gee! i sure do love this complex female character with COMPLEX thoughts and COMPLEX feelings and COMPLEX reasons for her actions. surely the fandom wont villainize her and make her into a irredeemable monster for doing something even slightly unkind! (male character has done something a 100x worse.) looks at social media oh! well surely they wont water down her character into a single trait and/or only examine her at surface level and then proceed to misunderstand her entire personality, motives, and values! looks at social media again oh.

God Ragatha always being belittled and made to feel guilty for not being perfectly demure and well-behaved and facing backlash for just being herself. And then people hate her for doing what she was told to her entire life. And then she finally does what they tell her to do and then just give her mortified looks for it. Making Ragatha feel guilty for expressing negativity like her mother all over again. Girl could start hallucinating her mother’s face over everyone else’s and it’d make perfect sense for her state of mind. She’s been haunted by her mother and shaped by her mother and is now trying to be a mother to her own adult peers because being a woman is fucking insane.

Imagine. You are a cashier at a gas station in japanifornia. A HAWK swoops down, grabbing a plastic package of bean buns from the shelves, then LANDS on the counter. It sticks its beak into its bandana (it is wearing a bandana) and pulls out a wad of bills. Sets the money on the counter. Flies away.
Just as you're recovering from the sheer wtf, the bird flies back in and shows you a drivers liscense and you realize, oh yeah, that has alcohol in it.
The picture on the ID is a scowling man.
The hawk is also in the photo.
He's over twenty one.
You let the hawk go.

Controversial opinion: I think that My Stubborn is actually well written, especially for a relatively low budget bl/ql.
There have been plenty of cheap and smutty bls and expensive and smutty bls but, as I’ve seen other people say too, My Stubborn just hits different and better than anything else. I think it’s because the writing is, for the most part, good. I mean the plot is solid and engaging, the characters are well defined, and the pacing keeps your attention without getting too convoluted or boring. We understand the characters and their motivations and we’re excited about where the plot is going. The actors and director are doing a great job and their nc scenes are insane, but I don’t think that it would be hitting nearly as hard as it is if the writing wasn’t solid too

Homemaking, gardening, and self-sufficiency resources that won't radicalize you into a hate group
It seems like self-sufficiency and homemaking skills are blowing up right now. With the COVID-19 pandemic and the current economic crisis, a lot of folks, especially young people, are looking to develop skills that will help them be a little bit less dependent on our consumerist economy. And I think that's generally a good thing. I think more of us should know how to cook a meal from scratch, grow our own vegetables, and mend our own clothes. Those are good skills to have.
Unfortunately, these "self-sufficiency" skills are often used as a recruiting tactic by white supremacists, TERFs, and other hate groups. They become a way to reconnect to or relive the "good old days," a romanticized (false) past before modern society and civil rights. And for a lot of people, these skills are inseparably connected to their politics and may even be used as a tool to indoctrinate new people.
In the spirit of building safe communities, here's a complete list of the safe resources I've found for learning homemaking, gardening, and related skills. Safe for me means queer- and trans-friendly, inclusive of different races and cultures, does not contain Christian preaching, and does not contain white supremacist or TERF dog whistles.
Homemaking/Housekeeping/Caring for your home:
Making It by Kelly Coyne and Erik Knutzen [book] (The big crunchy household DIY book; includes every level of self-sufficiency from making your own toothpaste and laundry soap to setting up raised beds to butchering a chicken. Authors are explicitly left-leaning.)
Safe and Sound: A Renter-Friendly Guide to Home Repair by Mercury Stardust [book] (A guide to simple home repair tasks, written with rentals in mind; very compassionate and accessible language.)
How To Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis [book] (The book about cleaning and housework for people who get overwhelmed by cleaning and housework, based on the premise that messiness is not a moral failing; disability and neurodivergence friendly; genuinely changed how I approach cleaning tasks.)
Gardening
Rebel Gardening by Alessandro Vitale [book] (Really great introduction to urban gardening; explicitly discusses renter-friendly garden designs in small spaces; lots of DIY solutions using recycled materials; note that the author lives in England, so check if plants are invasive in your area before putting them in the ground.)
Country/Rural Living:
Woodsqueer by Gretchen Legler [book] (Memoir of a lesbian who lives and works on a rural farm in Maine with her wife; does a good job of showing what it's like to be queer in a rural space; CW for mentions of domestic violence, infidelity/cheating, and internalized homophobia)
"Debunking the Off-Grid Fantasy" by Maggie Mae Fish [video essay] (Deconstructs the off-grid lifestyle and the myth of self-reliance)
Sewing/Mending:
Annika Victoria [YouTube channel] (No longer active, but their videos are still a great resource for anyone learning to sew; check out the beginner project playlist to start. This is where I learned a lot of what I know about sewing.)
Make, Sew, and Mend by Bernadette Banner [book] (A very thorough written introduction to hand-sewing, written by a clothing historian; lots of fun garment history facts; explicitly inclusive of BIPOC, queer, and trans sewists.)
Sustainability/Land Stewardship
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer [book] (Most of you have probably already read this one or had it recommended to you, but it really is that good; excellent example of how traditional animist beliefs -- in this case, indigenous American beliefs -- can exist in healthy symbiosis with science; more philosophy than how-to, but a great foundational resource.)
Wild Witchcraft by Rebecca Beyer [book] (This one is for my fellow witches; one of my favorite witchcraft books, and an excellent example of a place-based practice deeply rooted in the land.)
Avoiding the "Crunchy to Alt Right Pipeline"
Note: the "crunchy to alt-right pipeline" is a term used to describe how white supremacists and other far right groups use "crunchy" spaces (i.e., spaces dedicated to farming, homemaking, alternative medicine, simple living/slow living, etc.) to recruit and indoctrinate people into their movements. Knowing how this recruitment works can help you recognize it when you do encounter it and avoid being influenced by it.
"The Crunchy-to-Alt-Right Pipeline" by Kathleen Belew [magazine article] (Good, short introduction to this issue and its history.)
Sisters in Hate by Seyward Darby (I feel like I need to give a content warning: this book contains explicit descriptions of racism, white supremacy, and Neo Nazis, and it's a very difficult read, but it really is a great, in-depth breakdown of the role women play in the alt-right; also explicitly addresses the crunchy to alt-right pipeline.)
These are just the resources I've personally found helpful, so if anyone else has any they want to add, please, please do!

