Women’s Gallery Visit
Our class had its very first gallery visit in the MC Women’s Gallery located in the college building of Miriam College. The architecture in the college building in MC is an old building, but the room in which the art gallery is being held looks brand new. The doors are basic, the ceilings are not that high, and there are no pillars that will give off a nice vibe to the gallery. But the light to the room showed a warm tone. When I stepped inside the art gallery, the vibe immediately changed from normal to artistic. I highly think this is due to the light levels, which emphasized the artworks and sculptures inside the room. The paintings, however, were rather closer together. I think this is to compensate with the room space, which is small. The exhibition took up the entire room, which, as mentioned, wasn’t that huge. However, some artworks were grouped together according to their themes. For example, Filipino-inspired paintings were in one side of the wall. The works were eye-level, which is a good thing because the individual can observe the paintings much more closely. There are 40 artworks, sculptures and paintings in the Gallery, each made by different artists. Some artists focused on abstract paintings and mixing beautiful colors, such as Phyllis Zaballero with “Pas de Deux Green” and Angelica Verzosa in “Dilaw na Buwan sa Ibabaw ng Mumula-Mulang Bubong”. Others focused their subject on people, such as Anita Magsaysay-Ho in “Mga Tindera ng Mani” and Milagros Delgago Enage in “Azalea”. My favorite set, is Jana Benitez’s “Makulay na Sinderella, Isang Minuto Bago Mag Hatinggabi” because first of all, the title caught my eye, and so did the lines and patterns used. The sketch was wonderfully done and it has the authentic feel to it. Now for my reflection. Visiting the MC Women’s Gallery inspired me to create art that is different from all the other artworks in the world. It inspired me to be myself, and to create art that describes myself. I appreciated the abstract paintings and the sculptures, and I hope I get to make one for myself.

My blog #1
Hello! For our first Contemporary Arts class, we were given a set of questions to answer regarding our expectations for this term’s subject. My academic goal for this year is to be able to learn a lot from this class at the same time to pass all the given requirements before the said due date. Also, I would love to learn a lot about art and this subject in general. In order to achieve these goals, I must be determined and responsible in passing everything that needs to be done. I will also be active in class. Contemporary Arts is an interesting subject that will help me become more creative and engaged in my artistic side, because they will teach us about the fundamentals of art and how it is applied in our culture, which I think is a very important value to have. My expectations for this subject include a lot of activities, blog entries, and most of all, a lot of learning. Personally, the most useful thing in this subject is CREATIVITY, for without it, it would be impossible to learn and create. However, I do feel that some people aren’t creative enough or have not tapped into their inner artist, therefore they may think of this subject as difficult. But, through inspiration and determination, I believe that these people, like me, can overcome these challenges and to unleash the inner artist in me.
