Not me collecting all the smug emotes for Kendo Boy can't flirt worth a dime since he had no interest in dating for the longest time until Hope, and he really isn't cocky since he is so hard on himself throughout his story. But my goodness, the boy has the most natural smug looks, it kills me🤣
#⚔️: the ronin warrior ( kendo )#&&. it's just so funny that he probably doesn't even realize he may be pulling off such a look like#&&. that's his natural face LOL

Baby Brother has finally come to realize that Daigo is still there and needs help🥺 Especially since I headcanon that Kendo only calls him "Mask Maker" when he doesn't believe there is anything left in the corrupted shell of a body. And it would make sense he still has no clue about the Spires, especially since Jade can't get the sprites to tell her anything. Though I'm sure Mizzy will have more thoughts about that when she is able!

Here comes Jade to give her younger brother a tight, warm hug. / @cursedguardian !!
Their home above the mask shop was QUIET. Such a stark difference from when Jade was missing compared to Daigo's. There was an almost...eeriness to it that Kendo couldn't explain. While Jade left the house far too quiet without her colorful exuberance, their older brother on the other hand...
A pillar of their family had been knocked over. A silent crash that still echoed through the hearts of the siblings.
Daigo was their protector since childhood, his hero. Jade's hero...
He had been lost ever since he saved Jade and there hasn't been any leads since Shogun X's defeat. HE TRIED to look and continued to do so. That was weeks ago, but the fight still played on repeat in Kendo's head. It taunted and mocked at him on repeat. He failed to keep his family altogether. It pointed a long claw at his guilt. Of being held back while his brother fought for his life.
His chest burned as these memories ravaged his mind. He had been quieter than his usual reserved normal for the last few days due to spiraling thoughts . He wanted nothing more than to exact revenge on the demon who ordered this.
He walked in a BIT later that night, having not been able to stand being at home... especially while the mask shop below felt like the shop of a thousand ghosts. The displayed items are always Staring. Judging. Angry.
The fact he had to walk through it in order to go upstairs...it felt like he was being constantly watched to make some mistake.
But the surprise hug after he walked through the upstair's door made Kendo gasp. It was as if, for a brief moment, his body remembered that it had been on the edge all day. And now the hug given from his older sister was a wake-up call that he was exhausted. Tired.
A reminder that she is okay, at least. She is back home.
"It's okay...." He hugged back with the same tightness. A bear hug, as if he could somehow protect her from her own guilt-ridden thoughts that ailed her. "I'm still here, Sister."

