A soft laugh was offered as a reply, before a nod and the assurance of his presence later that night. They couldn’t speak much longer before being interrupted by the bell, rushing them to go to their own classes.
★   ★   ★   ★
Matthew wasn’t usually so punctual when coming to parties, but that was a pre-game, and he didn’t know how much time would V’s friends and herself want to spend before going to the actual event. With that in mind, he made the mental note to at least try to appear on time, not wanting his first invitation to a private party thrown by Veronica being his last.
At nine seven, he was entering the pembrooke, not entirely sure what he had imagined but what he saw being something like it.  Despite Veronica’s assurance that she would be the one handling the ‘ party favors ‘, it felt inconsiderate to come empty-handed. Carrying his own contribuation to the future alcholic state they’ll be in soon, there was the smallest smirk on his lips when he saw Veronica. “Not bad, Lodge. Not bad at all.” Mocking tone soon being replaced by an honest smile. “Hope I’m not the first one, that would be incredibly embarrassing.”

“Yes, I know a.... what? No, it’s not Royce.” Frowning expression, Luke tried to not sound like he was lying. He wasn’t, anyway; he did know a super. the fact that it was himself was a small detail. “He’s... an old friend of mine, from school. We kept in touch, and he discovered a while ago that he has powers too. He’s not too known because he isn’t in the saving people business yet, but he definitely has powers, I saw it.” At least it worked. Sloane did seem more interested, even if it looked like she wasn’t completely buying it yet. Luke could only imagine how she would react if she knew he was a super himself.

@perfectdisastcr // Luke & Sloane
Luke could actually feel Sloane’s interest (and his chances of their relationship becoming anything other than merely acquaintances) going away, as if he was trying to hold sand with his hands. Upon discovering her interest in supers, however, he made one last desperate move. “I actually know a super. Didn’t I tell you? I feel like I told you.” He had most definitely not told her, but that was only because Luke didn’t know it would help him score some points with her. As much as he wanted to say he was a super himself, the small voice of self-preservation that he had in the back of his mind stopped him before he could say anything like that. A tiny white lie wouldn’t hurt anyone.

Seeing Cameron even slightly less worried made everything worth it; Cher didn’t realize how much his expression changed when he wasn’t frowning until she could see him like that, enjoying without much care in the world (even if she knew that couldn’t last long). Still dizzy by the alcohol in her blood, Cher rest her arms on Cameron’s shoulders, so they are dancing close but with still enough distance between them. Her waist moves following the rhythm of the song, and she tries to help him improve his dancing by having her as a guide. --  She had to help him; Cher just couldn’t allow him to keep dancing like that for much longer.-- “See how fun parties can be? You should throw one every now and then.” The playful smile in her lips indicates that she’s joking, trying to make it clear before Cameron had a heart attack. “Well, I told you before; you are always invited to my weekly visit to the mall.”

There was a certain satisfaction in making the other woman smile ( as mocking as her grin could’ve been ), a feeling that only grew when he realized she agreed to show him around. It made Gabriel feel that he was doing something right. “Should I? Feel like a big shot, I mean.” There was a small laugh followed by a more honest and less joking shrug, as he thought about his relationship with his uncle. “We don’t see each other much. And this is my first time in the town since I’m five, so if there’s any favoritism towards my surname I haven’t lived it yet.” Gabriel knew that his uncle was a sort of politician, but he never thought much about it. Thanking her for her advice and her agreement to guide him, he started following her with his hands in the pockets’ of his jacket. “I didn’t know my uncle was an active part of the town, if it’s worth anything.” He didn’t use the word ‘important’ on propose, feeling like it was too despotic.

❝ there’s a hole in my soul. ❞ -- For Grace !!
It wasn’t the first time someone told something along those lines to Grace. There were people who mocked her because of her introspective personality and her strong religious beliefs, but there were also people who saw in her someone to talk about things they couldn’t talk anywhere else. Grace didn’t know if Tate was someone from the second group, but either way, she didn’t really mind. If talking with her made people feel better, who was her to deny that help to anyone? The real problem was that she didn’t always find the right answer. “Maybe it’s temporary.” Tone soft and hopeful, Grace didn’t look at him, instead focusing on the flower she had picked up and was then holding in her lap. “Maybe you’ll get to fill it sometime.”

Nose wrinkling upon hearing Cameron’s comment, Cher laughed slightly. Mild-drunk thoughts crossed her mind, particularly how tall Cameron seemed to be. Focusing back on her friend’s words, an easy smile ( one that showed that Cher was already a bit dizzy ) appeared again. “Yeah! But I’m a little alone right now. Like, Dionne left to god knows where with her boyfriend and last time I saw Tai she was talking...” Flirting. “With some random guy. I think he doesn’t even go to our school.” Small shrug to indicate she wasn’t particularly angry. As a host, she didn’t have a lot of time to spend around her friends, anyway. “Wanna dance?” You didn’t have to be a genious to know that Cameron’s thing probably wasn’t dancing, but Cher figured, who knew? Maybe he had enough alcohol in his body to try, maybe he would do it just for her. Either way, she was sure it would end up being something fun for both of them (well, she hoped). Reaching over to hold his hand and pull him towards the dance floor, Cher encouraged him. “Come on, it’ll be fun.”

