“I guess that there were a lot of things I did when I was still baby Conner, that people would consider endearing,” he admitted, he was so naive and innocent back then. It was hard to believe that he was ever like that, sometimes he forgot. It also seemed such a long time ago.
“He seems more at ease around me, and seems to judge me less, so maybe he would be up to talk to me about it,” he honestly haven’t spent a lot of time with Kyle though. But the last time they talked, it was a nice conversation.
“I didn’t use any amount of strength to do it,” he told him, “I used techniques, you forget sometimes who taught me, don’t you?”
“Hey, I loved baby Conner.” Wally leaned close and pinched one of Conner’s cheeks playfully. “I think I did an awesome job raising you.” Total lie. Wally probably was the least involved in actually raising Conner and more involved in playing games like using the super computer in headquarters to play video games and seeing how many marshmallows they could fit in their mouths.
“Got to take those small wins, man.” The speedster gave a half shrug. He could only take a guess as to Kyle’s change in attitude toward Conner. Maybe they were finally growing up. Or maybe it was because they were each other’s last bit of home left.
No. No negative thoughts. It was his birthday.
“Yeah, yeah. It was a big spooky vampire.” Wally joked, putting his hand up beside his head like pointed ears and showing a deeply serious face.

“I’m glad you think that, because I just think it was dumb,” if it was someone else that had done it, maybe he would find endearing, but there were some times that when he did, he just wished he could go back and never do it. But at least his friends seemed to have liked it.
“I would be up for it,” he didn’t need to eat, but that wouldn’t stop him from doing it. Especially when he could eat as much as he wanted.
Didn’t he tell Wally about Lena? By his reaction was clear that he didn’t, but he could have swore that he mentioned it, “I will talk to her,” he said with a small smile, “Wait, Kyle works for her?” did he tell him that? Or maybe she did it, he honestly couldn’t remember if anyone ever did before. His memory could be terrible, “I met her at a bar, after knocking a guy out.”
“It was a sweet and endearing move from innocent baby Conner.” Of course, Conner was never actually a baby but there was a time that he wasn’t as worldly as he was now. Despite their age difference, Wally still liked to think of Conner as his little brother.
Wally smiled in return, happy that it seemed life on Earth-1 was a positive experience for his friends - thanks, in part, to Lena Luthor. So it was no problem with him to extend the birthday party invites out to her.
“Yeah, he like draws arty things for her projects... or something like that. He could probably tell you exactly what he does. I just think it’s great that the Glowstick finally has another fan of his work.” Wally explained with a smirk and a shrug. He really was proud of Kyle and thought his artwork was neat, but some of the art things he babbled about went over his head.
“Hope you held back. That super strength of yours could do some damage.” And then some... Wally added the last thought to himself.

“Well, that’s a start.” Nyssa noted with a small laugh at his response. “I will be happy to teach you to use it properly. Wielding a blade is as much an art-form as it is about fighting. It’s still rewarding to learn its use properly even if you have no intention of using it.”
Wally chuckled along with Nyssa’s small laugh, glad his response was seen as humorous. He nodded, listening and finding himself agreeing with what Nyssa said about it being an art form. “Similar to running, I guess. Movement and form need to be correct otherwise it’s head over tail and a face full of gravel. Yeah?” Wally tried to make a comparison.
“I’d love to learn. Maybe it might... I don’t know... teach me to slow down. Some discipline.” He continued, picking up the blade and testing the weight of it in his hand. He chuckled again, eyeing the way the blade caught the light. “I don’t even know if I’m holding it right now.”
“What does the writing on it say?” Wally asked, noting some engraving near the hilt.