The explosion of Daigo's magic against his chest was dark. Cold. Even beneath the armor that donned his body, there was a sharp chill that collided with Kendo's very soul. Or was that from the force of his body hitting against the cliff that towered behind them all? Or perhaps it was an invisible icy blade of betrayal that sliced against his heart, threatening to fester and tear larger with time. His brother just ATTACKED him with magic.
A sharp gasp and a grunt indicated his breath was stolen away, and his form slid onto the ground in a coughing fit. Crumbles of gravel dislodged and dusted upon his head and shoulders, but he stubbornly found his way back to his feet. Thankfully the young warrior was unharmed physically - his professional armor for demon hunting came in clutch. If he was felled by one little hit, then how could he call himself a protector. This was nothing to him, and he gave Jade a signal to show that he was okay.
But it was his sister's turn to approach and Kendo sharply watched with a hand on the hilt of his blade. He marched slowly closer, but something else NAILED his own feet into the ground to stop him at a respectable distance. There was an urge to keep her safe, but he needed to show some restraint with this situation. Kendo is very much aware that they hold an unbreakable bond. If ANYONE could get his brother to come to his sense, it would be her.
Daigo would...could never hurt her.
Dark, furrowed gaze held onto Daigo's features, which wasn't a lot to look at considering the mask the eldest wore. That fierce gaze his brother had however... there was something dark and haunting that unnerved Kendo. Jade always SAW the best in their brother; a hope she clung onto after she escaped her prolonged expedition in the spirit realm. She is VALID in her feelings, because the warrior now understood his brother did what he thought was best. Hell, he fought Shogun X and bested the commander to save her, a terrific feat in Daigo's own right.
If only it was possible for him to hold onto that hope. Something was OFF. Why didn't his brother STOP or come home? Why did he ally himself with a WOLF that would’ve destroyed the island with his greed. If he wanted to protect the island, this was a HORRID way to show it. But all Kendo could do in this moment was watch with a fiercely observant gaze.
ONE THING HE NOTICED as the baron took the fall, was that the portal was still humming. the power of it continued on with swirls and gleams and it taunted daigo as he had started his path elsewhere. i'm ready; it sang to him, forcing his feet to still, where his heart thudded and his head POUNDED. something beckoned him, called him. ever since he had defeated shogun x, that headache swelled and ebbed, a tide of chaos and fury in his mind where thoughts raged a story he couldn't weave yet. it sought him. he didn't know why other than the belief that it was h i m who it felt threatened by. it was him who could stand between the dark presence and his home, this island. his family. i have to do this.
when he had been lost and recovering, the darkness had laughed at him. how close he had been but how far off he still was. jade was safe for now, but it would never leave their family alone. her connection to the island... the pain she had endured while cursed. the eldest still felt the rage like a small stone in the pit of his stomach that smoldered with fiery intensity. leaving him boiling constantly, desiring nothing more than to rip this beast apart that had d a r e d to cause her even an ounce of suffering. no one was allowed to touch jade without her permission - a rule he had always enforced. he trusted kendo to be stronger against a physical assault, but there was a truth that daigo knew deeply. if he and jade were gone, kendo would be vulnerable.
despite the judgement the brother would pass, he never saw his youngest sibling as weak. naïve, too tender. but that wasn't weakness.
dark eyes were plastered to the portal. it sang louder. it was nearly there. he couldn't leave. not now. not just because they were there... and without baron now... his opportunities were waning.
jade is back. yes. he could see. it had made him ache every day he had been isolated or stuck with that loud, egomaniacal wolf to not have her there. to not hug her, to not hear her laugh. daigo... his emotions were ALWAYS haywire on him, but if anything made sense to him it was her. his sister, his rock, his foundation. he loved her, he knew that. he loved kendo, too, but just in a way he couldn't comprehend or express due to complicated tides of their growth. jade's affections had been far easier to understand and reciprocate. oh, how he had wanted to slip home and just... talk to her. he needed her, but he couldn't relent to that. if he did, the dark presence would feed off his failures.
though never the most muscled of his siblings, there were signs if one paid close mind: he hadn't eaten well. it occurred to him over the course of time how much he appreciated kendo's lunches and jade's gifts of snacks. his tone had thinned even more... strengthened by training and resolve but with gaunt features that looked far too haunted beneath his mask. haunted by knowing, haunted by fear he paid no attention to... it still existed regardless, existed as much as the hunger of his focus DESTROYING him in multiple ways did. still, not a second would pass where he didn't see his commitment as sacrifice for the sake of preservation. he would succeed because he had to.
he wouldn't apologize, he couldn't. they're understand. they'd forgive him. eventually.
but... he wanted to turn and run to her. prove to himself she actually was okay. if only life were so simple. if only kendo would support him instead of question his every fucking move. it was for them.
and then that touch. his entire attention had returned to the portal. his magic was being gathered. he... he had to. it was now or never. it stirred his entire being, darkness gathering at his fingertips, at the touches of his eyes, in every limb, coiling ice and clawing shadows. until that touch. it was everything he hated in that moment, because daigo couldn't get to the spirit realm while he was bound to this one. through damned things called love and family and... ironically, hope. hope was the cause and the effect of e v e r y t h i n g. he had to utilize it, but it was the dangerous entity preventing his heart from leaping too far.
he turned, magic brushing out of his being as he violently shoved kendo back, needing to just be alone, to be distanced, to be freed from these ties that kept him here... distractions. annoyances...
but as soon as his brother was launched, the eldest's focus saw jade. there. close. a reminder, a spark of light he hadn't seen in so long. the fury imploding himself died away long enough that the flicker of agony he felt could be seen in his gaze - the one thing visible from the mask. he couldn't hurt her... and he couldn't hurt kendo. not really. if only for jade's sake. though no apology would leave him for what he had just done, he did concern himself to ensure he hadn't done treacherous damage, but he began to step backwards to shrink the gap between him and his mission.
"...stay back." he seemed to register kendo's warning. or scolding. whichever, it didn't matter. the lack of tone in daigo's voice wasn't UNUSUAL. and the apathy returned to his gaze. shut off, shut away. it's the only way to get into the spirit realm. the only way to face the darkness ( the only way to be vulnerable to the monster lurking there, giving in to exactly what it wanted ). "i am not breaking things. i intend to fix them. to protect our home. to protect... you. don’t make me ask again."

