Seven years ago, Lisa Kaselak (who was not yet my wife) and I had our first chance to collaborate on what became known as the Sea of Me installation. At the time, she was teaching convergent media at SMU and we challenged ourselves to develop an art installation that would bring physical and digital together in a unique way.
This was my first exploration into the colliding worlds of digital and physical and would become central to my career path. It also launched Beak Labs, a company we started that brought us Microsoft, Mozilla, Spotify, Bose, and Twitter as clients.
Everyday, we make decisions, some of which end up completely changing our life course, usually unbeknownst to us at the time. This project was definitely one of those times for us. I'm thankful for the opportunities this created, and discovering what a joy it is to work and create with my partner.
This is a video that Microsoft put together for us. Since the technology sunsetted years ago, it's the only way to see it.
