ABOUT MY HOME TOWN... MANGALDOI

Mangaldoi is a City in the state of Assam located in the north bank of river Brahmaputra which is about 65 km from Guwahati and 90 km from Tezpur. Its geographical indication in perspective to longitude and latitude are 92.03°E and 26.43°N, having an elevation of about 32 m. The place was named after Mangaldahi, who was the daughter of the Rajah of Darrang and was married to Pratap Singha a ruler of the Ahom kingdom. In the Yogini Tantra, there is mention of the river Mangala which is again referred to as Su-Mangala in the Kalikapurana. It is thus possible that the name Mangaldoi is derived from the river Mangala Devi. However a parallel and equally convincing theory says that the name was derived from the native Bododialect, where Mangal means pure and Dai means water. Now if we look at the zoner of demographic perspective then as per 2011 census it have a population of about 25,835 which consist of male about 13,205 and its sex ratio is 923:1000. Mangaldoi had an average literacy rate of 91%.The reason behind such a good numerical figure is simply because of the avalibality of large number of school and colleges which includes: Mangaldoi College, Mangaldoi Govt. T.T. College, Mangaldoi B.Ed College, Mangaldoi Law College, Mangaldoi Government Higher Secondary School ITI, Mangaldoi Politica Science Depratment, MLD College, Mangaldoi Commerce College, NERIM Challenge academy, Mangaldoi Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Mangaldoi Town High & M.E. Assamese, Bengali, Marwardi, Bihari, Punjabi communities form the majority. The town has a hindu majority, further more for the assisment as well as health security of the people the government have make the avalibality of large no of hospitals in the place as such of Mangaldoi Civil Hospital, Mangaldoi Poly Clinic, Debsons Nursing Home and so on. Moreover if we look in the known personality it includes Gurujyoti Das of BJP is the present MLA of Mangaldoi.
