Although it isn’t quite as fast as it is within the game, Garreg Mach’s full-time residents are able to sustain themselves on the monastery’s greenhouse and pond alone, in no small thanks to the fountain of magic that spills out of the Holy Tomb.
Crest Stones are the very cores of Nabateans and contain an immense amount of magical energy, which is continually released over the dragon’s lifespan. Normally, a Nabatean’s death will occur once their Crest Stone becomes too fragile with age or strain to continue releasing energy, similar to heart failure in humans. When this occurs, the dragon’s body cannot sustain itself on the lower levels of environmental magic and will start to degrade, both mind and body degenerating before they ultimately perish.
However, the Crest Stones that are kept in the Holy Tomb and embedded in the Hero’s Relics have been separated from its owner well before their time, and still continue to release their energy into the environment. In the case of the Relics, the bones and sinew used to construct them continue to twitch and pulse with life. In the case of Garreg Mach Monastery, the environment becomes heavily saturated with magical energy.
This high saturation of magic in the environment is what causes the greenery around the monastery to grow at an accelerated rate, allowing a seed to sprout, flower, and fruit within two weeks. Animals that live within or consume prey from a magic-saturated environment will also experience an enhanced rate of growth, resulting in them maturing quicker and achieving sizes double or triple that of their normal brethren.
Naturally, this abundance of magic is explained as the Goddess bestowing her blessings upon the land. Luckily for the Church’s facade, the energy of Crest Stones aren’t something that can be easily detected by humans, and don’t affect humans as severely as it does flora and fauna.
(something something humans can use magic and animals can’t blah blah blah)

All dragons have a hoard, and Eithlinn’s hoard is anything that’s shiny.
There is a sizable stash of gold and precious metals hidden away in a cavern somewhere in the mountains, accumulated from centuries of picking money and weapons off frozen corpses, as well as offerings that were once left for her by the Sreng before Fraldarius occupied their lands.
The Aegis Dragon is particularly fond of staves, leading to stories of a Goddess-sent spirit who will follow and guard Her faithful nuns and bishops through the wind and snow.

“Since you’re here, do answer a question for me.“
This stretch of the monastery was typically bereft of students, save for a few who enjoyed gardening or fishing. The quietness suited Loscenn just fine, as did his duties of tending to the young shoots. Seeing somebody else in the greenhouse for once was surprising.
“Spicy fish and turnip stew, or Sweet and salty whitefish saute. Which one is more preferred?“

Aetna’s currently roasting a fish over an open fire.
Manaketes have the constitution necessary to eat and digest raw meat, but even so, cooking softened the flesh and made it easier to tear through with smaller, blunter teeth. It was something she picked up from the Nabatans and Agarthans long ago. She doesn’t like to admit that fact.

Any facts about Aetna? She seems really cool
Tumblr media
- Aetna was about 50 years old when she escaped from Elibe to Fodlan, basically a small child in dragon terms. Although she was already the size of an elephant back then, her mental age was about that of a 7-year-old human child.
- She originally learnt Anima and Dark magic from the ancient Nabatan mages, who viewed the Fire Dragon tribe as the incarnations of flame themselves. The fireproof robe she now wears was once worn by a Nabatan who had lived alongside her tribe.
- Although Aetna was born during the Scouring, she was shielded from most of the violence as the dragon tribes and mages of the Nabata Desert historically had a good relationship with one another. She was only forced to flee during the Endless Winter, while her parents stayed behind in the hope of reconciliation.
- Because Aetna is not a Child of the Goddess and does not have a Crest Stone for a heart, she does not bear the mark of a Crest in her blood. However, if imbibed, her blood will grant humans with the effects of a Flame Dragon Sign regardless.

