Arighty bois, it's time for the obligatory post episode discussion:
I think it's best to talk about Gangle's, and also a theory i very hastily developed lol
(Trigger Warning: Mentions of Suicide and Drug use)
I'm gonna be blunt: Gangle is an allegory for suicide and drug use. The literal mask is obvious, it's something Gangle obtains to hide or change her emotions, but slips and doesn't fully hide the pain. And when Gangle throws away her mask, it symbolizes her letting go, but this is clashed when she is "hit" by the truck. I think something that really stuck out to me is after this scene, in which Caine says, "Couldn't help but notice however that you seemed to cut your own shift short, went a little kooky, and ran into oncoming traffic." This mixed with the drug theme makes a story of someone who for tried to stop taking drugs, had a manic episode, and one way or another died.
However, I'd be remissed to not mention the growth we see. After being told that she had the ability to shift the blame of her manic episode onto another one of the players, she refuses, saying that it was "...her responsibility. [She] just cracked under the pressure." Later in the episode, Zooble tells her that maybe they'll find another way to make her happy. This also fits with the drug allegory, saying that one of the best ways to get out is to have others to help you. This mixed with the fact that Gangle has made a true friend, gives us the first real sign of growth in any of these characters.
This episode also sees other peoples masks slipping as well, with Ragatha starting to speak more of her mind and reveal some of her life details (I personally believe she was a country girl who also acted as a birthday princess actor, although I could be wrong), and Jax becoming less cocky than before, seemingly actually tired and stressed. I'm not sure narratively where these are going, but in due time I suppose?
And finally I'd like to just spitball a theory I quickly made up. So I'm not sure how common an idea this is, but I've always had the theory that the Digital Circus is a game designed to force therapy onto those in need, but with this context and specifically with Gangles allegory, I now believe that the Digital Circus isn't used just to give therapy to anyone, but those who at least attempted to commit suicide. And it's pretty easy to see with certain characters potential reasons for this. Ragatha, based on the way she spoke, seemed to be deeply upset with her job, only finding solice in the animals on her farm. Jax may have felt powerless in his life, which could explain why he craves so much control or freedom in the Circus. And perhaps most upsettingly, this theory could suggest that Kinger and Queenie commited suicide together, and both ended up in the Digital Circus.
This is just my (likely (Hopefully)) incorrect theory, and either way, this episode was still amazing. Absolutely phenomonal work from Gooseworx and Glitch. Can't wait for the next episode with....Ragatha? Oh boy....

People always say there's always a bigger fish, but what if that applied to all forms of life
Like what if yea, fish are eaten by fish, but also land and sky mammals are eaten by floating fish that roam through the air?
So a Fox eats a mouse, a leopard eats a fox, it then there are these mysterious incredibly large aquatic esque creatures that float through the air that eat leopards

Ok so, now that ive had time to think over the episode, here's some more thoughts i have:
1: Zoobles Dysphoria: Although it was brief, Zooble's talk about how they've been looking for years to find the pieces that make them feel right is, although one i cant relate to personally, is an incredibly sweet sentiment that is very touching, whether or not your aware that Zooble is Non-Binary
Kinger and his Symbolism: I could be wrong, but Kinger to me gives of the energy and moral of treating and living with Dementia. This feels pretty obvious, but to elaborate, the idea of someone who most of the time might be talking about things that you wont get, you'll see glimpses and moments of the person they used to be, and for the person themselves, even if you cant remember everything, their memories still make it to them even if they aren't aware of it, like how Kinger saw the mass of eyes in the Angels mouth and immediately thought of his wife, or how even if he doesnt know why, he still loves bugs. And sure, those moments can be brief, but you'll learn to live with them and appreciate them.
Other random stuff:
When Kinger talks about how you should appreciate those who care about you before they're gone, you can hear the same melody used in "Not Alone" in episode 2
The way that Kinger glows when deprived of oxygen is such a good analogy for how even if he may have various mental struggles, when he's anything but normal, he shines
A detail that completely didn't register for me is the concept of a character with gender dysphoria having a body that is meant to change, but they never find the right pieces is so good.
GOD THIS EPISODE WAS SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOD AAAAAAAAAAAA

I love having a brain that constantly brings up extra thoughts when in a conversation because in the horrible scenario in which i am talking to another person about anything who also enjoys derailing conversations, we could literally start off from talking about why the air is thick and somehow by the end were discussing why the reason some of the kids from our highschool are enjoying due to the strucutrs of society being built by people with incredibly dated ideologies that sometimes act as self fulfilling prophecies, keeping the status quo even if its wrong.
Also who designed a paper clip like that. Thats like way more needy than it should be k?

Id like to say that yes Murder Drones episode 8 is objectively the best (visually speaking) peice of indie animation to date, but also
Why did they have to pull all punches with the HORROR show
Like

Like no matter if you have context or not, its still at the very least creepy, RIGHT?

Ok so like i just saw a post saying "oh my god how long have i not been here?" And like i went down a mini existential spiral because like if there is no afterlife then is there no beforelife? I had this thought since i was 4 about how many souls there must be of people not born yet waiting around infinitely. What if you're never born? Then i scroll down and its about a photo with a bunch of stuffed animals at a tea party

One minor detail about Murder Drones i dont think is brought up (or has even been mentioned) is that Tessa and It's spaceships straight up have solver flesh in them.
Like we see in Eliza Stevensons animation reel for ep 8 that the ships model has flesh
(Look in the upper right hand side corner)
Tumblr media
So like obviously we now know that J was with Cyn and new about it, but do you think when N stole the ship did he walk in being like "ok time to pilot a- what the fu"

Ive been thinking about how light travels and how we see planets at a slower rate, like the way we see the sun is actually the sun from 8 minutes ago, and then i obviously thought of aliens.
Then i realized how usefull aliens could be at helping us determine our own history.
Like if we see aliens in the future, there's a possibility that because they saw our history that we may have forgotten, they could have recorded it, and maybe even vice versa.

I freaking hate how full circle the writing of murder drones is. Lime you can tell that they had this all planned.like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cyn(Sin), adding to and foreshadowing the religious themes of the show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fact that we see various medicines pertaining to skin care, foreshadowing the whole Cyn Tessa skinsuit
And obviously overall the fact that pretty much any character with a decent amount of importance is important to the main plot later on, like Thad, Lizzie, Khan, and even the railgun and J
