I have to apologize for the lack of new uploads in this blog. The reason being that I moved my stuff here to a new account, and there was no way to let my followers here know. I'll explain for those who didn't know and wondered what happened with this tumblr blog. About a month ago I tried to upload a Jungle Book fanart piece to this blog, but due to a bug in Tumblr's coding, the upload caused my blog an automated shut down. This also happened with my other blog, so I contacted Tumblr support about it and they helped me to get my other blog back, they also were nice enough to whitelist it so the incident doesn't happen again there. It took more time to get this one back as well, but I hadn't noticed until recently. Since my other blog is whitelisted, I decided to move my art over there, and it'll be the one I'll be using for that purpose from now on. As for this one, I'll just leave it here for the time being, then maybe I'll end up deleting it. I just wanted to notify my followers that I'll continue my activity in the new blog linked above. Thanks for your attention :)

I wanted to try doing something different than what I'm used to for a change, to loosen my hand and give it a more painterly look. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with it or not, but it won't be my last, so I'll keep practicing this style occasionally :)
I made this based on a mysterious unknown lion that seems to only be found in the The Lion Guard game app for iOS, in the form of one of Rafiki's paintings.
I wrote some info about him in this post: http://leorgathar.tumblr.com/post/143956845542/who-is-this-lion

SPOILERS from The Lion Guard’s episode “Paintings and Predictions”.
—---------
I just couldn’t resist doing some fanart after the surprise reveal of Nala’s father in TLG, so here’s my interpretation of how he must have looked like. Basically I just drew Kion, but I used the same colors as in Nala’s dad’s painting for his fur, and I also gave him Nala’s eye color because why not? :)
Additionally, I drew him falling down so majestically from a tree, just like in the painting. (Headcanon: Nala’s father wasn’t so great at climbing trees =P)

Among the Pridelands’ Best.
I made this drawing inspired by the episode "Follow That Hippo!" from The Lion Guard. It's one of the best episodes in the series so far where Beshte got his time to shine in the way he deserved. There's something about that hippo I just like so much, whether it is his kindness, his humility, or maybe it's just that gigantic smile on his face. But it was his bond with the young elephant, Mtoto, that ended up melting my heart. I like to imagine that under Beshte's mentorship, Mtoto never gave up and eventually became a Lion Guard member, with a strong heart just like his hero :) And yes, I'm aware that this drawing also implies that Beshte died at some point :P but I wanted to give it that “Lion King” feel of pride for the next generation, like Mufasa with Simba at the end of TLK2: Simba's Pride. So I thought this was most appropriate.

Race with the Lion Elders. Since there was no TLG episode this week, I did this to help deal with the long, long wait. I hope it helps you as well. Hang in there kids :) PS: Yes, the first cloud-lion is Mufasa. The other four are unspecified.

"There's a perfect world, shining in your eyes..." I based this drawing on the look Simba and Nala give each other at the end of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", but in the case of Kovu and Kiara I chose the starry night scenario from their own love song, "Love Will Find a Way". This mutual stare must be one of my favourite parts of any relationship. There are so many unique ways to tell someone you love them, but this moment really stands out for its serene nature. That wordless moment where you simply look into the eyes of that person you love, and smile. It never matters how long it lasts, and it can be brought in any occasion. That moment when all your worries fade away, when you're in peace with the world, making you feel safe and unbreakable. You don't need words to remind your partner this way that your love for them is real. That is the look for sincere and genuine love.
For the couples out there, I dedicate this drawing to you. I wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day :)

In Mexica mythology, it is said there were two gods who were brothers, named Quetzalcóatl (Feathered Serpent) and Tezcatlipoca (Smoking Mirror). Together they defeated the devouring monster, Cipactli, and using its corpse they created the Earth. Other gods helped to create humans and giants, who lived all in harmony. This new land needed light, so Tezcatlipoca took a place in the sky and became the First Sun. Tezcatlipoca demanded worship from mankind in the form of blood sacrifices, which caused a disagreement between him and Quetzalcóatl, who stood up to defend the humans. Quetzalcóatl hit his brother so strongly with his cane that he stroke him down to the Earth, and so Tezcatlipoca was defeated. Quetzalcóatl then took his place as the Second Sun. Tezcatlipoca landed in the middle of a lake and he lay there for an entire age, until one day when he emerged to the lake's shore. His shape had changed entirely, he walked out of the water as a dark four legged beast with a deep thirst for revenge. The first of the jaguars. This is my version of what Tezcatlipoca might have looked like during his days as a jaguar in the Legend of the Fifth Sun. I imagine he still had remnants of his Sun powers, and jaguars didn't have their characteristic markings yet. He later created the jaguars to his image with the sole purpose of ending with humanity and take his revenge on Quetzalcóatl, which he eventually got, but that's a story for another day. In my story, animals have their own version of the events in these legends, and Tezcatlipoca exists only as one legend that Tleyotl tells Cuauhtzin to entertain her. His name may even be different as it is told by a jaguar, but the First of the Jaguars is definitely a very important figure, and the central character in most jaguars' tales. I intended to finish this drawing for Halloween, but alas, life stuff got in the way, and I finally got around to do the final touch-ups. I'll just cheat and class this as an October drawing =P

"You may say that jaguars don't understand love; and maybe you're right, we don't. But Citlali... she was different. She was the only jaguar I met who truly cared for my happiness. She knew love better than any other creature in the Tlalticpac, so much that she was so kind to share it with me when I least deserved it. She loved me, and I felt it... I really felt it. I tell you, my dear Cuauhtzin, how terribly absurd is to be alive without her heart beating for me." -Tleyotl, Sun of Dawn-

I’ve been practicing with a few face expressions for Cuauhtzin. The beak is especially tricky to get right (I don’t like the top middle one xP) but I think I’m getting there :) This is a young version of Cuauhtzin, so still a little eaglet.

A speed drawing video of my latest work. Entirely done using Procreate for iPad. These two golden eagles are Cuauhtzin (as a chick) with her mother, Patlani. They are both characters in my WIP novel, Knights of the Sun.
For some reason, the video skipped a couple of steps, like when doing the nest, or the mountain in the background, I don’t know why it did that >< but at least it’s just minor details, hehe. If you want to see the drawing in full quality, you can check it out right here.
It was so fun drawing these two, I’m glad to be drawing eagles again ^^ I promise I’ll make new character sheets soon!
I hope you enjoy it :)
