Is there a website to look up models or people  to draw, with gender, ethnicity, and age filters. (if possible)?

 For example if a wanted to make a cartoon character realistic and use a real person for reference or to edit the photo to look like them?

I’ve been just googling  white 20s male, black female 40s etc. (can’t find any good references for kids either)  and been sifting through the results.

Art Advice

Tumblr is a good place for art - be it fanart or original art. People draw people, characters, landscapes, animals etc. Next to DeviantArt I think Tumblr is one of the biggest places to find art work of all kinds, digital and hand drawn.

I’m going to share with you guys some basic tips. No I’m not going to show you how to draw or how to shade because I am an almost 16 year old girl who draws occasionally and barely knows how to do those things herself. However, I do have some tips I remembered from like 3 years of drawing stuff when I felt like it. 

Never compare your work to other people’s work (or a picture if you referenced it). This is NOT a good idea. However, it is helpful to compare your current work to your past work and see how far you’ve come. 

Don’t feel bad if one second you like your art but the longer you look at it the more you see the flaws. The fact that you see flaws or mistakes means your learning. Just something to do differently the next time you draw.

Don’t erase lines too early!! My art teacher taught me this and it is literally one of my favorite tips I’ve ever gotten. I tend to, now, draw a different line to see if I like that one better or not. 

There’s this blue pencil you can use. Basically you draw with that and it’s easy to erase and you build on it with a pencil later.

Do not push down too hard on your paper when you draw. Try to draw lightly when you’re just starting your picture. If you push too hard you’ll crush the fibers of the paper and it’ll be hard to erase later.

There is no “How To Draw” in my opinion anyway. Some people, when drawing a person, will draw a circle and draw those lines inside of it, kind of like a curved +. That might help if it works for you but it never has for me so I draw based off of the “lines” I can see. 

You don’t have to draw EVERY day to be an artist. Just like you don’t constantly have to read to be a bookworm. I hate these assumptions. I hardly draw once a month yet I consider myself an artist. And it’s okay if you don’t draw 24/7.
