2015 Father’s Day Gift Guide

It’s that time of year again – no, it’s not Spring Cleaning or Christmas, it’s Father’s Day! The one time a year where instead of buying for you, you can buy for him.
We’ve gathered a list of gifts any dad would be happy receiving.

1. Portable Charger
Because Dad wants to talk to you everyday. The Poki is slim and one of the best designed power banks around. If you want to be a little cheesy, we suggest the Virtue Heart.
2. Tie
Because Dad gets up and goes to work for you. Depending on your budget, you can get Burberry or Salvatore Ferragamo. Tie Bar is also a great choice.
3. Wallet
Because Dad has always helped you out in a time of need. A classic to get is Coach.
4. Bag
Because Dad wants to see the world with you. HiSmart is a tech bag with multiple functions such as answering phone calls, geo-pin location, voice recording and more. It is still in preorder and will be available in August.
5. Watch
Because Dad made curfews so you can get home safe. If your dad is interested in product design, Issey Miyake would be a great choice.
6. Laptop
Because Dad always made sure to check in weekly (or daily). If he’s a huge techie, a Macbook is a good choice.
7. Whiskey Glass
Because Dad poured you your first drink. Crate and Barrel offer a variety of whiskey glasses at an affordable price.
8. Sunglasses
Because Dad was always watching over you. Ray-Bans are a classic to get.

9. Peace & Quiet
Because that’s what Dad secretly wished for when you were born! This is just priceless.

Spring Is In The Air

Unless you live on the West Coast or in the deep South, you’ve just spent five months stuck under the snow. The streets are covered in salt (your car even more so), you forget what your lawn looks like, you haven’t seen a leaf since Halloween, and you haven’t been able to feel your fingers or toes since Christmas. But what’s that? A blade of grass jumping through the rain melted snow? A little sunlight coming out from behind the clouds? That’s right break out the sunglasses and some shorts, breathe in that fresh air, and head outside because that warm weather means its SPRING!!!
Spring is that short, very underrated season, where you are freed from the shackles of winter but not yet slapped in the face with a wave of debilitating heat. Springtime weather means that a world of possibilities has been opened up for you, and you don’t have to break the bank on that energy bill! Fortunately for us we live in California, but that doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy spring like everybody else. So here are three things that you should do this spring:
Picnic – If you happen to live on the West Coast like us, grab a lemon off of the tree in the backyard, whip up a batch of lemonade, make some sandwiches, grab a blanket, and ready your frisbee skills because its time for a picnic. Even if you don’t have the luxury of living in the Golden State, a picnic is still a great activity for the Spring. You can get outside, smell the flowers, and see everything finally blooming. Even dirt smells great when you’ve been cooped up inside for almost half of the year. Put your phone away for just a minute (but let it charge with the Moonstone or Poki), and enjoy the great outdoors. Here’s some great local places for a picnic:
Garden – Now is the time to get outside. Either go to your backyard or the local community garden and start planting some flowers. There’s nothing more relaxing than digging in the dirt and hanging outside. Now that all of the garden centers are open again, you can have your pick of the best spring flowers. Bring your Modre bluetooth speaker outside and listen to a little music while you start your spring off right with a garden!
Beach – Admit it, you probably haven’t been to the beach since late summer. That feels like ages ago now! The water might still be too cold to swim, but not much rivals pulling up a chair in the sand and enjoying a good book while listening to the waves crash on the shore. You don’t even have to wear your swim trunks. Plus, if you’re looking for a little peace and tranquility, the beach is the place to go in the spring because its only a matter of time before it will be flocking with swimmers and bad frisbee throwers.
Get outside and enjoy the weather because spring is here!

The 45 Degree Angle

The Egyptian Pyramids, the fulcrum, the pythagorean theorem, and now…the HiSmart? What these four, very different concepts and objects have in common is that they use the triangle. What could a triangle possibly have to do with a smart bag you might ask? To put it simply the triangle is the most sturdy and stable shape possible. It is for this reason that we have used the 45 degree angle in the HiSmart. By using a 45 degree angle between the strap and body we are saving you almost 30% of the strength you would use to carry a normal bag, not bad right.
When we first set out to create the HiSmart our goal was not only to develop a product that would merge technology and fashion, but also to create something that was durable, comfortable, and easy to use. Lets face it, nobody wants a geometry lesson right now. So we did all the math for you so that you can enjoy the HiSmart in the best way possible.