if Kendo does somehow find a master/teacher, I feel like he would struggle with it much more than he would like to believe. Kendo would've been a great student if he was given that chance early on. But since he couldn't fit into a mold so easily, he was failed by past teachers and given up on. (However, with Daigo, it is a different story since they both agreed that his method of training wasn't working. Kendo doesn't fault his brother for that, even if the decision was made in their anger.) But upon finding a teacher, Kendo will immediately put unreasonably high expectations on himself. He will snap and be defensive if the young warrior thinks he is being judged harshly. But honestly, he is harshly judging himself and Internally fearful he will be tossed aside again. To be another failure - He is practically labeling himself that even if he doesn't truly realize it. I also think he is unaware he has a general distrust in teachers despite WANTING one. And it doesn't help that he had to resort to self-teaching himself, so the fact that everything he learned and upheld during his time away from teachers might be questioned?? He is already being called unpracticed by some of the general public, He doesn't like to feel as if his hard-work was a waste of time all along. It's going to have to take a patient but a very firm teacher in order to break through the protective barrier Kendo put around himself.

Due to Jade's abilities to sew, the denim fabric tied around Kendo's waist is full of her handy work. Whenever he gets a tear from his training, or other rough activities that could scuff it up, she is the one that will eventually tend to it. Recently, she added a patch ( a pickle with a smiley face ) on the back as a surprise. When Kendo went to playfully interrogate his sister of the silly gift, he was pleasantly amused to learn it was a connection to his buddy, Tomoki. Pickles are the oni's favorite treat after all! As time goes on, he will be surprised with a patch of the supernova stars ( because he will eventually help Hope with the new heroes of the academy), and a little black cat patch (Hope!).

I just wanted to highly emphasize one of the things Kendo can do that I was actually able to pull off in game. As shown, he is actually able to slide, take aim, and fire, all at the same time in his canon. Which showcase a strong and steady arm posture, even within movement. Also...Brother and Sister taking down a demon together 😌
#⚔️: the ronin warrior ( kendo )#&&. I am FULLY aware it's a bot though/ but the bot was shogun x#&&. a BIG enemy of theirs after Daigo's fight so#&&. It was just a fun showcase to show off some of Kendo's actual strength properly LMAO

How you need to be touched?
cautiously.
your teeth are bared, as they have been, your jaw aching for so long as growls slip free. you always have to defend yourself. you lash out in fear. you need someone who does not shrink back… a hand falling slowly to your shoulder, however briefly, in a reminder that you do not have to lunge. there is no danger here, now.

Man the dialogue this season REALLY went into my gut like a knife 😭. Kendo is at his lowest of lows right now, but trying his best to hold himself together since there is no time to process or truly mourn what was lost. Reminder he is 18 rn and having to grow up so quickly, but getting so lost in the process.