look. here’s the thing. If you have a relative or family friend or some such who does a craft/hobby/skill that you’ve “always wanted to learn” you should ask them about it. Your grandma does embroidery and you want to learn? Sit down one day, or call her, or write a letter, or something, and say “I am interested in learning this craft.” There’s basically zero chance that Uncle Francis is gonna refuse to teach you about his model ships. Grandma is THRILLED to show you her quilting. Ms Barbara from the church bake sale WILL teach you how to make the fudge that made her second husband propose.
your friends and contemporaries are also a tremendous resource, and you should ask them too! But there’s just no replacement for the expertise of someone who has been knitting for sixty years. Part of this, also, is that older crafters can often give you materials to help you start, and your broke millennial friends usually can’t. My mom has more wool than she will ever use in her life, and she knows it. When one of my friends wanted to start knitting, my mom just gave her this gorgeous silver handspun yarn she’d made but wasn’t attached to. Yarn like that is expensive! Handspun yarn from someone who has been spinning for thirty years doesn’t often happen to beginners! And starting with good materials is better than starting with bad, because it helps you develop taste and a sense of quality more quickly.
Experienced crafters are often able to help you avoid learning bad or damaging habits—as a teenager, my sewing teacher spent a lot of time teaching me how to do things so that I didn’t get repetitive stress injuries (like she did). They’re going to be able to lend you books, send you ancient angelfire html pages with the most exacting instructions on earth, show you the good places to get crafting supplies that aren’t am*zon.
But you have to ask. Do not wait until these people are dead, and then say “I wish I knew.” You have to do it now, while you can.

People have such a weird chip on their shoulders about Stolas wanting or needing to be saved, especially when it relates to his connecting it with being loved. The accepted logic is that he wants to be saved because it is a grand gesture like in his romance novels and he needs to have a "reality check" about what "real love" is really like.
The man has spent 17 years being tormented by his abusive wife, with little hope of escape or ever leaving that situation, with no support system and no one caring about him except his daughter. Of course he associates being saved to being loved! Being saved from his miserable existence is probably what he has dreamed about for years at this point. It's why it hits him so hard when Blitz saved him from Andrealphus. This is probably the first time anyone has ever defended him from the abuse he and Stella inflicted on him.
As for the "cliche" part, I don't see in what way. I mean, I can see the parody/references to "knight saving princess" tropes, but for me, it's more about having fun with them. They had to save Stolas somehow, so might as well making it fun and interesting! Plus seeing them managing to fight back against Andrealphus is cathartic after all the shit he's pulled.
I totally get everyone has preferences and their own likes and dislikes, but it still baffles me when people say the Andrealphus fight was their least fave scene in Sinsmas and some even wish it wasn't in the episode at all....
Like, respectfully disagree /gen, but that is literally my fave scene in Sinsmas (at most it's tied with the balcony dance) on top of Sinsmas being my fave episode in the entire show and I can't think of a single scene in that episode I genuinely didn't like.
What can I say, I'm a simple girl. I see a damsel in distress getting rescued by their knight in shining armor as they kiss while falling through the sky and I fold!
Not to mention it ends with Octavia being a total badass! And then it goes right into heartbreak, ahahaaaa... I'm fine.

Hey kid you want a job?
Great get online and go to a job board. Indeed, Linkedin whatever. Now you're gonna search for a role that's in your city, fits your qualifications, and doesn't seem like a bad time.
See that easy apply button? Don't hit it they just throw those in the trash. Now you're gonna want to go to the company's website and check their careers page.
Oh? That job doesn't exist anymore. Cool go back to the job board and find another one.
Great you found another job, you're on the company's career page and the job exists!! So you're going to need to make an account on the career page website. They're using Workday, the same site as the last job you applied for? Who cares? You need to make another account for THIS job's workday page.
Now you're going to upload your resume. That'll autopopulate about 15 boxes with everything on your resume, except formatted wrong and with tons of errors. So just go through and painstakingly check the dates on all of that and rewrite everything you already laid out in an aesthetically pleasing format on your resume.
Ok time for the cover letter, explain why this specific job and company are deeply important to you. You love their mission statement and wouldn't even laugh if their ceo was gunned down in the street. You'll really want to reiterate the things you just spent the last 20 minutes filling out on the resume section
(Remember to include language from the job description, people who work in HR are lower than dogs and they need patterns or they get confused.) Write about a page, but hey don't sound too desperate or robotic this is where they judge your character!
Maybe add your portfolio site at the end here, who knows if that helps no one has ever clicked mine haha.
Anywayyy time to hit apply! Congrats! You'll see that confirmation email come in and you should be getting the rejection letter in about 2 weeks. Unfortunately your resume didn't have the right buzzwords and the AI auto rejected you :(
Time to start again and try not to kill yourself!