7 Reasons Why the HiSmart is More Beneficial to Your Life than the Smartwatch

The world seems to be going crazy over the Smartwatch, the latest addition to the rapidly growing industry of wearables. But the HiSmart from Lepow, recently featured on Wired, may actually be more useful for everyday life than the Smartwatch. The HiSmart might not tell time, but so what? That’s just about the only thing that the Smart Watch has a leg up on in this race. Here are 8 reasons why the HiSmart is just plain better.
1. It Carries All Your Things: I bet you didn’t think that we’d start out with this, but hey the HiSmart is a bag. The Smart Watch can carry exactly…nothing. The HiSmart holds everything you need, and allows you to be just as mobile as you would with a watch on your wrist.
2. Selfies Are Easy: Making duckfaces at the back of your hand will certainly make onlookers cringe. But with the HiSmart you can take selfies with ease by just clicking the HiRemote. Plus, no more selfie sticks!
3. Jam Out: You can connect your headphones directly to the HiSmart and play all of your favorite songs with a single tap. Besides, it would be kind of weird if you plugged headphones into your wristwatch.
4. Its Waterproof: Smartwatches are water resistant, meaning they can get a little wet. But the HiSmart’s canvas exterior actually makes it waterproof, so you can take it with you anywhere.
5. Never Lose Your Bag: Its not too hard to set your watch down and completely forget where you put it. But the HiSmart is a bag, something thats pretty hard to lose track of. And if you do lose track of it, don’t worry your phone will tell you the last place you lost connection with it.
6. Rest Your Eyes: With the Smartwatch, you still have to squint at a tiny screen and scroll through pages of apps. The HiSmart eliminates the screen altogether and replaces it with a single button.
7. Free Your Hands: Lets face it, the Smartwatch is just a mini extension of your smartphone. You still have to use your hands to operate it. The HiSmart liberates you from excessive technology just enough so that you can get out and enjoy the day without having your phone in your hands.

The Durability of HiSmart

Admit it, we are constantly on our phones. Whether we like to acknowledge it or not, technology has become such an integral part of our everyday lives that we are rarely seen without a laptop, iPad, or iPhone in hand. When we don’t have them on us, we go on a search and rescue mission in the hopes that we haven’t missed a call or text (some would probably resort to using police dogs if they could).
But none of this is anyones fault. Our society is increasingly dependent on technology, and this trend does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Because of this dependence we carry our devices everywhere we go. The need to be connected has created a demand for something to help us carry our devices, without losing that connection. We need a backpack or bag that protects our devices, looks good, and keeps us connected.
Thats why we created HiSmart in this cool fabric called canvas. We even made it waterproof so your belongings can stay protected no matter what the weather is. So why didn’t we make the bag fully leather? First, Canvas is lighter and more durable. If you are going to carry a lot of stuff in your bag, we can’t have it weighing you down. But don’t worry, we aren’t skimping on quality. The canvas we use is on par with leather because we want to dress your devices up, not down. It’s guaranteed to protect your bag against all weather, so go ahead and do your thing while the HiSmart keeps your devices safe and connected!

Black & Cognac: The Colors of Sophistication and Class

In developing the HiSmart bag, we concluded that the two colors that would best fit our new high tech wearable were cognac and black. At first glance, both are simple colors, nothing that would turn heads or cause someone to strike up a conversation. But cognac and black are two colors that are staples in the fashion world, colors that we believe best highlight the HiSmart.
When someone says cognac, your first thought would likely be the brown liquor produced in a small region of western France, sipped by monks and old men in smoking jackets. Yet, the color cognac brings to mind thoughts of tasteful sophistication. Cognac matches perfectly with the HiSmart, particularly because of the HiSmart’s purpose. The classic caramel brown look of cognac on the HiSmart, makes wearing it possible in the workplace or out at a casual eatery. This versatile color is perfect for the business professional or the young hip urban dweller looking to add a little elegance to their wardrobe.

