One of hundreds of letters sent to CBS after “Abyssinia Henry” aired 50 years ago today on March 18th, 1975. Many of them were from young children.

Last summer I started working on a project with these letters where I tracked down and spoke to many of the children who wrote them (now in their 60s). The project is on hold until I finish this school year, but I leaving cryptic messages on the answering machines of America's boomers resulted in some of the best conversations I've ever had. I'll keep you updated. I chose to share this image as the letter writer is anonymous.

If I see anyone crying or complaining about Aubrey deactivating her account, I'm sending swat to your houses. Have some respect for her.

You say you're a fan? You certainly aren't if you're only crying about it being deactivated.

Your number one damn thought should be wishing her well, not making this about yourselves like so many of you are.

You're literally likely the reason she did. "Oh I was just-" I don't give a single fuck about what you were "just" doing. This isn't about you and your wants or anything like that.

She's not single. She is a widow. And she certainly isn't fucking interested in underage disrespectful kids.

Y'all hear "Please respect our privacy." And make a new sentence in your mind that is like "That's for other people. I'm the exception. I should message her." NO.

Joke told by David Sedaris at the show we saw on Monday night (minimal paraphrasing):

A mother is in the kitchen and her young son is playing with his train set in the adjacent room.

The son pulls the train car up to the little station and says:

"We have arrived at the station. If this is your stop, get off the fucking train. For those waiting for the train on the platform, get on the fucking train."

The mother steps into the room and says "You cannot swear like that. Go to your room."

The boy goes to his room. After two hours, the mother opens the door of his room and says you can come out of your room now if you promise not to use that word. And the boy sullenly nods his head.

He goes back to the train, runs it around the track and back to the station.

"We have arrived at the station. If this is your stop, please disembark the train. For those waiting for the train on the platform, please step onto the train."

"And for those passengers wondering about the two hour delay, please direct your questions to the cunt in the kitchen."