“You have a type, Wally. There’s always a sprinkling of non-blondes here and there but you’ve got a sweet tooth for the golden haired beauties. I mean I haven’t forgotten the whole Artemis fiasco.” Kyle singed with a trilling mirth. “Lilith was a nice change of pace though. Get it?” The hilarity of his own quip brushed the annoyance of their current living quarters off his shoulders.
His hands fell over his chest with a mocking cry. “Why you gotta blow up confidence up like that, Wallace. I thought we were friends. I mean Donna is way more Daddy than I but–you are my best friend. You’re supposed to hype my ass up,” he said with a deflated pout. Kyle sunk comfortably into Wally’s gait.
“We’re off to Joe’s Pizza in the West Village and no speed. We need to take the subway to observe the rats in their home tunnels.”
“Pfft, whatever. You know Artemis dyes her hair, right?” Wally responded, sticking out his tongue - maturity be damned. “Your type is easy to pick. Dark haired beauties that can kick your ass and won’t hesitate to either.” Wally knew the easy banter drew the attention away from their living quarters and set about bringing a layer of normalcy to the situation. And that’s what Wally wanted more than anything - a fun, normal weekend away with one of his best friends.
“Your ass is perky and fine... not quite Nightwing levels of fine but I don’t think anyone’s ass will gain a cult following and full facebook page dedication to it like his.” The cheeky speedster grinned, his mirth hyping him up for the adventure they were undertaking.
“West Village? You mean my Village.” He chuckled at his own joke as he continued. “Okay, no speed. Unless I see a subway gator. I ain’t messing with no subway gator.”

last--son:
Managing to tame his laughter a little, he smiled again, definite fondness in the expression but with a touch of regret. “Most of us, there are some bad eggs among the clutch.” Such as it was with any society the Kryptonians weren’t infallible, corruption was everywhere, just look at Zod.
Taking a sip of his coffee, he studied Wally carefully, knowing that his mentioning of the young man’s teammates might strike differently while he was separated from them, possibly forever. He hoped that others from Wally’s world had escaped it’s destruction as the redhead had.
“He did and he thrived with the team, far more than he would have if he’d just gone out on his own, or even with me.” Running his thumb along the lip of the cup he sighed quietly. “I wish I knew he was okay.”
“Hey, us Earthlings aren’t perfect either. There’s more than a few rotten ones among us. But I guess I don’t have to tell you that.” Wally replied softly, understanding completely that the universes were made up of good and bad. There was no way he would judge a whole planet based on the actions of the individual.
The thought that another son of Krypton had joined the ranks of the Titans, and had thrived on the team, warmed Wally’s heart. In Wally’s experience the team built each other up. They held a rare spark. It wasn’t just about super powers and saving the day. They were friends. And friends wanted to bring the best out of each other.
Wally reached out and put a comforting hand on Kal’s shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. “Don’t worry, Big Blue.” He spoke with a small encouraging smile. “If the team on your Earth is anything like mine, they’ll watch out for your boy. In fact, he is probably just as worried about you. You’re out here in the unknown while he has your family back home to support him.”

Dawn smiled at the way Wally had run around the Watchtower looking at everything. Within in five heartbeats he had seen everything, but he was still excited to show everyone else. “Dick hacked them, but we never looked. I think it was more COULD he do it then wanting to see what they were doing,” Dawn said with a smile.
“No; I realized that even if Kyle came back, he wasn’t the man that had left. He wouldn’t be the one that I had wanted to spend the rest of my life with, but I also knew I wasn’t strong enough to be the person he needed me to be. The person that could release him. “
“I'm sensing a common theme here. Never a matter of should we do it, but whether we could.” There was an edge of bitter-sweetness to Wally’s voice as if he was caught in a memory momentarily. Wally’s time on the Titans was filled with laughter and deep friendships - memories he’d cherish forever.
“That’s the biggest load of crap I ever I heard.” Wally threw his opinion out there with the subtly of a sledgehammer to a brick wall. “You’re strong, Dawn. One of the strongest people I know.” The redhead automatically pulled her into another embrace.
“But you’re also right... your Kyle would have changed. Ditto for you. You’ve changed too.” He continued, understanding the struggle to want things to be the way they were but also accepting that they never could be. “I know it’s easier said than done but sometimes you just have to let go of the past. The worlds are constantly moving, changing, and if you don’t keep the pace you’re going to get lost.”
Wally didn’t know if what he was saying was more for Dawn’s benefit or his own. They had both loved and lost. Both had been set adrift onto an Earth that was not their own. But there had to be some reason behind the collision course the universe had put them on, right?
“The opportunity with Kyle might come up again. Might not either.” He continued with a small shrug, keeping a comforting arm around her. “Just try not to get stuck in the moment, otherwise other moments - other opportunities - will pass you by.”

