Following the splotches of red on Cassie’s hand after she brushed it against his chest, he nearly jumped back in surprise but composed himself again. The fatigue he’s been fighting for most part of the day is catching up to him as he reaches out to clasp her hand to brush some of the blood off her with his gloves. He rather not she get this on herself either.

“Yes but it’s not mine, I promise.” Warily he waves her off and smiles tiredly, pushing himself up from where he’s sitting on the ground to dust off. Around them is the aftermath of another hard fought but ultimately failed alien invasion from a few errant Skrulls who still aren’t too happy with Teddy being crowned king. The pushback has been expected but Eli certainly hopes this is the last wave for a while. He can’t keep bailing on study hall when he’s so close to finishing up his last semester. “That, uh, That last foot soldier wouldn’t surrender and had one of those... those guns they used on me last time. I sort froze up and Teddy luckily saw... ran him through with that fancy sword of his.”

A grime reminder that they’re not kids anymore and sometimes peace and negotiations can only do so much before their hands are forced... Eli himself is just lucky he hasn’t had to make that call for himself yet. He steps back to give Cassie a once over himself to make sure she wasn’t too banged up herself aside from a scrap and scratch here and there. Good good.

“Come on, we should rejoin the others and figure out where we go from here. I think the Avengers are sending out the cleaning crew to start rebuilding and judge what to do with the surviving squad that was sent after Teddy.” He says, allowing Cassie to loop her arm through his as they walk and it’s only then does he allow himself to lean against her. She’s strong enough to bear his weight. Not all of it but just enough to ease the tension from his shoulders. “... It’s good to have you back.”
