sobbing right now at van wanting to be the hero of the story.

in the teen timeline she's trying to fix the phone to go home and help rescue them. but, misty finds it from stalking van and is able to fix it instead of her then nat finds out about it. so, that moment is taken from her.

but, she finally gets her big hero moment in the adult-timeline saving everyone.

she wanted to be a hero so badly and save someone, anyone, everyone when she has countlessly been the one who has had to be "saved" all throughout her life.

and she finally exprienced it because she was the one who saved the love of her life in her story.

taissa was never the one who was going to save the love of her life. she was always the one going to be saved by the love of her life — van.

it's a textbook tragedy: in the final act where the hero finds one last push of power within themselves before their eventual death, sacrificing themself in the name of love. :(

and she's coming to terms with it here.

she always knew she was going to die, but she's still looking at the bigger picture that she's not a part of (the new storyline) and that's why she is cynical about it — having a "really? that's it?" moment instead of fighting and rejecting her death.

but, her younger self has to remind her that this is her story. this is her life. this is how she goes. that is how her life is written. that action she did was big enough to save and protect everyone in her perspective, in her own life. it may have been a small moment over dramatised, it may have been stupid, it may have been rushed in other perspectives, but in her life it meant something bigger. she may been the love interest, she may have been the side character in their other's plays of life. but, she was the main character in her own life and she was a hero here that stayed to true to herself to the very end.

although she died, there was still goodness inside of her, she refused to become corrupted to the "wilderness", to the "darkness" like a true tragic hero.

EVENTUALLY. she did that EVENTUALLY. Presumably not in the 90s, presumably not until she was an adult, presumably not until the world had changed, my god, people are so deliberately obtuse about this show it kills me. Yes! Eventually, things get better! Isn’t that what Van is getting at when she’s furious in ep 1 of this season? That eventually doesn’t happen all at once? That she wasn’t included in eventually? Just because it gets better in time doesn’t mean it wasn’t terrifying for this teenage girl in 1 9 9 7, good lord, y’all, are you even watching for well-rounded characters or are you just letting the pretty pictures lull you to sleep at night?