“It’s tradition.” Nyssa replied with a small shrug. Gift-giving hadn’t been part of her own growing up, but she still understood the concept for birthdays. “Besides, in this city it is imperative you have something to defend yourself.”
Wally smiled, knowing he couldn’t argue with her logical response. Besides, it would have been rude to not accept the unexpected gift. He opened it, not entirely sure what would be hiding in the box, but what he saw had his jaw drop in surprise.
“You weren’t kidding. Wow, Nyssa, this is... great.” He replied, still a little flabbergasted that he was just gifted a sword. “You might have to give me a few pointers on how to use it though. Alls I know is pointy bit goes into bad guy.”

“There you go, so I was already better than some years,” he pointed out, he was terrible at wrapping it too, this time he asked for help, otherwise he would have done such an awful job.
Cheese was one of his favorite things to eat, so the thought of he ever being sick of something that had it, was almost laughable to him, “Please, you know my love for cheese, I doubt that’s gonna happen.”
Cooking could not be something that he was an expert at, but he could still do some things, but since he said food was already sorted, “I will bring some drinks, and may invite Lena, I got really close to the one from earth 38, you met her?”
“Sure are. Although I do have fond memories of the time you gave everyone on the team Christmas presents wrapped in our own pillow cases. That was special.” Wally chuckled. Conner tried and his heart was in the right place. That was all Wally could ask for in a friend.
“Now I got this baby, we can test that theory out. See who the real lover of cheese is.” The redhead patted the box of the grilled cheese maker. Of course, it wasn’t a real competition. Just friendly banter.
Wally’s head tilted at the unexpected guest Conner wanted to invite. Not that he was oppose to Lena - she seemed like a nice woman - but he knew about the ‘family’ connections. “Yeah? That’d be cool if she can come.” Wally smiled and gave a little nod. “I met her briefly. Kyle knows her better than me though... she’s his boss. How’d you meet her?”

“Cakes are an obligatory item for all celebrations. You get married there’s a cake. You get divorced there’s a cake. You die–people bring savory cakes aka casseroles. You only get gifts on your birthday and whatever celebratory holiday that you use to worship to your deity of choice.” Tim shrugged. “I do not,” his scowl didn’t stick. Tim couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of his words.
“I’m not a sadist. Why would I gift you with something you already have free access to at work. I thought an upgrade would be better suited for your nightly activities.”
“The one and only.” Tim gestured dramatically for flair. “I have seen what you could do for this city. Everyone needs someone willing to invest in their success. Plus, the chucks you’re wearing don’t seem like they give you much support when you run.”
Wally laughed at Tim’s little speech about cake and gifts - it sounded so structured to the speedster, like Tim had a schedule for everything. “Well considering I haven’t got any plans to get married, divorced or die any time soon... I gotta take as much cake as I can on the celebrations I do have.”
At the scowl, Wally just grinned in a way that dared Tim to continue to deny it. His own laugh rang out again when Tim broke and their amusement mingled in a chorus of joy.
Wally picked up one of the boots, turning it over in his hands and inspecting the craftsmanship. It was heavy duty and would undoubtedly withstand wear and tear, but it was also lightweight and easy to move about in.
His eyes drifted back to Tim as he continued speaking. “You know... this sounds awfully like you’re trying to butter me up to join your team or something.” There was a teasing note to the speedster’s voice but also enough hint of curiosity to try and figure the other man’s plan out. “You have amazing powers, Wally. Have a gift that’ll help you harness your success, Wally. Next step is usually... Join my team, Wally, we’ll save the day.”

