The BEST mystery cartoon that nobody has heard of

Hello folks!

Today, I wanted to provide you guys with an amazing cartoon recommendation! This is one especially for fans of shows like Gravity Falls! The cartoon is one from the early 2010s called Detentionaire! 

It’s about a high school student named Lee, who, on his first day of tenth grade, gets framed for a huge prank and gets detention for a whole year. Now, he spends every day trying to find out who set him up. However, he soon realizes that the prank was a small component to a huge conspiracy that involves government projects, clones, prophesied events, monsters and even his own family.

If you love shows like Gravity Falls, I would definitely check it out! It is quite similar in terms of the amount of mystery it has in it, and it has a lot of lore. If I were to describe it in any way, I would say it is what you get when you combine Gravity Falls with Total Drama - the characters are all teenagers, but the show has an overarching mystery, and it gets more and more paranormal as it goes on.

One thing I will say is that the first few episodes are a bit slow, which may turn some away, but once it picks up, it is amazing. It is definitely one of the best cartoons of the 2010s, and it deserves more attention, so if you are looking for a new cartoon, I’d check it out!

Detentionaire was a series which was screwed over by the network, and this led to it not being too well known. As a fan, I would love nothing more than to see it grow in terms of popularity, and I would also love to give more shows a shot as so many get swept under the radar!

Thanks to @chillguydraws, here’s the other Lee/Luna child, Luke Loud-Ping, Lian’s twin brother. He could be perceived as the odd-one-out in the immediate family due to him having more of an affinity to rap and hip-hop. In order to build up his “street cred”, he got his own gold chain with an ornament shaped in the Hangul writing of his paternal family name and adopting the moniker “The Notorius L.L.P.”.

Project Detentionaire: Let’s do this! Let’s get Detentionaire back for a fifth season

Hello everyone! I thought I'd let you guys know that earlier this year in January, I started a fanmade organization with the sole purpose of getting Detentionaire back on the air. This project started out on Reddit, but we have expanded to Twitter, Discord and the wiki, and I think it’s about time we expand onto Tumblr too.

I think that we as a fandom have waited long enough for a new season, and while our fandom may be small, we definitely have the power to get the series back if we all band together. Now, you may be wondering why this will succeed as fans have pushed for a revival before, and have failed. Well, with this fanmade project I have started, we have already taken an almost dead subreddit, and in three months got over a hundred new people in, we have more than doubled the amount of signatures on the petition to get Detentionaire back (was at 300, but now at 750), and we have even been able to get confirmation that the series will be coming to Netflix later this year thanks to a distribution company known as FilmRise TV, which I am sure that most of you have heard about. I have also started a Detentionaire TIktok page that has gained 3000 followers over these past few months, and has been able to get a Tiktok with over 100,000 views. Accomplishing all of this within three months really shows that the plan does have potential.

Secondly, there’s a petition to get the series back, and the amount of signatures has been going up tremendously lately. While there was another petition that was unfortunately shut down, that one only did not work because there were not enough signatures for it to be taken into consideration by Nelvana. Now, in order for this one to work, we will need as many signatures as we can get before submission, which is why we need as many fans as we can find to sign it. The good news is that as petitions get more signatures, they get sent out to more people due to Change.org’s algorithm. Therefore, after our initial push, the algorithms will do most of the work for us.

There is also a form on Netflix’s website to request TV shows, and myself and the rest of the revival team have gotten over 130 requests sent to Netflix, which is likely why they decided to air the series on Netflix. This feature is underutilized, so even with a few requests, Netflix does notice which TV shows are in demand. Now, even though Detentionaire is already coming to Netflix, it is likely that Netflix will invest in promoting the series through their social media page and even put it on the featured section if enough people demand it. Therefore, if we could keep on pushing in requests, Netflix may promote the series for us, ensuring it succeeds. I will link the form underneath. Make sure you are logged into your Netflix account when you do fill it out, otherwise Netflix will ignore the request.

Now, there is a lot that we are doing with this Detentionaire revival project, but if I list all the different ways that you can help us out, this blog would be quite long. One thing I have always love about Detentionaire is that the characters all come from diverse backgrounds.

Okay, so it's May

I can't believe I forgot what month May is. If you don't know, it's Asian & Pacific American Heritage month. Unfortunately, I couldn't find many shows with leads that are from the Pacific Islands, and I also think that Asians and Pacific Islanders are two separate groups.

With that said, here's a list of 10 Western TV shows with Asian leads:

Detentionaire - Mystery, the protagonist's nationality is Korean but there are many Chinese elements to him, so he's probably mixed. His love interest is also Chinese

Kipo And The Age Of Wonderbeasts - I think this is a fantasy or sci fi or a mix, I haven't finished watching yet, but I know that the main character is half black and half Asian

Andi Mack - Dramedy, I believe the main lead is mixed with Chinese and white

Shadow And Bone - Fantasy (???), one of the two leads is Asian

Never Have I Ever - Comedy (???), the lead is South Indian and one of her love interests is half Japanese

American Dragon: Jake Long - Fantasy, the MC is Chinese

Miraculous: Tales Of Ladybug And Chat Noir - Fantasy/Slice of life or something, I genuinely hate this show so much but I'm running out of options. Marinette is half Chinese

6teen - Slice Of Life, one of the six leads is Chinese

The Life And Times of Juniper Lee - Fantasy (???), Juniper Lee is Chinese

Fresh Off the Boat - Comedy, all of the leads are Taiwanese
