A Game Of Thrones - Prologue
...in which we meet Ser Waymar Royce and get our first look at the others.
It may have taken me a while and my scanner decided to stop working halfway through but I finally managed to complete my first picture. I feel like I still have a lot to learn but drawing it was surprisingly fun. I’ll share some more of my thoughts under the cut.
Feel free to give me some feedback or talk to me about general asoiaf topics. After all, this would be a pretty boring blog if it only consisted of me sporadically uploading fanart every few months!
My drawing experience so far:
- I decided to keep it simple for now and use only a pencil because I felt like it would be easier for me to focus on the line art first instead of distracting myself with coloring, which seems to be a very complex topic. Once I get confident with the outlines, I’ll move to colors. That’s also why I didn’t draw a background.
- I don’t know much about human proportions but I think drawing a fictional creature might have benefitted me here because there were no fixed proportions that I could mess up. But it’s definitely something that I’ll have to focus on when I start drawing actual people.
- I tried to make the Other look the way I imagined them when I first read the books: beautiful but also foreign and dangerous, like some type of insect or alien. The armor is described to be reflecting the lights around it and works as sort of a camouflage (but I had no idea how to shade something like that). Their swords are so thin that they are almost invisible from the side.

Welcome!
As you can probably already tell from the title, I have created this tumblr because I have been wanting  to learn to draw for a long time now and I think this blog might be a good way to keep me motivated. A warning in advance: I haven’t really drawn anything since elementary school so you might be in for a wild ride... But I have always been reading a lot, mainly historical fiction or fantasy literature. Looking at fanart is very impressive and often my first thought was: “Wow, I could never draw something like this!” But on the other hand: you need practice to become a good artist and I need to start somewhere. “A Song of Ice and Fire” is one of my favourite fantasy series and I have pretty clear mental images of characters and scenes when reading about them. That’s why I decided to start drawing scenes from the books starting with AGOT. I’d like to go through the story roughly chronologically, let’s see how that goes...
