Moving Image Evaluation
The moving image project consisted of researching a variety of inspiring adverts, moving image technqiues, making a storyboard and creating a 60 second video. I found this project quite challenging at first but I ended up enjoying it quite a lot especially when it came to editing my video together. Moving image techniques is something that I have researched and learned from in this project and has given me the knowledge of when to use the correct camera shot for certain scenes. Using video editing softwares such as Premiere Rush is something that I had never used before and it was fairly straight forward  colour balancing, adjusting my clips and putting my video together. Reflecting back upon my final video, I would have liked to use a steadier, heavier tripod when it came to long shots as I was using a zoom lens that was increasing the shake in my clips on a fairly windy day. I would have liked to use a drone for some aerial footage of the waves but I didn't have access to one. Overall I feel like I am happy with my final video and have met the brief requirements for this project.

Structure Evaluation
The project “Structure” consisted of scouting a structure to explore, discover its architectural qualities and create a presentation of 5 final images of the building. I found Structure quite enjoyable as I find architectural photography interesting and fun to shoot. My favourite part of the project was going out and shooting my building with different lenses. I used a variety of lenses such as my own kit lens, a wide angle and zoom lens for my images. New techniques I have learned is how to retouch my images to make them cleaner and how to perspective correct my images. I feel like these techniques have had a positive impact on my final images as I think they are much stronger than my original files. Problems that I encountered were mostly weather issues. A lot of the time, the weather was overcast and grey. I feel like I overcame this problem as I actually used some overcast images because it suited the tone of my structure. The sky is quite over exposed in a few of my final images which I tried to fix but I feel like my images still go well together as a series. I was originally going to present my images on Flipsnack, but I felt that it wasn't going to showcase my series of images well together if they were on separate pages. Putting my images onto a Photoshop canvas was a good decision for my images to come together as a whole and I feel like I have met the requirements for the structure brief.

Structure Before and After Optimisation
Tumblr media
For my first structure final image I decided to choose a vertical shot of the south face of the building. I wanted to show the scale of the structure, so I waited for the right time to shoot as the couple were passing by in front. I imported my image into Camera RAW to adjust the temperature and exposure. I then brought it into Photoshop to optimise further, using perspective correction and clone stamp to clean up dirt and remove pedestrians in the background.
Final Image 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For this detailed shot of the building I imported it into Camera RAW, made some similar adjustments like the image above so they match well together. I took this into Photoshop to Clone stamp some dirt off the building so it looked clean and minimalistic.
Final Image 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For this image I imported it into Camera RAW. I made slight adjustments such as the temperature and vertical correction so the windows weren't slanted. I took this into Photoshop to make a lot of retouching adjustments using the clone stamp tool. I removed certain parts such as a door frame in the wall, a pole, reflections in the window and dirt on the concrete seating area. I wanted this image to look clean and minimalistic.
Final Image 3

This image was taken into Camera RAW to correct the chromatic aberration that was visible in this image. I also adjusted the temperature to make it cooler toned to match the rest of my optimised images.
Final Image 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For my final image which was a wide shot of the whole building, I lowered the temperature and cropped it in to get rid of unwanted space. I imported this into Photoshop to use Content aware fill to get rid of the distracting building that is behind the structure. I also used the clone stamp tool to clean up any dirt that was on the right wall in the foreground.

Structure Presentation Options
Adobe Spark Web Page
Adobe spark has a variety of different templates for your work to be presented such as instagram stories/posts, photo collage, presentation and slideshow. There is also a custom template option for you to create yourself.
Tumblr media
PDF
PDF format can be used to present your images on. I feel like this isn't the choice for me as I don't think it will show off my final images well enough together.
Tumblr media

Photoshop Canvas
Photoshop canvas is a great way to showcase your images as a whole. I think you can get more freedom to place your images wherever you want instead of using a ready made template option. I think photoshop canvas will be my choice of presenting my images as I think they will match each other well close together.

Flipsnack Zine
Flipsnack is a presentation option I have used before to show my images in a professional zine format. I think Flipsnack would be a good option for my Structure final images to showcase them through an online magazine.

