people already piss me off taking their fake service dogs into stores that misbehave and give actual service animals a bad name, but to take a REACTIVE DOG IN????
there was an actual, clearly well-trained service dog sticking right by her owner and doing her job in the grocery store, and trump shirt motherfucker's german shepherd "service" dog LUNGED for her, pulling his owner with him, and thank GOD another customer in the aisle reacted fast enough to shove their shopping cart between them to protect the actual service dog because he absolutely was trying to attack her and would not have stopped otherwise
and then the poor service dog kept looking back as her owner led her away quickly, SO obviously confused about a dog trying to attack her while she's working
THE DOG THAT WAS STILL STRAINING AT THE END OF HIS LEASH AND BARKING HIS GODDAMN HEAD OFF TRYING TO ATTACK BECAUSE HIS DIPSHIT OWNERS JUST KEPT HIM IN THE AISLE INSTEAD OF BEING THE ONES TO WALK AWAY

One misconception I see shared a lot by well-meaning zoo supporters is that all the animals in their favorite zoo or aquarium are rescues. This is often used as a put-down to “bad” zoos, who capture their animals from the wild or “force”them to breed.
The truth is more complex. There are certain species in zoos and aquaria of which nearly all the individuals you see are almost definitely rescues, such as sea otters, bald eagles, and grizzly bears. But for the majority of others, while there may be one or two non-releasable rescues in the collection, most individuals were indeed either born in human care or collected from the wild.
Nowadays, mammals, birds, and many herptiles in accredited facilities are essentially exclusively captive bred. For long-lived species, such as cetaceans and elephants, there are still some older wild-born individuals alive from wild capture days. They have spent their entire lives (40 or 50+ years) in human care and are not candidates for release.
For the vast majority of fish species (around 90%), including many sharks and rays, they are still collected from the wild, either by the zoo itself or a third party organization. Accredited facilities take care to ensure their fish are collected sustainably and will not negatively impact wild populations. In recent years, there have been great strides made in aquaculture (such as through the Tropical Aquaculture Laboratory at the University of Florida) and other captive breeding efforts. One cool example is the birth of Rip, a critically endangered sand tiger shark pup, at the AZA-accredited Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach.

A giant salamander emerged from Kyoto’s Kamogawa on July 4, 2014, following torrential rains that flooded the river.
Four years later to the date, it returned.

There’s a lot of excellent examples of the difference between a million and a billion, but here’s my new personal favorite from a conversation I had today:
A million minutes ago was April 2021, the height of the COVID pandemic.
A billion minutes ago was November 121 CE, the height of the Roman Empire.

My grandmother - who has previously stated that she felt Trump was the second coming of Jesus - is pissed at that the BBB. She said "this isn't what I voted for!" when I was talking about my worries about loan caps and repayment plans. This country makes me want to scream.
Because it absolutely is what you voted for. You voted for Project 2025. You made this happen. You and the rest of the Americans that voted for this voted directly to make me struggle for the rest of my life. Even my own father voted for him. For his own assumed finacial gain. No matter how many conversations we had before the election on what a second Trump term would mean.
I'm going to be a vet. I will have to fight these laws both in my communication with clients and with my loans for my entire career. And I have to worry about even posting this. My friends in other countries can not visit me without danger. I had a longer wait crossing the border from Canada back into the US because they needed to waste taxpayer money to X-ray my vehicle. Not to mention this country's foreign policy. I have never so seriously considered moving out of the US.

I think if you try to wiggle out of getting your dog vaccinated for rabies due to your own anti-vax beliefs, you should be forced to watch footage of a dog succumbing to rabies and the pathological process of taking brain tissue from a suspected canine rabies victim. I really think treating these people with kid gloves is not working and they need to viscerally see what the consequences of their actions can be.