“Happy Birthday. Well, I wanted to. I promise it’s not much,” Amaya assured as she handed over a small package. Inside was a gift card to one of the fanciest delis around; she knew Wally loved his grilled cheeses and thought if he could choose from some of the nicest varieties of cheeses for them, it might be a fun venture. “But I hope you’re having a good one. Did you get any cake?”
Wally beamed with joy as he took the small package, grateful to have friends that thoughtful enough to gift him with something. He tore open the wrapping and practically bounced with excitement. “Oh wow! Thank you so much, Amaya.” He gushed over the gift card before giving Amaya no chance to escape a quick tight hug of appreciation. “I’ve been meaning to try their cheeses. I heard they also bake their bread on site and the sourdough is out of this world. This is perfect, thank you.”
At the mention of cake Wally’s head bobbed up and down at a rapid pace. “We’ve got cake for days.” He answered, setting the gift card down in a safe spot and then leading Amaya to the kitchen. The island benchtop was covered in boxes and boxes of cupcakes. “I couldn’t decide what flavour was my favourite, so got them all.”

“You’re underestimating me, just because I’m not the best at gifting, doesn’t mean I’m that bad,” he always had a hard time to know what to pick, because he ended up over thinking a lot, and a lot of times, he just wanted to buy everything for the person, especially when it was someone he was close to, “I’m glad you enjoyed it, who doesn’t like grilled cheese?”
He knew Wally in a while, so he gave him all kinds of gifts, which was one of the reasons why was so hard to pick one, as there weren’t many that he didn’t give him already.
“Since when I turn down a party? Of course I’m in.”
“True. Least you remembered to wrap it this year.” Wally continued to tease. He knew Conner would have got him one of everything if he could, but honestly, Wally was just happy to have people around him that cared.
“Dude... this is a game changer.” He beamed brightly at the other young man. “I’m gonna make so many sandwiches, yous are all gonna be sick of the sight of them.” It sounded like a threat. But in actual fact, Wally would use the grilled cheese maker for every meal if someone didn’t take it off him.
“Ha, knew that would be your answer.” Wally crowed a little with laughter. “Bring your own drinks. Bring a friend. Bring many friends. Pretty sure food was sorted, but hey, if you wanna bring more then I ain’t going to stop you. Most of all... bring yourself.”

Mick looked around, surprised at the redhead’s words. “Buy?” He clearly didn’t know Mick all that well.
“Buy... I meant liberate. That’s what you call shopping without purchase these days, isn’t it?” Wally chuckled with a shake of his head.
“So I’m not going to be expecting the cops banging down the door anytime soon to get this back, am I?” The redhead continued, his tone half joking as he opened the box and took a peek inside.

“You got a think for cute blondes, Wal. Branch out,” he scoffed with a playful roll of the eyes. “And yes she’s the attractive blonde one.” Kyle watched the mirthful wheels turning in his head. There wasn’t a chance in hell that the cheeky speedster would let this little fiasco go. Kyle dropped back into the bed covered in the silky petals. The various shades of red and pink discs fell through his fingers and billowed gently back down along the duvet.
Well this is a great way to start this weekend.
“I’m never the one who starfishes, Wally. That’s always been you!” Kyle grumbled with a pointed look. Wally’s speed still astonished the green glowing lantern whenever he got to witness it up close. Without the rush of air that passed along his skin or the few disturbed pieces of paper, not a single being would be able to catch the swift heeled ginger. There was beauty in speed but agony in those who wield it. Kyle couldn’t fathom the amount of patience that Wally needed to get through the day.
“Call me daddy and I’ll consider it.” Kyle chuckled before bouncing up from his seated position to sling his arm around Wally’s shoulder. “We’re going to show that pizza rat who’s the real pizza king.”
“I do not have a thing.” Wally looked at Kyle like he had grown an extra head. “I’ve dated plenty of non-blondes. Lilith wasn’t blonde. She’s a red head.” Despite his semi-defensive tone, Wally knew Kyle was just teasing him. It was just the way their friendship worked.
At the pointed look Kyle was giving him, Wally broke out into another round of laughter. “Yeah, yeah, we’ll see about that, Glowstick.” It sounded like a threat. Maybe it was. Wally did love to prove a point.
“In your dreams. Donna is more daddy than you,” Wally poked his tongue out playfully at the request, automatically wrapping an arm around Kyle to pull him close to his side when the other slung an arm around him. “So... where to? You got a specific pizza place in mind before we hit the subway?”

