“Bilingualism strikes me as a kind of synesthesia. Instead of seeing colors associated with letters and words, instead of hearing melodies, what I hear with language is the play and echo of the other language. The option to say it differently, and thus to live it differently…”
— Yoojin Grace Wuertz, from “Mother Tongue" (via weissewiese)

TED TALKS IN DIFFERENT LANGAUGES
I was watching TED talks, as you do, and thought ha I wonder how many languages they have and I stumbled across this language heaven! They have over 100 languages and subtitles are available in various languages which is honestly terrific! I think the scope and depth of topics offered by TED talks could be a great way to broaden your vocabulary in areas which you wouldn’t otherwise be able to particularly for intermediate and advanced learners. Anyway happy watching and learning! (Links down below, click read-more link.)

I just love how in English you say “great minds think alike”, which is a completely positive thing since you’re kinda praising yourself, but in German you go like “zwei Dumme, ein Gedanke” = “two fools, one thought”
German is beautiful, isn’t it

In light of those Russian fish memes
I would like to bring to you all a wonderful discovery: The German ‘Verwechslungsgefahr’ memes!
The meme translates into ‘danger/risk of confusion’ and depicts a series of homonyms and amusing situations. I’ve actually been using this to expand my German vocabulary. Here are some of my favorite examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BEWARE! If you type it into google images, you’ll most likely come across a few offensive examples, so browse carefully!
Enjoy your European memeing
