“WORKFLOW WEEK ONE”
Week 1: First thing to do is to pick a song that resonates with me and something I can draw inspiration from. Whether that is through the songs sound, the cover art provided, the lyrics used or the actual artist. Next is the moodpboard and research, finding things that relate to the study. The need to understand other MP3 players all ready out there is important.
The processes that I am comfortable with include laser cutting, and digital programs such as photoshop and illustrator. I also feel comfortable with the 3D modelling programme SketchUp. But in terms of what I want to explore more, another 3D modelling programme such as Rhino etc, that could help me through my studies is somewhat important. Learning about LED circuits is another thing I am looking forward to exploring, which I hope will help me gain knowledge and is something to add to my reśume.

“FINAL CONCEPT - CONCEPT EIGHT”
I am super happy with the way this came out. I feel like it reflect the song in a lot of ways, from the orange to the nature essence and everything in between. I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted at the start, and I have brought a lot of the drawings/ideas through into this final concept. I put hours and hours and hours of work not only into this final piece but, into the whole project. I really think it shows off and couldn’t be happier about the outcome.

“CONCEPT SEVEN”
A lot of physical work was put into this part, with testing out the tolerance test, and then using the wire which I purchased, and using those as rods to hold the base together. And as you can see, a whole lot of drilling and testing.

“CONCEPT SIX”
After the previous concept, I was in the development stage, and I had a lot of problems that I had to fix. I had finalised my 3D model and was purely using the laser cutter to fix these problems. I also had some problems with the towel material I was using.

“CONCEPT FIVE”
I used every possible program I needed to in order to create this concept. Firstly, I created the 3D model in SketchUp. Imported it into Autodesk Netfabb to sort out the rotation and size. Then it was placed into Cura, where I changed some of the 3D print settings and printed it. I then got that maple leaf shape on Adobe Photoshop, and duplicated it into a circular-esk shape, filled in the hole, stroked it in a red colour, which I then imported into Adobe Illustrator to trace around and finally laser cut.

“CONCEPT FOUR”
The light created from this concept with the “raindrops” inside the model did sort of reflect onto the wall, but it didn’t provide a cool enough effect for me to decide to carry it on. The strands of material worked well, and it is something I could possibly carry into my final. I still like the maple leaf shape that I drew, and from 3D printing the grill using this shape, I know that it is possible to do. I did do a couple other variations of the grill, but I like the maple leaf one, as I felt it would firstly look better than both other options, but also because it would would in a real life environment.

“CONCEPT THREE”
In terms of the light emitted in this concept, it did work quite well. But the further to one side the LED went, the further the light diminished. This was not suitable and the fact that the LED would have to sit perfectly in the middle of it all would be a challenge.

“CONCEPT TWO”
After the last cardboard concept, I wanted to start using some of the digital fabrication tools such as the 3D printer. This particular concept of the “Four Seasons Hotel” relates to the song of choice, called four seasons. I tried to think outside of the box for this one, and ultimately although I liked the idea, I don’t think it would be very clear for those looking at it. It is also in a very simple shape, so it wouldn’t really draw in your attention. So overall while I liked the idea, I felt it was physically, a little boring so I will not be pursuing this idea.

“CONCEPT ONE”
After all the research and drawings, I chose to make my first concept out of cardboard for efficiency reasons. This concept was the one I was most concerned about in terms of it actually working, as I knew it would be hard to produce in SketchUp (The 3D modelling program I am going to use). As well as this, I wanted to use the clear acrylic, as I feel it has great significance in this project in particular. It reminds me a lot of Ice and water elements, which go along with the theme I am trying to portray. In the end I felt like this idea would be overly difficult and that I didn’t really like it that much in a simple 3D form (even out of cardboard).

“DESIGNS”
These are some “finalised” designs in which some may or may not be produced. Obviously I will try these out using different digital programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Sketchup, Autodesk Netfabb, and Cura.

“ORIGIN”
Some collective drawings showing what materials I will be using, and some theme drawings to show the direction I’m headed.
