Call Me By Your Name by Andre Acimen

I read it. I enjoyed some parts of it. I found Elio overly melodramatic in an uncomfortable way. Oliver just irritated me. It wasn't for me but I am glad I read it.

The Elite by Kiera Cass
4 Stars.
Tumblr media
Was it better than the first book? Yes. Was it worse than the first book? Also yes. Let me explain why. Elite has a much better pace than the first book, the conflict outside of Aspen and Maxon is actually engaging and the twists are actually quite compelling. I can see a bit more why people are so in love with this series. But here's the thing. I really don't like America that much. I find the melodrama deciding between the two boys very conflated. She loves both. But Aspen broke up with her because he got his man-baby feelings hurt that she spent some money to make him a meal. Like she thought he was going to propose so she did something nice and this child broke up with her because he has to be the big tough provider. Now she's apologizing to him?! Girl you need to go with the man who has proven over and over he will do what he can to make you happy, even at his own detriment. I'm going to read the next one, not sure about the companions. For now. It's done!

The Cellist Of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway
4 Stars.
Tumblr media
This book is based on the Seige of Sarajevo although it admittedly takes lots of liberties with the timeline. The book focuses on 3 separate people living in the midst of war and the Cellist who weaves in throughout their lives. The Cellist witnessed a bombing that killed 22 people waiting in a bread line at 4 pm, and he goes out to play for 22 days in that spot. The book had great emotional exploration as it weaved time and although the characters didn't ever meet. Their paths still crossed. A good read, especially if one likes historical settings!

The Most Precious of Cargoes by Jean-Claude Grumberg
Tumblr media
The author takes horrifying details and the stark and terrible reality of the holocaust and weaves a mournful tale into a tapestry. This was a sobering, amazing, beautiful read. Highly recommend.

The Hideaway Inn by Phillip William Stover
Tumblr media
It was a hallmark movie in book form but the author was entirely too obsessed with body hair, looking tough, and using gun metaphors for sex. It was physically painful to read. Run in the opposite direction of this book. I read it so you don't have to. This book should not be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.

This was such a great read! It had a lot of suspense to keep the pages turning but not so much as to give you anxiety. I love the diverse cast and the characterization was fantastic! It is first-person and switches between Louisa (the biracial main character) Ellen (the female volunteer for the RAF, Who couldn't fully enlist because of her Traveller heritage) and Jamie, the cocky fighter pilot trying to keep his men alive. A definite recommendation! YA Historical fiction.
