if you don’t want anything more, that is fine, i won’t force you into anything that you won’t want or are ready for, but you need to fuckin’ respect me just as much as i respect you. you know i like you, i can’t ----- keep doing this. my feelings aren’t going to just disappear the more i fuck you. ’’

Maddy had signed and filed away her college apps awhile ago. She was excited to start the next chapter, but she knew she had to get through all of this now. “I would love to see the dresses you have in mind?”

             ‘‘ i know that no one is telling me how to feel , just worried since everyone is talking about their futures and i have absolutely no idea what i want to do with mine, ’’ she said quietly. harleen had always thought she wanted to be a nurse , someone that had a profession of helping people but the closer she got to that ending , she wanted to back away. letting out a small sigh , she turned around and began to lean back against the other woman. ‘‘ alright , a lot of the photos are not in the colour i want. we both know that i will wear pastel pink or absolutely nothing, ’’ she said with a small chuckle , pulling out her phone to scroll through the few dresses she had in mind.

               ‘‘ yes it’s real , i’m offended that you think i would fake it ! ’’  she said with a fake gasp , chuckling soon after. it was an on-going gag on when aurora would get off her couch & get her drivers license , finally receiving the i.d needed to prove that she was legally of age , as of the second of the month. shaking her head from side to side , aurora took the i.d back into her possession , a part of her worried on if rose saw the name change she had approved. being adopted by cooper was a conversation that was of length , especially the argument she had with her so-called father on giving up his rights for cooper to do such. ‘‘ so ----- how’s the boring life ? want to assume you missed me while i was away , living my best life in italy ? ’’

Amelia let out a grunt as they dragged their body up the stairs, feeling the pat on their ass from their best friend just made them let out an over exaggerated groan before chuckling and rushing to get changed into outdoor appropriate clothing. Amelia threw on the first things that smelled clean, a black the beatles shirt, a pair of ripped jeans, and a leather coat before trudging back down the stairs. “Dressed to impress, now where are we going?”

               waiting patiently , the blonde woman chewed at her thumbnail , eyes focused on the stairs & praying that her best friend to come back into her field of vision. ‘‘ damn , i’d fuck you. ’’ she said without hesitation , chuckling before reaching up with her hand , waiting for the other to take hold of it. ‘‘ few options. there’s a new bar & grill not far from here , with chilli flippin’ cheesefries ! or we could go bowling , they have that late night bowling happening with the loud music , or there’s the pier if you want some corn dogs. ’’

Angela couldn’t believe how well things went when Clay’s family found out, of course Juliet and Angela went through a bit of tussle over being secretive about it but they eventually got over that hump and Juliet forgave her. Their relationship being open and free meant that they could finally hang out with nothing looming over them, and she was happy. She was literally a bubble of joy whenever she looked at the boy, it was feeling she couldn’t really explain. She had to believe it was similar to what Zach felt when he looks at Zoey, hell how her parents still look at each other despite everything they’ve been through.

Angela left the music shop with a bright smile painted on her face as she her boyfriend opening up the car door. “Ooooo a whole chariot just for me?” She giggled. It was old school working in a music shop, selling vinyls- it felt like 80s and Angela loved it. “You are right, that does deserve a reward and you even get bonus points for not bringing the motorcycle this time,” she laughed before leaning into him. She got up on her toes to give him a kiss.

              he didn’t hesitate , allowing their lips to connect & returning the kiss with as much passion as his body could consume into it. once they pulled away , he allowed himself a few seconds to gaze down at the woman he managed to score as his own. clay knew he wasn’t the best person to be around , hell , he had been nothing less of a stoner prior to getting close with angela. angela was the one that made him a better person , a better communicator & a better human overall. with her bright personality & happy features , he was able to have her happiness radiate to him in little effort.

               pushing hair behind her ear , he pulled back just enough to get a bigger pictures of her in his field of vision. he never knew what love felt like , since angela was the first person that he managed to hold in his arms with feelings between them , but he knew that this was a feeling that was close enough to such. ‘‘ where would you like to go, madam ? you hungry ? need some caffeine ? my bed is made with some fresh sheets if you’d like to curl up for a nap. the world is your oyster , ’’ he said quietly , worried if he spoke too loud that he would break the bubble that engulfed them both.

Zach loved Zoey more than anything in the world, which also extended to her son Abel. Yeah sometimes Zoey had to reel him back and remind him that Abel was not his son- which hurt every single time she did- but he still remained being a father figure in the young boy’s life. Zach just became more careful about stepping on Abel’s actual parent’s toes. “Hey- I’m not gonna tell you that you are not entitled to your feelings because you definitely are- but going down there and screaming at every teacher is only going to make things worse,” Zach said coming deeper into the room, he had just gotten off work and barely got a chance to say hello before Zoey burst. He settled in next to her bringing her close to him. “Maybe— he hesitated. This was something he had been thinking about for awhile but he didn’t want to impose or make her feel dumb for either not thinking of it or being afraid of not being able to afford it. “Maybe we should look into better schools that are able to handle a kid with autism, I mean there are more out there now and we can figure out the best place for him.”

               the words came through & finally hit the nerve that zoey needed. the nerve for her to finally break down in the tears taht were coped up in her body since having the diagnosis on paper. she wasn’t alone , she knew she wasn’t alone but yet she became so used to being on her own with abel that she would get upset at zach for trying to help. get upset at zach for acting like the parental figure that abel needed , acting like the significant other than zoey , herself , needed & deserved. curling up next to zach , she took in a deep , shaky breath before the tears began to fall. ‘‘ i don’t ---- know how to help. i’m his fucking mother and i don’t know how to help him , zach. who the fuck sucks so bad that they can’t help their own child ? ’’ it wasn’t her fault , she knew it wasn’t , but she couldn’t help but blame herself for the consistent fights with the school. ‘‘ we don’t ---- you’re the only one working full time , zach. i can’t ask you to pay for a new school enrollment with money that can be put to other uses , i ---- , ’’ she paused , tears falling down her cheeks. ‘‘ i’m just ---- scared okay ? there is so much going on. there’s so much happening. everett is trying to get me more hours but i’m worried that he won’t be able to , you’re working so much that you’re stressed as it is , & i keep ---- pushing you away. i keep saying you aren’t his dad , but you are. you’re his fucking dad and i can’t bring myself to accept that because i’m so ----- used to being alone & he needs help & i don’t know how to provide it. ’’ word vomit , but damn she needed to break down.
