HHVM sends PHP websites into the fast lane
Over 80% of all websites worldwide are operated with PHP.
The quick entry into the programming language ensures a great popularity among programmers. Whether quick&dirty or clean object-oriented. Everything is possible.
Large CMS or store systems use PHP. Modules for various database systems are available to manage data from PHP.
With almost every PHP update the programming language became faster but to run large stores with thousands of single PHP files the necessary performance is still missing. Because in the net applies: The faster a page, the lower the bounce rate of visitors.
So every millisecond is haggled over.
There are different approaches to increase the speed of PHP applications:
Optimizing code Caching of data Caching of code We assume that the code runs optimally because we only want to deal with 1 and 2.
Caching of data
There are several ways to cache data. Applications store data in the file system or memory and access them to not have to compute them again. Memcached is often used for this purpose. PHP can use Memcached to store data in RAM and access it very fast.
Varnish is also a popular page cache. With this, web pages do not need to be recalculated every time they are called, but are delivered from a cache.
Code caching
A PHP file is translated into a bytecode before each execution. If a PHP file is used frequently, this bytecode can be cached to save the time of translation (OpCode Cache).
The PHP accelerators can, in addition to caching the bytecode, also perform optimizations and increase the speed even more. There are different OpCode caches (eAccelerator, APC, Zend OpCache).
So what is HHVM? HHVM (HipHopVirtualMachine) is a standalone program that first translates PHP files into ByteCode (HHBC). This ByteCode is dynamically compiled into machine code at runtime by a Jit compiler. Because HHVM has its own PHP implementation not all functions of the normal PHP version are supported.
This way a PHP application within HHVM can run much faster and more resource efficient than within a normal PHP interpreter.
Do you want to use a HHVM server? No problem. On our Root-, Managed-, SVN- and Git- as well as Shophosting Servers we can set up a HHVM for you.

Checklist domain transfer
Anyone who has a web hosting package needs a domain so that the websites are accessible.
The domains are managed by a central registry. For .de domains, for example, this is done by Denic. If someone wants to have a domain e.g. meinname.de, this domain can be rented from Denic for an annual fee. This is usually done with the hoster who also rents the web package. The hoster then connects the domain with the storage space so that a call of the domain in the web browser then also leads to your storage space.
A domain is only rented and not bought i.e. in case of problems (e.g. trademark infringement) the registrar can get the domain back from you.
If you are no longer satisfied with the services of your hoster, but want to keep the domain, you can also move the domain to another hoster. For this move there are some things to consider to guarantee a fast and smooth transfer.
Checklist for a successful domain transfer So that you have no problems with the move, we have put together a checklist for you:
Always make sure that the data you have on file with the domain registrar is up to date (email address, address, phone). Some registries will send you a confirmation email when you move. If this is not processed, an automatic move is not possible and it may be necessary for you to authorize the move by fax. Get the AuthCode of your domain from your old web host. Many registries offer automatic domain transfer via AuthCodes. You authorize yourself to the registry via this AuthCode. After point 1 and 2 are done, you can order the new package. Email addresses in the new package as well as websites to be moved to the new space Start domain transfer by the new hoster. A domain transfer takes a few hours to a few days, depending on the registrar. Since several agencies have to cooperate in a domain transfer, there may be waiting times. After the domain transfer has been started, the data of the old web hoster will be deleted from the domain and the new provider of your web package will be entered into the domain so that the new location will be called up in the browser.
This process (change of DNS data) can take several hours. The registry changes the DNS data and the various ISPs retrieve this data at regular intervals. So it can be that some reach the website ebreits on the new server and others still land on the old server. Usually, however, the process is completed within 24 hours and all should reach the site at the new provider.
Possible problems with domain moves The address data of the domain is not correct. Confirmation mails could therefore not be received and processed. Contact your new provider for your web package. He can provide you with fax forms to authorize the domain transfer manually. The old hoster does not give out the AuthCode. It may happen that the old web hoster is no longer available and therefore you cannot get the AuthCode. In this case, some registries offer the possibility to get the AuthCode via your new web hoster. There may be extra costs for this. The AuthCode is not correct AuthCodes are usually only valid for a few weeks.
