So I'm a bass clarinetist by nature but whenever I play my Bb clarinet it's always extremely flat, no matter what time of year. Could it be the clarinet because it's wooden or could it be because my embouchure is too loose because of bass? Thanks!
It’s possible that your embouchure is too loose from your bass clarinet playing, but it’s also likely that you’re merely over-blowing. The bass clarinet requires much more air than the soprano does, so you could easily be overcompensating. Try working on some long tones with a tuner or a drone! I like to work on my scales and arpeggios with a drone slowly; it will help you learn the natural tendencies of your instrument and help you tune intervals quickly!!
