My penultimate dnd character. 4 years of playing and I am finally going to make the perfect character for me.

This is one edition of him.
Hoo boy, time for a backstory
Leshrac Dorian Cypress draws a mixed lineage from the middle nobility mercantile family-- represented by Dorian Cypher, the firstborn son of that generation-- who married into the Mantress family--represented by Eileen Mantress, a gnome daughter of a family of high repute in their society. Their names, and the entire Cypher name, were merged for those two when they married, as it was truly only a marriage for power, and neither side would give up their share of that power. The Cyphers got access to the Mantress' wide tracts of land outside waterdeep, and the Mantress' got access to a family that could develop, and sell the goods from that land (primarily lumber at this time). So, the Cypress family was born. Those two had only one child, Dorian Jr, who eventually took over the family business when his father grew elderly. The difference between gnome and human lifespans being as it was, Eileen maintained heavy control of the business as well, barely showing the advancement of age. It is said she went adventuring one day, as gnomes are want to do, although she has not been heard of much since. Leshrac Dorian Cypress is the firstborn son of Dorian Cypress (Jr) and his wife Shashi Dorian, a minor nobel herself. He was sent to the church at a young age, in an attempt by Shashi to end the perhaps unsavory aspects of the family history, and soon found he was a budding cleric of Ilimater; the God of selfless suffering. Yet, no clerical powers ever flowed from Ilimater to Leshrac. Knowledge of the evil gods was, and is, not forbidden in the city of waterdeep, although the outright worship is frowned upon at least, and would be unheard of from the nobility. Yet leshrac saw himself drawn instinctively to the power that Talona, lady of Chaos and Poisons, offered her clerics. The chaotic concept of a cleric, raised and taught in magics of healing and helping, ultimately desiring to serve the goddess of chaos and poison, delights that perverse goddess. So it was, that one day Leshrac simply sent a missive to his family estate that he was going adventuring. That the church (at his behest) was allowing him to travel and spread the word. Much because the worship he has would not be best shown to prying, prudish eyes. TLdr: he's 1/4 gnome, mercantile nobility, and a life cleric of Talona, the goddess of chaos and poisons.

This kinda makes me want to take the character trait "always believes in signs/symbols" and use this at the DnD table.

Exploring the Character
I NEED to do a voice for this character. I'm going to end up playing him for possibly years, and I want to become immersed in him.
I am thinking a tonal change towards a "wise wizard" style would be best. I recently listened to "The Alchemist" as an audiobook depicted by Jeremy Irons. His old king voice was amazing.
Also, I need to give him some more features.

Character concept
I Love Leshrac Nightwalker from the old Magic the Gathering lore.
He was this badass dark/evil-aligned necromancer/super-mage (all planeswalkers were super mages; they could do anything back then, like superman in the golden age, but worse) who ultimately ended up fighting the flagship bad guy (Nicole Bolas) for dominance as 'ultimate badguy'. He lost, and has been essentially forgotten ever since.
But I will never subject the rest of the table to me playing an evil aligned character. I can't subterfuge well enough, and it'd destroy the party eventually when I messed it up.
I also love clerics. My favorite two PCs I've been have both been clerics; one a war cleric and the other a life cleric. But I also love slinging those high impact spells.
So I essentially want to be a cleric who can heal, spell sling, be a little bit of a necromancer, and not be squishy.
Rough. Seems like he is going to suffer a little bit of what dnd speak is called "MADness" or multiple ability dependency; basically he needs INT to be a spell slinger, WIS to be a cleric, and both DEX and CON to not be squishy. Leaving CHA and STR as the only dump stats.
I also probably want to be a gnome, because I love gnomes. They're just really cool. I have this headcannon where all of my DnD characters are part of the same family, and they're all kinda half blooded mutts of all different species. But I've realized lately that gnomes are really fun to me, so I'm leading towards a few generations of Gnomish blood.
Also, I'm an MTG nerd, and I have the dimir symbol tattooed on my bicept. So I'll go with the dimir operative BG and tailor/reflavor/homebrew it to the campaign.