If the color cognac brings out thoughts of elegance and a refined taste found in the past, then black brings about thoughts of modern simplicity and minimalism. We decided to offer the HiSmart in black because black is the most versatile of all colors. Black is often associated with suave sophistication, worn by those who are cool, calm, and collected. Black can complement any color, and can be worn with absolutely anything. In short, black is easy to wear and simply makes you look cool no matter what.
The HiSmart is now on Indiegogo.

3 Things to Help You Better Understand HiSmart!
Believe it or not,
“the HiSmart has become the hottest wearable in the crowdfunding world! It only took 30 hours to reach our $50K goal on Indiegogo, and 1 week to achieve a $100K total.”
We have received many encouraging comments and feedback from HiSmart fans who are excited to discover more about the HiSmart. That’s why we decided to collect some of our fans most interesting questions and put together a series of articles ranging from the design story, the team, the wearable industry as a whole, and the success of crowdfunding.

First up, lets talk about design.
Smart Design for Multiple Lives
In creating the HiSmart, we wanted to address the issue of limited choices for men and women when they are choosing a suitable bag for the office. With the HiSmart there are no more struggles to find the right bag. The HiSmart fits all occasions and all carrying capacity needs, while keeping every device organized on the inside.
Typically, men don’t buy a variety of bags like women do. It is not often that you see a man buy multiple bags for multiple purposes. At most you may see a man carrying a briefcase, backpack, or messenger bag.
“We wanted to create a bag that looked professional in the office, but could also be used for casual weekend outings.”
In order to bring this vision to life we decided to make a convertible bag. Rather than be limited to one look, the user can change the bag’s orientation. In addition the HiSmart solves the issue of space. There are times when you may carry too little, or too much. For the HiSmart to change from a messenger bag to a backpack, it needed to be able to make room for items such as tablets, laptops, and textbooks.
Simplify Your Life on the Road
Most people want to find the simplest way to use their phone. This is especially true for commuters. They are often in a rush and want as much trouble in the morning as I do (that is none). The bag solves that problem with one simple push of a button. The HiSmart remote allows you to remember where you parked your car or how to get to your favorite new spots. You can record any inspirational ideas that you have in seconds, without taking time to find the right app on your crowded phone. It can pick up phone calls without taking out your phone. In addition, you can easily find your phone through HiSmart. It can even solve problems such as unwanted dinner invitations, by making your phone ring and pretending it is a phone call!!
The Secret to Keeping Your Life Connected
The focus of staying connected to the HiSmart is the strap, which is equipped with four buttons, each with several functions. The + and – buttons are used to control music volume, as well as skip songs forward or backwards. The triangle button functions without the app, letting you answer or ignore phone calls, and play music.
The circle button is used primarily for the functions that are used in conjunction with the HiSmart app (coming soon on App Store) such as pinning location, voice recording, phone alerts, and picture taking. After selecting the functions that you want activated, you can just push the button without taking your phone out (except when taking a selfie).
The technology used in the HiSmart is two Bluetooth chips which we placed into one remote. In the market, nobody has combined the two together, as they are usually sold separately. What once took two separate products to create this function now can be done with our HiSmart. The phone on your hand connects to the HiSmart via a LE 4.0 Bluetooth (which uses less battery life and has a more stable connection).

More Scenarios Where You Can Connect With the HiSmart
The HiSmart can locate exactly where you are, allowing you to easily share your location. Its great for parking or for remembering how to get back to where you started. After saving your location, you can get the directions back quickly. You can also locate your favorite places, such as restaurants and cafes by simply checking your location list and sharing it with friends on social media.
The HiSmart can also voice record. Instead of swiping around for the right app, the user can just push one button to record, and one button to stop recording. The data is saved onto the app, which you can later send to yourself. The HiSmart’s built in mic is of very good quality and stable for recording even when you are far away from the phone.
The HiSmart can answer and ignore phone calls. Instead of wasting time shuffling through items in your bag to find your phone, you can now just push one button and answer it. For bikers, it makes it easier to stay connected while on the go. It also avoids dropping your phone, or getting distracted while holding it up to your ear. In addition to phone calls, you can plug in your headphones and jam out to your favorite tunes.

