i feel kind of bad because i keep coming up with ideas (and also loving other peoples ideas) of spamton and tenna being angsty or cute as buttons and then i remember that Toby Fox Himself literally said that he imagined that theyre supposed to have a Spy VS Spy dynamic and honestly thats the least common interpretation of their relationship ive probably seen or considered ???

like the idea of reconnecting with the things that made you happy as a kid and the nostalgia of childhood and when things were better and you had less to worry about also being Fundamentally Uncomfortable now because youve changed so much despite how badly you want that former comfort and peace of mind...

VS meeting someone new (or getting to know someone old that you never had the chance to connect with in the first place) who aligns so well with your current self and situation but also is someone youd never thought youd be able to relate to based on past experiences and that ends up being its own specific brand of Awkward

just finished watched The Thursday Murder Club -- very charming romp of a film! clever without being convoluted, funny without being too camp. genuinely made me cry at the end (although thats not a hard thing to pull off).

in the event of spamtenna Not Working Out in the Slightest (and because im a multishipper) i could be persuaded to consider spamvil.

knowing the kind of person tenna is, i could definitely see him simply not being able to accept spamton as he is now. tenna would be constantly searching for what spamton used to be like, instead of what he is, and i think that would monumentally piss spamton off. spamtenna post-chapter 3 relies heavily on the possibility that tenna would ultimately be understanding and spamton willing to meet him halfway, which... is a huge assumption, especially knowing how they interact with even just the lightners. i could easily see spamton staying true to his final words: "im never going to do that again". even if nothing goes left unsaid, theres no telling how they would even go from there.

(this is all assumptions on top of assumptions, anyway. thats what shipping is, after all.)

afaik spamton and jevil (in the context of them existing within kris inventory) know each other at their lowest. theyre both annoying, theyre both screwed up in the head, the wiki categorizes them as rivals, but its something. its not being forced to look in a mirror and being reminded of what you used to be -- its what you are now.

in the same way that vox apparently has a protruding tongue despite the fact that his head is only about an inch thick (magical hammerspace i guess?) i sometimes kind of find it a bit weird that tenna has a protruding nose?

(in general this fact really doesnt bother me, but i do think about it like 5% of the time)

like i understand that the darkeners (at least the important ones) are largely metaphorical and HOW they work really doesnt matter, theyre just supposed to exist and work because fuck you, its magic, but...

idk part of me wishes that more was done with the fact that hes a screen, and not a face. it unfortunately presents a lot of limitations, but i think some of the best creativity can stem from not being allowed to do certain things, yknow?

an addendum to this -- i think its a 50/50 shot for this plan to actually work.spamton is a hyper-independent little nutcase, but hes also been through an AWFUL lot.

i could see him maybe feeling like he owes tenna a favor, but not unwavering, eternal loyalty. spamtons strongest desire (afaik) is freedom, and the ability to come and go whenever he chooses. hed find tenna smothering, to say the least.

but i could see him sticking by tennas side, for better or worse (mostly for worse) because as much as he values freedom, he knows that tennas not going to abandon him due to the sunk cost fallacy of piecing spamton back together. its an extremely self-serving loyalty for both parties, but loyalty nontheless.

ive seen some lighthearted posts about how "wouldnt it be funny if tenna found spamton MORE attractive as a weird stinky garbage puppet thing", and while that indeed would be hilarious, i also figured it would make complete sense but in a pretty unhealthy, dark way.

at the time of chapter three, tenna is at one of his lowest points. hes terrified of obsolesce. he NEEDS to be needed, but he drives most of his employees away with his explosive temper and silly demands. hes awkward and invasive and oblivious. even before this, were told that tenna wanted to know spamtons secret to success, and that his initial plan for spamton was to get close enough to him to get him to spill the beans. tenna isnt perfect, and hes not blameless in the resulting fallout that we see.

i personally wouldnt put it past tenna to develop the idea of, if he helped spamton ("i need to nurse him back to help like a sick baby bird") that would earn him spamtons loyalty by obligation, so hed finally have someone who wouldnt leave him no matter what tenna put them through, and it would prove tennas worth as a caretaker and entertainer. it might also be enough for spamton to finally tell him his big secret. tenna developing a savior complex in order to save both his self esteem and his physical form doesnt sound all that unreasonable.

i love seeing post-reunion spamtenna as soft and (relatively) healthy, but i also believe that theres every possibility that it shouldnt really work and both of them just brute force it out of habit and desperation.