“You’re welcome. My Wally had one on top to the Titans Tower and would tease the JLA he could see everything they did. You can imagine how he reacted once he got to go up to the Watchtower. He’d spend hours up there just watching space.”
Dawn froze feeling Wally’s embrace before sinking into the warmth. Funny, it must be a multiverse rule that Wally West gave some of the best hugs.
Dawn stuttered, “Um, he stuck with stars after we lost Kyle,” she said quietly remembering the pain that Wally went through when word reached Earth of what happened to the Lantern. “He - he lost his love for Space exploration not long after that. But we liked to thing that if Kyle could he’d send us a message in the stars. So Wally never got rid of it.”
Wally listened, imaging the excitement Dawn’s Wally must have felt to finally get the chance to go up to the Watchtower. It would be a dream come true. The more he heard about him, the more Wally felt like they had so much in common. “We kind of did the same back on my Earth. Except it wasn’t a telescope, rather we hacked into the security cameras. The big guys... they weren’t exactly impressed.”
One thing about Wally’s hugs was that he never really knew when to let go, which could lead to some awkward situations. He felt Dawn freeze in his hug, which in turn only made him hug tighter.
After a moment, Wally peeled back and let Dawn continue to speak. “He never lost hope.” Wally smiled gently, understanding that need to have something to hold onto. “What about you? You still like looking at stars?”

“Shut up!” she laughed. It felt like forever since a true laugh left her mouth. It was hard to hide the pain she was experiencing. She shook her head at his excitement over a wallet. “What I see the things you need and as much as I love the Ninja Turtles one, you’re in need of a new one,” she smiled giving him a hug.
“You’re welcome. You can still act like a kid, but you need space because this one isn’t gonna cut it much longer,” she gave him a look as she picked up his old wallet.
Wally laughed along with Iris, knowing she had been having a rough time lately and glad he could draw a positive reaction out of her. It just went to show, in Wally’s opinion, that even though times could be tough - Iris West was tougher.
He squeezed her tight in the hug before releasing her, saying that he appreciated all that she had done for him with the action. “That wallet is a classic. But you’re right. Probably belongs in a museum.” He chuckled good-naturedly.
“Space? You mean for the millions I’ll never have.” He laughed again. Wally knew the meagre contents didn’t look like much but he had what he needed. “I do love that you didn’t go for boring old black or brown though. The dark red is nice. Grown up without being too... you know, grown up.”

“Of course I did!” he knew that gifts weren’t the most important thing, but he couldn’t just not give him anything, “A thank you for all the times you were there for me.”
“It’s not a box of your dirty laundry, is it?” Wally joked easily, the wide grin on his face clearly stating there wasn’t an ounce of seriousness to his question. He tore into the packaging, tossing the shredded wrapping paper aside and looking at the gift. “Oh wow! Thanks! Always wanted a grilled cheese sandwich maker of my own. Love it!”
His words were completely honest. Wally loved any and all gifts his friends gave him. He was a firm believer in the theory that it was always the thought that mattered.
“So, you coming to the party tonight? Kyle says he has major plans for this one. I’m a little scared but mostly curious. So how ‘bout it? You in?”

“Don’t get too excited, Speedy, it’s a telescope. Makes sure you get out of that lab once in awhile. My Wally loved looking at the stars. He always wanted to find a new one and name it after himself.”
“Shut the front door!” Wally exclaimed, getting excited despite Dawn telling him not to. He unwrapped the gift and opened the box, looking in pure awe of the telescope. “It’s beautiful, Dawn. Thank you.”
Without any hesitation Wally wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug, squeezing a little with enthusiastic appreciation. Wally may have talked a lot but his actions spoke volumes. Peeling back after a moment or two, Wally smiled at hearing what Dawn’s Wally was like. He’d never get tired of hearing about the other Wally Wests out there in the vast multiverse.
“We have that in common.” The redhead chuckled, eyes wandering back to the telescope. “Kinda of. I mean... why limit it to just stars? Why not try and find a whole planet?”