Regarding that particular segment of the Nintendo Dream interview, since I don’t believe it’s hinted at in the main game, I choose not to include it in my blog’s canon.
While there were Nabateans who eventually came to govern Agarthan settlements, the majority of such appointments were due to agreement among the ruled peoples that a Nabatean should lead them, or take up an official role in some capacity. Any Nabatean who tried to conquer an Agarthan city would face heavy opposition from their siblings, and would be offered no clemency when their unjustly-earned power was wrestled back from them.
Instead, the driving force that led to the continent-destroying war between the dragons and the Fodlanders was the Nabatean’s sudden condemnation and withdrawal of the technology they had given to the Agarthans, and the rift that emerged between them.
Prior to this, the Agarthans, who primarily lived in central Fodlan, were using the technology shared with them by the Nabateans to improve the living conditions for their own people. They could grow crops faster, make structures that were more resistant to the elements, and could more easily defend themselves from the magic-engorged beasts of the mountains. With this improved quality of life came a growing population and a need for more land, both for agriculture and for living space. At first, the Agarthans could expand their territory without much trouble, but soon they were steamrolling the other, smaller peoples who also lived in Fodlan and absorbing them into their rapidly expanding civilisation.
However, the Nabatean’s refusal was not purely because of a desire to see the human’s conflicts cease. They also feared that the increasingly power-hungry Agarthans would one day surpass and rule over them. There was a general sentiment among the Nabateans that the shorter-lived humans were like children who needed their hand held, and some thought that the actions of the Agarthans proved that they were too immature to use their gifts wisely, including the blood Signs that the Nabateans were sharing with certain humans at the time.
This condescension of the human race, as well as certain Nabateans ruling over Agarthan cities and sharing their blood only with a favoured group of humans who had pleased them, gave rise to the conception that the Nabateans sought to rule over all of Fodlan as gods.
While I will not deny that there were a few (*looks at Aetna*) who did think of themselves as superior or humanity as inferior, I personally think that Sothis would not have approved of her children subjugating the Agarthans and acting like dictators over nature. She would urge her children to guide the Agarthans, and to give proper counsel, but not to directly interfere or hinder their development.

@cichole liked for a starter!
He must have looked like a wet dog when the caravan finally passed through the gates of Garreg Mach. The spring rains and intermittent scares from bandits had delayed their travel, and eyes lingered on the quiet mercenary who kept his hood up and spoke to no one in the lively marketplace, save for a young girl with bright green hair.
Tumblr media
Even now, dressed in the clean brown frock of the clergy and in the office of the distinguished Archbishop’s aide, the manakete still felt the same unease as the humans he had passed.
“..Seteth.“
Loscenn turned to his brother. Given their untimely separation, he ought to feel relief that he was not alone in this world. Yet anxiety gnawed at his thoughts as questions ran through his mind. Questions about the Church, about the noble’s Crests, about what in heaven’s name they were doing.
He decided to start with the simplest first.
“Is Flayn doing well? I’d thought she might have grown a bit more since I last saw her.”

Woah wait, is Aetna the Flame Spirit?
Tumblr media
Maybe. Maybe not.
I capitalized on the fact the fact that Brigid’s legends included worship of green-haired, flying people and that there canonically was a Flame Dragon among the Nabatean’s ranks when coming up with Aetna. But Aetna herself is more of a Flame Witch (in the traditional ‘fairy-tale kidnapping hag’ sense), and she has no desire to be worshiped by any human population. She fears humans far too much, and does not wish to expose her existence to them.
However, it is not out of the realm of possibility for a Brigidian to have seen Aetna or another Flame Dragon in the past, and developed a belief in a warlike Flame Spirit because of them. Still, even if addressed as the Flame Spirit, Aetna will not answer, and will be likely to kill the devotee, to keep her appearance and location a secret from prying eyes.

Q: Why did Nemesis attack Zanado?
K: In that world, originally the race that could change into dragons, the so called citizens of Nabatea, were scattered about Fodlan in the different places/lands as governers (rulers) but, there were the citizens of Agartha who held hatred against the citizens of Nabatea... in other words, Those Who Slither in the Dark wanted to overturn this state of affairs (of the Nabateans as rulers) and as such, they devised schemes.
They granted humans the technology to make powerful weapons from the corpses of the citizens of Nabatea, or so was their plan that they enacted, to which they went forward with this plan using the human, Nemesis. As a result, what would happen to humans who gained power... they would want even more power, and find a dragon much stronger to beat in order to collect materials forcefully, in order to make even more powerful weapons... and so that was the cycle that was born. And that was the birth of Fodlan's Ten Elites. And then, Seiros raised and army and forcefully supressed Nemesis and the Ten Elites by beating them, and then afterwards, as the victor, Seiros changed history, which led to the current history of the Seiros Church. In other words, "history is at the end of the day the victor's privilege and nothing else", is what we fit in. As a result, during the first part of this title, there is a great amount of people speaking lies about history, which results in the books in the library not being able to be believed at all.
Gonna ruminate on this later.

What do the gang think of Flayn? She's half human half Nabatean
Tumblr media
“From what I remember, she was a kind and generous child, who always sought to see the good in people. It was no surprise that the magic to heal came to her so easily, both her blood and her heart were aligned towards the same goal.”
“...I was against her conception. A child should not have to see a parent die at such a young age. But it is her burden to bear.“
Tumblr media
“I dared to hope that her existence meant the humans here were different. I was ready to believe it. And I was proved wrong. Cethleann and her mother were exceptions.“
Tumblr media
“Who’s that?“
