chapter 1: home for the weekend
Ever since I left Indonesia to study in Singapore, my curiosity towards Indonesian culture had strangely emerged. It was strange how being away made me aware of the beauty of my home country more than ever.
Each time there was a need to return to Indonesia, I always made time to ensure a day was for art. In each of those trips, I would always try to expand knowledge of Indonesian art. From this year’s trips my most memorable and fascinating experience was learning about Batik.
For tourists, Batik is the immediate thought they get when asked about Indonesian art. It is the most mainstream form of Indonesian art and actually one of the most complicated. For these two reasons, I wasn’t as interested. Beforehand, I thought its accessibility makes the art less unique. As I spontaneously began to get a closer look. I finally the worth of the art as well as the striking process that comes with it
