Celebrities
We didn’t start the fire, but the fire’s been burning a little less bright, wouldn’t you say?
People die everyday but lately all I can read in the news is the passing of a great, beloved hero. I think one of the first examples in this recent string of events would have been Gunnar Hansen (Leatherface from 1974′s Texas Chain Saw Massacre) and I was pretty much stunned to see his name in a facebook trending bar. Because of the size of the circles he occupied, seeing his name on the front page could only mean one thing. As upsetting as it was (he was fairly young in terms of life expectancy) the world would carry on.
But then came other people’s idols. Lemmy, Bowie; all legends taken from us. But I wonder if there’s a strange connection with the birth of Hollywood/the remnants of “The Golden Age of Cinema” in the late 60′s with the amount of celebrities we can recognize? In 1920, how many prolific 60-80 year-olds who excelled in their field were mourned globally?
The Golden Age of Cinema died because it gave way to The Golden Age of Everything; musicians (The Beatles, Stones) authors (Stephen King, James Patterson) actors and actresses (I’m not even gonna bother quantifying this one) and personalities of all sorts (I wouldn’t call Nancy Cartwright a star the same way I’d call Adele a star, but they’re both globally beloved in that sense). Unlike The Golden Age of Cinema, The Golden Age of Everything included those outside of California/America.
But when the Golden Age of Everything etched so many people into our culture, this era shall too be destroyed by The Golden Age of Obituaries; beloved individuals who rose to prominence from 1970-2016 have just about run out of time, despite what their admirers think about their invincible, legendary idols. If you experience someone’s performance (film, music, the written word) over and over, you start to associate the eternity of that work with the people who made it. And it’s only been since the Golden Age of Everything that we’ve been this spoiled for choice as the entertained masses. Anybody else seeking alternatives in film, music and the written word is looking back to the early 1900′s or farther and they understand without even having to contemplate that whoever created these beautiful pieces of art are long gone. Someone has done the hard part of mourning for them, and they are free to enjoy the fruits of that individual’s labor.
So as the days go by, will the death of Keith Richards, Betty White, Jane Goodall shock the world? Undoubtedly. But there is no conspiracy happening, no connected thread. All living generations have had rich lives imbued with the efforts and accomplishments of many people we will never even meet. Or thank. Maybe even know about (twitter posts by teenagers saying “David Bowie, who?” anyone?). But that will be the best part about The Golden Age of Obituaries; when we’re done reading the daily entry, we can lose ourselves in their contributions to this Earth and be inspired enough to keep this fire burning as the world keeps turning.

We Need Save Points
I’m hoping this will morph into future lyrics. We’ll see.
How would you use save points? I'd plot out life's story line, It’s varying endings dependent on our decisions.
Infinite replay-ability suggests We'd get to finish all the side quests Or get some glory-seeking sucker to Do our jobs for us And with all that free time We'd get to play every video game ever made Escapist armchair heroism Never felt so great
The girl who has everything Would bring down comets to kill spiders Reload her save and ask someone else to kill it anyway; The glory-seeking sucker who saves the world An hour or ten a day

Logomachy
Language is the music we use To charm the snakes That guard another’s treasure And logomachy is a war Where the weapons are words And the wounds are punctures in the swim-bladder of self-esteem A battle in which the vanquished Are unconscious of their defeat So victors are denied the reward Of success It’s said by many of the scholar men Poor souls died of the fool’s pen Sadly We cannot know this to be true For reading the fools wit We perish too

Two generations of Tinsley dudes playing music. Thing is, that little guy in the sweater on the right is my father. I was visiting my Grandpa in England and couldn't help but snap a pic due to our uncanny resemblance to each other (I know right, it's like we're related or something). Growing up in Canada with no other network of family close at hand, I've gone my entire life without these moments and memories and I figured what better time to share it than on Fathers Day.

"Time Travel"
I had a thought; There just aren’t enough heart-broken scientists Who had fallen in love with you so completely Only to watch you slowly vanish from their existence The slow painful vanish that rends a heart molecule from screaming molecule If there were Surely we’d all be reaping the benefits of time travel by now Except for you You had your reasons But somewhere Out there Are innumerable realities where you fall out of love with these scientists For innumerable reasons And you’re still stuck with them You’re not smart enough to solve your own problems like they did.