Low chuckle came from the back of her throat as Bianca heard the guy’s question. Why did people dislike her? “They tend to see me as a bit...” like an asshole “Hostile.” Small shrug to indicate that she would leave it up to him to decide if they were right or not. Even if what he was saying was true, people judged her for what she did and what she continued doing, not just by her behavior in the past but also in the present. “As long as you don’t rat me out, I think I don’t have anything to worry about. And you seem mildly trustworthy, so I’ll take my chances.” What Bianca had her doubts about was handling him her phone, and she clearly hesitated before eventually taking it out and handing it over to him. It wasn’t like she was accepting to go on a date with a stranger; she had just offered to walk him to the Academy, it was nothing more.

Honest smile graced his lips as he heard Veronica’s reply, classy as ever ( was there anything Veronica Lodge did that wasn’t classy? Doubtful. ) Walking with her through the halls of the school, Matthew had to give it to her; Veronica’s life was pretty chaotic, and she did seem to handle it flawlessly. Kudos to her for that.

“Oh, does that mean I’ll get a chance of meeting the famous pembrooke apartment? Wonder what I have to do to get invited to such an exclusive get-together.” Playful tone as ever, Matthew didn’t want to invite himself to a gathering that she wasn’t planning on inviting him to in the first place, but he figured that if V didn’t have any intention of him going, she wouldn’t have said anything about the pre-game at all — right? “Should I expect a hand-written invitation mailed to my house in golden ink, or is talking with you now invitation enough?”

Was there anything better than a good party? Maybe going on a stress-free shopping spree, but this was definitely a good second. Cher had definitely done a good job on this one. Attentive eyes fell on Cameron the moment she felt his hold on her hand, suddenly aware that he is a small detail she might’ve not handled yet. “I was making sure everyone was having a good time!” The reply is spoken with a tone that makes it seem like she’s saying something obvious ( wasn’t she? )“And I think I did a good job with that.” Alcohol-induced giggle leaving her lips as Cher looks around the room. It was a damn good party. And it was mostly because of her! Another flawless Horowitz’s work. “Stop worrying for half a second, Cam. This is fun! You should be enjoying your party. Here. What’s this?” Making a face when the blonde gets a hold of his beer and smells the beverage, Cher hands Cameron her own red cup for him to drink. Apparently, she has one last person to take care of before she can fully focus on herself.

the party’s in full swing. an engaging and trendy playlist thumps from the frye family speakers, kids - mostly strangers to him - drink expensive mixed drinks from red plastic cups, and cameron is currently chasing a headache reliever with a swig of lukewarm beer. the hand that’s been pressed anxiously against his forehead for much of the night reaches out when he gets a passing glimpse of a familiar face.
“cher, jesus. where’ve you been?” likely filling in as hostess while cameron fretted. “y’know i think i heard somethin’ breaking a second ago and it triggered a vivid epiphany as to how deeply i’m going to regret all this.”

Did she trust Jake? Of course she did, he was her friend. He could do some messed up things at times, but never going beyond a prank that maybe got too far. Not killing someone. There seemed to be a big distance between one thing and the other. “No, of course not, I mean, we don’t even know if what you have over yourself is... Is it blood?” Had he checked? Emma couldn’t recall. They had been so caught up with getting out of there, avoiding the police, talking about a... professor, for some reason, that they had barely any time to think about any of that logically. “I know you didn’t do it, I’m just wondering why would someone spray-paint the word ‘killer’ in your car.” Maybe it was just someone pranking Jake. Or maybe iit had been the killer, to throw people off and use Jake as a scapegoat. The killer. Jake was right, she had seen someone, extremely suspicious, earlier in the woods. Maybe it was better to just get inside the house and think about all of that once they were safe. Thinking about those things made Emma feel the chilly air of the night more intensely.
Starting to walk towards the inside of Jake’s enourmous house, Emma took her phone from her pocket, trying to get her signal back. “My phone isn’t working. We should call the police, say we saw someone near the party wearing a mask and a bloody knife.” Emma was saying what she was supposed to say, but she knew how would the police take her story. She was talking about a frat party made in a famous’ killer’s house. Of course there would be assholes with masks and (fake) knives. But Emma felt like she had to call anyway, just to be sure. What if (God didn’t let it) there were right? And there was an actual killer who harmed people at the party, for real? Then the police needed to be warned, even if they didn’t take their words seriously. As far as they knew, the situation was just some college students partying a little too loud; they had to know there was something else going on. “Maybe you should shower, in case the police decides to drop by.”

