But I care about the present: Islam and his family are not eating these days. There's a real famine happening. His mom desperately needs urgent medical care after chemo treatments were completely stopped across Gaza.

Why is everyone ignoring me? I’m here so someone can hear me. Does anyone see us? Why are you ignoring the rescue of 10 people from my family? Is that so hard for you? Did you think about what my sister Soso, who’s only 4 years old, is going through? Did you imagine what if she were your daughter or sister?! What would you do in that situation? Every dollar you give now is saving our lives a little longer. Please don’t abandon my family. This famine, this extermination, this hell has destroyed me. I’ve been drained completely.

I am constantly hurt by the callousness with which people dismiss the harm of restricting adult content and porn, only concerned about the knock-on effects for queer people and radical political groups. Sex workers ourselves matter just as much as non sex working queer people and leftists.

We are not canaries in the coal mine whose deaths you can dismiss while you frame groups you actually care about as the sole human casualties of these policies. I need you to care that laws like the Online Safety Act lead sex workers to have to return to abusive third parties to find clients or to work in brothels we hate or to such poverty that we starve. I need you to care about payment processors refusing to pay out for adult content because it means sex workers cannot rely on online work when selling sex in-person becomes too much for our bodies or too risky.

Please care about sex workers' suffering, rather than only the fact your favourite queer game was de-listed from itch.io and that you have to use a VPN to access adult subreddits without giving your ID now.

Every day I am overwhelmed by the way almost everyone in the global north redefines health away from collective survival and toward promotion of individualism and eugenics.

People will talk about "hygiene" and they mean extensive skin care routines and cosmetics instead of preventing the spread of contagious diseases through requiring structural renovations for better ventilation of workplaces, schools, & public spaces and universal healthcare that includes easy, accessible, free testing & vaccinations.

People will talk about "nutrition" and they mean promoting expensive, restrictive diets dependent on imperial food systems and the promotion of anti-fat and anti-black policies, instead of doing anything to prevent the widespread nutrient deficiencies caused by our government's deliberate, ongoing starvation of Palestinian people.