3 Inspiring Moving Image Adverts
"Acqua di Gioia" with Emily Didonato Fragrance by Giorgio Armani
youtube
This advertisement was published onto Youtube for commercial purposes. Techniques in this video were shots such as aerial, panning, extreme close up, medium/long shots and slow motion. The creator has used cool tone colour grading to emphasise the mood of the video which I think is delicate and mysterious. There was use of sound which was elegant piano that added to the locations in the advert. I think this video was successful in communicating the brand as there was a consistency in colour which matches the fragrance bottle at the end.
Christy Turlington and Edward Burns for Eternity | CALVIN KLEIN
youtube
This advert was published onto the Calvin Klein YouTube channel for commercial purposes. Techniques in this video were shots such as birds eye, long shots, close ups, medium shots, reflection shots and slow motion. The creator has used a variety of black and white/colour graded shots which I think emphasises the romantic mood for this advertisement. The use of slow, romantic music also helped communicate the brands fragrance “Eternity”.
Acqua Di Gio Pour Homme by Giorgio Armani
youtube
This advert was published onto Sephoras YouTube channel for online commercial purposes. This advert shows techniques such as close ups, slow motion, medium shots, time lapse and birds eye. The creator has used black and white for this advert and I think it helps the emphasise the elegance of the fragrance. The creator has added music to the advert which suits the shots used.

Moving Image Techniques - Equipment for steady footage
Video Tripod
A video tripod will provide you with a longer control arm that'll allow you to be very precise with your movements. Video tripods also tend to have longer top plates than photo tripods, which allows for more flexibility with camera positioning and weight distribution.
Tumblr media
Gimbal
A gimbal is a tool that uses motors and intelligent sensors to support and stabilise a camera, meaning you can film smooth video footage while on the move.
Tumblr media
Dolly
A camera dolly is a wheeled device that creates smooth camera movements for films and videos. Platform dollies are a traditional design that features a wide, flat surface where you mount the camera. They usually have handles used by the camera operator, grip, or camera assistant to push or pull the dolly.

Moving Image Techniques - Compositions
Composition refers to the way elements of a scene are arranged in a camera frame. Shot composition refers to the arrangement of visual elements to convey an intended message.
Tumblr media
Long shot
Long shots (also commonly called Wide shots) show the subject from a distance, emphasising place and location, while Close shots reveal details of the subject and highlight emotions of a character.
Tumblr media
Medium shot
Medium Shot Shows part of the subject in more detail. For a person, a medium shot typically frames them from about waist up. This is one of the most common shots seen in films, as it focuses on a character (or characters) in a scene while still showing some environment.
Tumblr media
Close up
Close-Up Fills the screen with part of the subject, such as a person's head/face. Framed this tightly, the emotions and reaction of a character dominate the scene. Extreme Close Up Emphasises a small area or detail of the subject, such as the eyes or mouth.
Tumblr media
POV
A point of view shot (also known as POV shot, first-person shot or a subjective camera) is a short film scene that shows what a character or object is looking at (represented through the camera).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Birds eye
In filmmaking and video production, a bird's-eye shot refers to a shot looking directly down on the subject. The perspective is very foreshortened, making the subject appear short and squat.

Moving Image Techniques - Camera Movements
A camera movement refers to the way a camera shifts to visually narrate and shape a viewer’s perspective of a scene. In the world of film and video, there are several basic and advanced camera movements that can help enhance your story. When you move a camera a certain way, it can also alter the narrative of the story you’re trying to tell and the delivery of the content you’re presenting. Effective and well-placed camera movements make for a professional-quality final product.
Panning
Panning is a camera movement where the camera pivots left or right on a horizontal axis while its base remains in a fixed location. A pan allows the audience to see more of the scene. Camera panning establishes the location, and also tracks the movement of the characters or objects within that location.
Tilt
A camera tilt is a vertical movement in which the camera base remains in a fixed location while the camera pivots vertically. Tilting is useful for establishing shots that contain tall vertical scenery or introducing a character in a dramatic fashion.
Zoom
A zoom shot is when the focal length of a camera lens is adjusted to give the illusion of moving closer or further away from the subject. Zoom shots are done with a zoom lens, which have variable focal lengths.
Tracking
A tracking shot is any shot in which the camera physically moves sideways, forward, or backward through the scene. Tracking shots usually last longer than other shots, follow one or more moving subjects, and immerse the audience in a particular setting.
Dolly
A dolly shot is a specific kind of tracking shot where we follow a subject on an apparatus called a dolly. A dolly is a cart that the camera is mounted on, which rolls along dolly track or on its own wheels. Dolly shots are designed to be smooth and controlled camera movements.
Pull Focus
"Pulling focus" or "rack focusing" refers to the act of changing the lens's focus distance setting in correspondence to a moving subject's physical distance from the focal plane, or the changing distance between a stationary object and a moving camera.