The HiSmart can find your phone. If you can’t remember where you put your phone, you can easily find it through sound by just holding the circle button. The phone alarm will automatically ring until you cancel it.
The HiSmart can help take photos. We created the HiSmart to be a shutter release button because it allows people to be their own photographer. You can even take photos without the help of others. For this function, you need to select the camera option and then simply set the phone on a stable platform.
Anything Else Important to Know?
The HiSmart is the world’s first smart convertible urban bag. It is currently accepting $199 pre-order on Indiegogo. Find out more here.

Behind the Scenes: Making of the HiSmart Bag

For 2 years the Lepow team has been hard at work developing the HiSmart bag. The HiSmart began as nothing more than an idea, however it has grown to become an innovative product in the rapidly growing field of wearable technology.
The Lepow team oversaw everything that went into the creation of the HiSmart. The brainstorming, sketching, development, design, manufacturing, and presentation of the HiSmart were difficult tasks, yet the team’s hard work paid off with the finished product.
In making the HiSmart come to life, Lepow wanted to create something that appealed to the urban city dweller. In an age where people are constantly connected to their smart devices, Lepow decided to develop a unisex bag that would allow for such connectivity.

Drawing from their own experiences in urban life, the Lepow team set to work on creating a bag that could connect with smart devices to avoid the constant need to go digging for a ringing phone. This idea was developed further to include music listening, GPS tracking, and text notifications.
Once the HiSmart had been perfected, the team set out to market it to the fast growing world of wearable technology. It has made appearances at Fashion Week in New York City, as well as numerous websites and articles, all of which have touted the HiSmart as an original and inventive new product.

The creation of the HiSmart was by no means an easy undertaking. The Lepow team spent long hours working to perfect both the style and technology of the bag so that such an inventive and modern product could be used by all.

The HiSmart Bag: Canvas

The HiSmart bag is the latest in wearable technology from the Silicon Valley mobile accessories company Lepow. What makes the HiSmart bag stand out most is its functionality and practicality. It can link up with any of your smart devices, play music, make phone calls, take pictures and track your location. However, a closer look will reveal that the HiSmart is a truly durable and fashionable bag, particularly useful for urban dwellers that are constantly on the go.
While fashion and practicality are the two main features of the HiSmart bag, its durability is also a defining quality. the exterior and interior of the HiSmart is composed of high quality waterproof canvas that can withstand any unfavorable weather conditions. While leather is the most common material used in bags, HiSmart mainly uses canvas to also keep the bag lightweight. The straps, corners, and zippers, however, are made of fine Italian leather for durability and long-lasting use.
The durability of the HiSmart ensures that your devices will be completely protected while linked with the bag. Wherever you go the HiSmart will keep your devices safe and connected, all with ease.

S/S 2015 Smarter

A new trend is emerging, in which the fashion industry is blending with the rapidly developing world of technology. As we advance technologically, we want our clothing and gadgets to advance as well. The wearable technology market is growing at an unbelievable pace. Consumers are now demanding watches, glasses, clothing, and other accessories that are not just stylish, but technologically practical.

Lepow has entered the relatively untapped market of “smart bags.” The HiSmart is the first of its kind, as it answers the call for both style and technological compatibility. The HiSmart appeals to young urban dwellers who want to experience as much as possible, while still remaining connected to their smart devices. With this bag you can access your smart phone, iPad or tablet, listen to music, take pictures, and track your location. The HiSmart is especially convenient for the urban lifestyle as it can be easily used anywhere on the go. It is perfect for use on mass transit, or while you are simply exploring the city. It’s hands free technology ensures that while you are on move, your devices are only one button away.
The HiSmart is not only practical in its application, but it is also a model for style and sophistication. Recently featured in New York’s Fashion Week, the HiSmart is a perfect example of the new marriage between style and technology. The HiSmart can be converted to either a messenger bag or backpack, depending on your preference. It’s sleek and modern look, along with its technological capabilities, adds a new dimension to the already fashionable handbag industry. There is no doubt that the HiSmart is the first of its kind in providing mobile urban dwellers with a way to move fast and stay connected, all with the touch of a button.