Her friends would understand; they knew Cher, and how much this mattered to her (whatever ‘ this ‘ was.). One hand fixing her hair, she tries shaking a little the insecurities that seem to be filling her head. She knew what she was doing. Everything was under control. Then why was she feeling so nervious? Did she actually like Bender? Well, he was a cutie, that was for sure, but it wasn’t just that. Deciding that finding the source of her worryness isn’t as important as keeping the game up, Cher turned her attention back to John, nodding slightly.
“ Right. “ There's a brief moment of hesitation, that ends with Cher finally taking Bender’s hand. That’s what she wants, isn’t it? And there it was, being offered to her in a silver platter. Then why wasn’t she able to enjoy it? Maybe because Cher knew Bender wanted to take advantage of her. Oh, what a wonderful, ignorant bliss would it be to not know it, but it’s impossible to ignore. He’s just playing nice because he wants to see her naked, get lucky. But she likes the attention, so Cher doesn’t complain. Instead, Cher just takes his hand, playing the role of ditzy blonde he probably wants her to take. There would always be time to clear any misunderstanding later; after he introduced her to some people. “Thought you would want me only to yourself.” Finally able to let go a little, Cher let Bender guide her through the sea of people and drunkness, even managing to smile a little at her own attempt of flirting.

He had never been with an herbalist before. It was an awful way to think about future romantic interests, but it was the first thing that came to Gabriel’s mind, and it was true; he tended to be around witches and warlocks of the higher society, and everyone knew most of them preferred more prestigious classes, such as necromancy or demonology. It seemed exactly like the type of comment that would make Finn’s cheek turn that lovely shade of red he had discovered to find so appealing, but Gabriel decided that it would be a little too much, even for him. Instead, he politely smiled, an easy laugh coming from his lips from his comment. It seemed so easy to be in a good mood near Finn. Before he could realize, an hour had flown by, and Gabriel had downed two drinks. “Well, it’s getting late, and I wouldn’t want to... keep you. Someone like you must have lots of important things to do a Tuesday night.” The fact that he looked at Finn’s lips the whole time he was speaking definitely sent mixed signals, but surprisingly enough Gabriel didn’t know if it would be the right time to make a move. Sure, he seemed interested, and it’s not like he lacked the confidence, but Finn also seemed extremely shy, and Gabriel didn’t want to make him uncomfortable. Maybe it would be better to just wait to a second date.

“Are you saying that Ivy Leagues don’t consider ‘secret bar managment’ as an extracurricular?” Matthew joked back, as they walked down the hall. Even if he didn’t whisper, Matthew was sure to not scream the fact that Veronica was in charge of a bar where there were some activities that weren’t completely... legal. Better be safe than sorry, right? The last thing he needed was to get Ronnie in trouble for not being careful enough while joking.

Bianca wasn’t running through the halls, but she was definitely walking as quickly as possible. Crashing into someone else seemed something inevitable, the books she was carrying falling to the floor and making a little obvious why she was going that fast. She had permission to have those books, about Lilith and White magic, but then why was she walking so fast?  Bianca was about to apologize, when she realized exactly who had she stumbled upon. Shit. “Faustus. Long time no see.” Ever since the classes had started again Bianca had done everything possible to avoid him. Trying to divert the attention from the books laying on the floor as she picked them up seemed to be the best idea to avoid any unpleasant situations. “Have you abused your power as a Head Boy yet, or are you waiting for a special occasion?” Even if her words were as sharp as before the whole incident, there was something in her tone, and the way that Bianca avoided his eyes a little that showed how wasn’t nearly as aggressive as before the winter break.

“What?” Emma tried to make sense of Jake’s words, but nothing of what he was saying seemed rational. “You told me Brooke and Riley left the party when we first found each other after the blackout. Why would they be with... What would Mr. Burke be doing here? Are you sure you saw that?” Emma didn’t want to tell Jake that he was imagining things, not after he had shown that he believed her when Emma told him about the killer in the woods, but for an odd reason, a killer somehow made more sense than the scene he was describing. When did their lives turn into that, where a killer with a bloody knife stalking them seemed more rational than seeing Brooke and Riley in a car in the road? But it wasn’t that what didn’t make sense. It was Brooke cheating on Jake what sounded irrational, especially in that situation.
Arriving to Jake’s house served to calm Emma, at least mildly, but even if knowing there was someone else there should’ve served for Emma to stop worrying as much as she was, it only did the opposite. In one hand, there was safety in numbers. In the other, Emma couldn’t bring herself to trust anyone, at least anyone but Jake. Her trust in him, however, wavered a little when she got off his truck, heading inside the house. Looking back at Jake, about to tell him something probably unimportant, Emma saw what was written in his car. Even if at first she was hesitant to jump to conclusions - it was dark and she was obviously not in her best state of mind -, she finally saw the word undoubtedly written there. “Jake... why did someone write ‘Killer’ in your truck?”