A Meticulous Attitude Leads to a Perfect Design

In today’s life, people have a lot to carry: wallet, tablet, phone, laptop, agenda, pen and all the little things that take care of you. The more technology we have inside, the better we feel. A bag that can contain all the stuff you need becomes vital. But it needed to be modernized for this tech-centered times and having a bag that only carried your stuff was not good enough. So, our designers considered creating a bag that brought technology and you closer together. The solution was the HiSmart.

Our designers strived to design HiSmart for the busy person and for the urban explorer. Their standards were high as they wanted a bag that looked avant-garde while being utilitarian. Every detail was considered to make sure there were benefits and nothing was superfluous. After countless of drafts and samples, they created the solution to the modern era’s tech-filled concerns.
Ingenious Design
This ingenious design is inspired by the design of a conventional backpack experience: two-shoulder-straps are more susceptible to power than just one-shoulder-strap. HiSmart Bag considered style and weight: when you carry less stuff you can use one strap and when you have more things to carry you can transform the bag into two-strap backpack. We used many different prototypes to figure out which method of transformation was the best. We wanted it to be fast and we wanted it to be easy.
Our HiSmart designer also made it suitable to carry all your precious items by inserting 12 pockets inside. Not only is it easier to find things, but with a better organization, you are able to distribute the weight more evenly.

The Special 45° Angle
The shape of a structure affects how strong it is, The triangle is the strongest, most stable geometric shape. It appears frequently in natural and man-made constructions with it being the main and supplementary support elements. There’s a triangle hidden in HiSmart as well. Stable and sturdy morphology can give you a safe and reliable experience both physically and visually. In between the bag strap and bag body, there’s an isosceles right triangle design, it increases the force area by 2 times than average backpack. As a result, it saves 29.29% strength when carrying HiSmart Bag than ordinary bag. This design also extends HiSmart Bag’s usage time as the straps continue to have less pressure.

When you use this bag, you will witness the hard work of the designer in every stitch and every corner.

Setting the Trend: The History and Future of Bags

The main purpose of a bag is, without a doubt, to carry ones personal belongings. However, the bag has transformed from its original purpose as fashion and technology have developed. For over a century the bag has combined practicality with style to create a completely new facet of fashion.
The bag, as a fashion statement, started in Europe in the late 19th century. The handbags that we see women carrying today originally developed out of the need for luggage during travel on the newly built railroads. The latches, pockets, and handles that we see on handbags in the modern era developed from their necessity as luggage pieces during this time period. As the demand for such bags grew, so did their status as a fashionable accessory.
By the Second World War the handbag had become a statement of fashion. However, during this period the handbag took on a more pragmatic role. As women entered the workplace in wartime, they needed a bag that was both fashionable and could serve their needs.
Likewise, the briefcase quickly became the male equivalent of the handbag. It was a sign of both style and sophistication. The briefcase was often associated with successful lawyers, businessmen, and salesmen.
The late 20th century saw the explosion of the handbag as the symbol of modern fashion. Women, and to a lesser extent men, carried handbags of all styles, colors, and fabrics. Well known fashion designers lead the way in producing the most highly sought after bags. These handbags embodied various styles that appealed to a broad range of people.
In the 21st century the bag is changing again especially for men’s bag. We are entering a new digital era where the Internet and being online plays a significant role in our lives. It is only fitting that we are combining elements of our high tech society with the bag. The Lepow HiSmart bridges the gap between technology, practicality, and fashion. The HiSmart is perfect for urban inhabitants who are constantly on the run, and perpetually connected to their phones, laptops, and tablets. The Lepow HiSmart streamlines and consolidates your technology so that you don’t miss a beat. It acts as an extremely efficient extension of your smart devices. You can link up your phone or tablet to the HiSmart in order to answer calls, listen to music, and ensure that you never lose your device, all without taking it out of your bag. The combination of style and technological innovation makes the HiSmart the perfect bag for anyone on the move in the digital age.
